Shifting gears a little bit, your next stop is the UNESCO World Heritage Center of Mantua and Sabbioneta, offering two outstanding examples of Renaissance town planning. Guided visits in these beautiful towns offer you a wonderful educational opportunity to learn about the urban, architectural, and artistic realizations of the Renaissance as manifested through building technology, functional systems, and monumental art.

Next you’ll make a stop in the lovely town of Sirmione on Garda Lake for a wine tasting on your way to Verona, discovering this elegant and richly historic city on a walking tour. From there you will visit Vicenza, known worldwide as the “Palladio City,” the city where the famous architect realized the style that would alter the history of European architecture, before boarding your water taxi to your hotel in Venice.

Your first night in one of the most unique cities on earth will begin with a street food tour, visiting three small bacari to taste the local wines and sample some cicchetti, or Venetian tapas. You continue the next day with a walking tour of “unusual” Venice in the morning, and a “classic” tour of Venice after lunch, ending with a farewell dinner in a typical Venetian osteria.

sept 24 Depart U.S. for Italy

sept 25 MILAN Arrive in Milan and view one of the world’s most recognizable paintings: Leonardo Da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.”

sept 26 MILAN Today you’ll see the “Rondanini Pieta” by Michelangelo, visit the stupendous collection of the Brera Art Gallery, and explore atmospheric “old” Milan in the Navigli district.

sept 27 TURIN Departing Milan you arrive for a day on breathtakingly beautiful Lake Maggiore, boating to the islands of Madre, Bella, and dei Pescatori, to visit the palaces, stroll through the luxurious gardens, and sample the seafood.sept 28 TURIN Take a sightseeing tour of historic Turin, including the Balon Market, Piazza Castello, and the Duomo; then in the early evening you’ll set out on a local food tour!

sept 29 ALBA An hour outside of Turin lies the ancient abbey of Sacra di San Michele, and then you’re off to stroll the beautifully preserved medieval squares of Alba.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Everyone is welcome to join us! We ask you to please understand that, as with any good travel experience, walking will be necessary to properly experience the variety of activities on our route. Bear in mind that ancient streets are cobbled and narrow, medieval buildings have medieval stairs, vineyards may have uneven ground, cheese makers may have wet floors, etc. Private transportation is provided for all transfers and you will be staying in very comfortable hotels throughout this journey, but we will definitely spend time on our feet.

COST The price of this is trip is $9,499 based upon double occupancy. This includes roundtrip international airfare, all transportation, lodging, entrance fees, guides, tours, food and wine tastings, and university staff services.
