(Y[PZ[Z»6WLU/V\ZL+\S^PJO-LZ[P]HSWelcome to Artists’ Open House 2013! I am particularly excited about this year’s Open House after such a long winter. Dulwich and its surrounding areas really do come alive during the Festival, and this year there are over 200 artists throwing open their doors to you during the two weekends of Open House. Once again, you can see and buy an incredible array of artworks by photographers, print makers, painters, jewellers, ceramicists and more. The diversity and quality of the work, seen in inspiring settings usually closed to the public, continues to amaze me.This year, as well as the artists and designers opening their houses and studios, some of the world’s most famous street artists are descending on the area to bring their own unique interpretations of the Dulwich Picture Gallery’s collection to the streets. And look out, too, for the Culture Cart, which will be making its way around the area.As ever, I would like to thank all the artists and hosts who have participated this year, without whose hard work Artists’ Open House would not be possible. I would also like to thank Ingrid Beazley, Lucy Bainbridge of Bainbridge Studios, David Arkell at The Colourhouse, and Steve Smith, of Property In.com our main sponsor and provider of the distinctive signposts outside the artists’ houses, for their continued support.I hope you enjoy this year’s Artists’ Open House.

Colombian-born Dairo Vargas’ passion for art began at an early age. Dairo delights in [OLZ\I[SLJOHUNLZVM[OLZR ̀ZWLJPÄJHSS`P[Zephemeral, almost spiritual quality combined with the evocativeness of light. Each piece aims to instill a sense of awe and tranquility and is inspired both by the south coast of England and his memories of childhood in rural Colombia.www.dairovargas.com
