MANCORBO CANAL IN PICOS DE EUROPA

By: Carlos de HaesDate: 1876Medium: Oil on canvasDimensions: 168 cm x 123 cm

In this painting you can see light, value, and color. In the left bottom corner, it is dark, and there is

visible shades of black. It is lighter in the upward side of the painting where there is tints of white. On the right side local color changes the hues of the painting. You can see the color green which is

considered to be a cool color and small amounts of a yellow-orange color which are considered to be warm colors, along with a light brown that depicts to be rock figures. The background which is lighter

in color has curvilinear lines forming the mountains which gives it a rocky texture.

LANDSCAPE WITH THE EMBARKMENT OF SAINT PAULA ROMANA IN OSTIA

This painting has emphasis, movement, scale, and style. The emphasis of the painting is the rays of the sun that are lighting through middle of the river, where people are visible. Movement is visible in the position of the people on the boats and the three people on the right lower corner who seem to be walking to the left side of the painting. The tall buildings depict how big in scale they are, comparing to how small the people are. Style can be visible with the designs used in the architecture of the buildings, the design of the ships and the clothing of the people.

ALLEGORY OF FRANCESCO I OF MEDICI

This sculpture is a very good example of balance. It is visible to see balance by the way that the people are leaning to a side, the slight bending of the legs, and the arching of their torso, as well as the position of the arms. The detailed curved and straight lines form the shape and texture of the people, trees, and architecture. Implied movement is visible with the cupid on the upper right corner moving in a diagonal line from right to left, downward.

THE LADIES’ TOWER AT THE ALHAMBRA

In this painting I found it interesting, how scale is depicted. The children on the bottom of the painting are depicted to be small, compare to the tall trees and the buildings. The focal point on this painting that caught my interest was the children on the bottom of the painting. Implied mass is also visible in the depiction of the big buildings on the painting. The buildings also have geometric shapes that appear to be rectangular.

THE MEDICI GARDENS IN ROME

This painting is a good example of imbalance. The man who seems to have an object on his right hand on the left side corner seems to be approaching the man standing on the right side. The man on the far left side arouses an intriguing feeling to the panting. The curvilinear and rectangular lines on the architecture adds emphasis to the painting. By: Diego Velazquez

WHY I SELECTED THESE PIECES OF ART WORK

I selected these pieces of art work based on the theme of landscape. I was able to see on these paintings and sculpture trees, rivers, mountains, the sky and different times of the day, with the light of the sun. I found it interesting, how artists can make their art work beautiful with some type of depiction of nature, when nature is already a natural art itself.

My exhibition “The Collection of Landscape Art” will be arranged in the following order: the painting, “Mancorbo Canal In Picos De Europa” will be hanged on the wall to the lower left side corner near the entrance. Next to that, the painting, “Landscape with the Embarkment of Saint Paula Romana in Ostia” will be hanged on the same wall. On the right side wall, the sculpture, “ Allegory of Francesco I of Medici” will be hanged. On the back wall the painting, “The Ladies’ Tower at the Alhambra” will be hanged up and the painting, “The Medici Gardens in Rome” will be hanged on the same wall but to the closer to the left corner. On the following slide you will be able to view the setting of the gallery.
