Ryan Lammieand Alisha WormsleyHereaf terRyan Lammie Found objects, industrial materials and domestic waste are the source material for my multidimensional, monochromatic, light-driven work. I gravitate toward objects I feel a certain sympathy for. Objects that have served their purpose or exist in stark contrast to the outcome of their function. The slip cast mold, for example, reveals an intriguing discrepancy between its rough and seemingly careless exterior surface and the objects it produces. I am drawn to forms made purely for utility and see a grotesque beauty in the objects I utilize to create these sculptural paintings. My primary concern when making work isn’t with image, but rather, energy. It’s about the state of things coming together and falling apart. Many of the paintings are made as part of a cluster, but aren’t meant to remain there. I see spirituality as personal and feel a responsibility to shape new objects that reflect that. I select objects I feel close to, creating shrines from collections of objects I believe have similar qualities and relationships to other “holy” or spiritual” objects. Items are selected with intention and often for the questions they raise in the viewer. What does a trophy signify once it is separated from the person for whom it serves as a reminder of past victories? Alisha Wormsley I am an interdisciplinary artist. My work is about collective memory and the synchronicity of time periods. I recognize past, present and future happenings simultaneously. I use photography, video, sculpture and sound to deconstruct accepted realities in order to recreate new conceptual mythologies. By layering methods of science fiction, collage theory and folklore, I reconstruct stories, examining themes of gender, class, race and time.I am interested in the human experience. I work to tear down boundaries of forgetfulness. To encourage us to remember one beginning and one end. I examine the connections between these two points. The connections I discover inspire an infusion of both cross-cultural phenomena and popular culture, new fables and new science fictions. Within those discoveries, I create other realities, magnifying the lens to look closely at the intentions.
