THE FEELING OF MOVEMENT

I COLLECTED PIECES FROM THE LOUVRE MUSEUM IN PARIS, FRANCE.

I CHOSE PIECES THAT WILL HAVE MOVEMENT; EITHER FROM THE BODY LANGUAGE OF THE SUBJECTS OR THE STORY THAT THE ARTIST WAS TELLING.

THERE ARE A VARIETY OF TYPES OF ART INCLUDING; PAINTINGS, SCULPTURES, PRINTS, SMALLER TRINKETS.

I WOULD ARRANGE THESE PIECES IN A LARGER PORTION/SECTION OF THE GALLERYH NOT ONLY BECAUSE SOME ARE LARGER IN SCALE BUT TO ALSO HAVE THE VIEWERS MOVE FROM PIECE TO PIECE TO FURTHER PUSH THE ASPECT OF MOVEMENT. I WOULD HOPE THAT THE VIWERS AND PATRONS WILL FEEL THAT ONCE THEY WALKED THROUGH MY EXHIBIT.

I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY THE PIECES I HAVE CHOSEN; BECAUSE I LOVED WORKING ON THIS PROJECT!

Romulus and Remus Given Shelter by Faustulus

BY: Pietro BERRETTINI

This piece is heart breaking. It shows Faustulus; carrying the baby, reaching back because his twin brother is still back on the Tiber River. If you focus on Faustulus’ left arm; it indicates that he is in need to go back and being back the other baby. This piece is a story being told.

Spoon in the Form of a Young Girl Carrying a Vase

This piece was carved from one strip of wood and is in excellent condition. It is of a servant girl carrying a large jar; which has a pivot in which you can move the cover. So not only is it accurate in terms of the use in todays age, but it shows that the artist put a great deal of thought into what the subject was doing at that time. This is because the subject is carrying a jar which could have been filled and taken back to her home.Even though the subject is smiling; it seems that her knees are bent and back hunched over showing her struggle to carrying the jar and bag back home.

Scene in the Nile marshes

This scene shows the flight of birds. In many 18th century dynasties; pieces like this would show the owner hunting. There are two ways that I believe represent movement. One being that you notice the flight that the birds are taking. The other would be that of the story. The birds are flying away because there is a mongoose and a genet disturbing their nest below. Not only is there a story behind this; it also depicts what the land looked like back then; therefore giving a sense of being in that time period.

Bottle decorated with figures of female dancers

This here is a gold and silver bottle which has been decorated with female dancers. This was made in the Sassanid era; which notes that this type of work is typical. These dancers are wearing a close-fitting tunic; which allows someone to see the movement in their bodies when they were dancing. These types of metal work were used on the tables of grand feasts; either celebratory or religious. If you look closely there may have been a burst of wind, in which allowed the bottom of the tunic to lift up, showing movement within the piece.

Fame

BY: Pierre Biard

This sculpture is of a fame blowing a trumpet. This one in specific was used for the funeral monument of Jean-Louis de la Vallette, duke of Epernon and governor of Gascony.

This piece is not only symbolic due to the fact of its purpose but shows a great deal of movement.

Implied motion is used in this sculpture. This is because it is not stopped in time but shows that at the time movement was in progress.
