The origin of the brand is reached in year 1882, when Scandinavian businessman Arnold Sørensen founded a company in Riga and named it in his own name. The enterprise started a production of metal cans and canned food. After the First World War a flying seagull with a fish in its beak became a trade mark of the company and KAIJA (translates in Latvian as seagull) became a brand of the company.

Although the name of the brand Arnold Sørensen is closer to Scandinavian traditions and product concept, it carries the ancient history and origin of the company. The factory built and developed by Arnold Sørensen brought a huge investments not only in the 19th -20th century, but does it till nowadays, allowing its posterity – KAIJA and Karavela Ltd provide workplaces for many people as well as contribute a huge investment in the national economics and Latvian fish processing industry.

WILDSALMON

Wild salmon or Pink salmon is a cold water fish caught in Alaskan waters. The salmon has lived in natural conditions, caught in the right period of the life cycle, keeping the sustainability of the species and frozen in right conditions to keep all the best characteristics for the further processing.

When a whole, frozen fish is received it is time to prepare it for a delicious canned product. In order to make the product characteristics even better, the salmon in our factory is filleted by hand, which keeps the beautiful structure and texture of the fish, when compared to the mechanical method, where the fish fillets are frozen in blocks and are cut in portions mechanically. This makes our fillets friendly to your taste experience!
