L’Hospitale dei pellegrini SS. Pietro e Paolo ha operato fra il 1342 e il 1770, con il compito di curare gli infermi e di accogliere i pellegrini diretti a Roma o Gerusalemme. Fu costruito sui resti di una necropoli romana del 140 d.C. con due fabbricati con corti interne che racchiudevano la chiesa. Le pareti erano interamente affrescate, il portale fu aggiunto nel 1598 quando la via imperiale Romana fu trasformata per accogliere il corteo nuziale di Margherita d’Austria in viaggio verso lo sposo imperatore Filippo III di Spagna. La proprietà dell’edificio è sempre stata di famiglie milanesi che si sono alternate nei secoli.Oggi i pellegrini non si fermano più qui, ma noi desideriamo che questo luogo torni ad essere una tappa per viaggiatori e sognatori, dove giovani talenti possano avere una occasione di visibilità prima delle sfide che li attendono nel mondo.

From 1342 to 1770, Hospitale dei Pellegrini S.S. Pietro e Paolo cared for the sick and gave shelter to those on pilgrimage to Rome or Jerusalem. It was erected on top of the ruins of a Roman necropolis which dated back to 140 A.D., and was made up of two buildings with interior courtyards which surrounded the church. The walls were covered entirely with frescoes, and the portal was added in 1598 when the Roman imperial road was transformed to accommodate the bridal procession of Margaret of Austria, who was travelling to meet her groom, King Philip III of Spain. The site has remained the property of one Milanese family or another throughout the centuries.Today, it is no longer a shelter for pilgrimages, but it is our hope that it will once again be a meeting place for travellers and dreamers, a place where young talents can have a chance to make a name for themselves before facing the challenges that await them around the world.

FASHION INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGy IN MILAN

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is an internationally recognized college of design, fashion, art, communication and business. Part of the State University of New York system, FIT offers more than 40 programs of study leading to the Associate in Applied Science, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, and Master of Professional Studies degrees. FIT prepares students for professional excellence by providing a premier educational experience fostering creativity, career focus, and a global perspective through the exceptional international study-abroad opportunities such as the FIT in Milan program with the Politecnico di Milano.

FIT and the Politecnico di Milano began a collaborative agreement in 2007. FIT’s International Fashion Design program in Milan is a study-abroad opportunity for design students who wish to gain a global perspective and experience. FIT students reside in Milan for one, or two years, studying integrated courses of the Politecnico di Milano. Academic activities off campus include visits to industry tradeshows, production sites, museums, exhibitions and design studios. Regional visits provide an introduction to Italy’s history, artisan skills, and technical expertise. As part of the exchange agreement, a select group of Politecnico di Milano students attend courses at the FIT campus in New York. They participate in a capstone exhibition displaying garments and portfolios.

Armonie. This event exhibits the BFA collections by five senior students. The work is a culmination of a 4 year combined study in New York and Milan. The final collections express the student’s own individual statement and philosophy. The students worked closely with design faculty and an industry critic, formulating concepts, then realizing a small collection. All garments were patterned and sewn by the students. They also designed printed textiles in the Politecnico studios in Como. The event was then set to music performed by the talented students of the Milan’s “G. Verdi” Conservatory.

Il Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) è un’Università di design, moda, arte, comunicazione e commercio di fama internazionale. Fa parte delle Università statali di New York ed offre più di 40 corsi di studio per i titoli di “Associate in Applied Science”, “Bachelor of Fine Arts”, “Bachelor of Science”, “Master of Arts”, e “Master of Professional Studies”. FIT ed il Politecnico di Milano hanno iniziato la propria collaborazione nel 2007. Il programma Internazionale di Design della Moda del FIT a Milano costituisce un’opportunità per quegli studenti che vogliono vivere un’esperienza internazionale. Gli studenti FIT trascorrono uno o due anni a Milano, frequentando dei corsi integrati ai programmi del Politecnico di Milano e partecipano, inoltre, ad attività fuori sede, quali visite a fiere di settore, aziende di produzione, musei, mostre e studi di design. Le visite locali introducono così alla storia, alle abilità artigianali, alle competenze tecniche tipiche italiane. Come parte del progetto di scambio, un gruppo di studenti del Politecnico di Milano viene selezionato per frequentare dei corsi del FIT a New York e partecipa ad una mostra finale coi i propri abiti e disegni.

Armonie. Questo evento mostra le collezioni di cinque laureande del BFA, il culmine di quattro anni di studio trascorsi tra New York e Milano. Le collezioni finali esprimono l’individualità e la filosofia propria di ognuno di loro. Con la guida dei loro insegnanti e di un critico proveniente dall’industria della moda, le studentesse hanno elaborato un concept e disegnato una piccola collezione di cui loro stesse hanno curato l’intera realizzazione, dal cartamodello alla confezione dei capi cuciti personalmente. Anche i disegni di alcuni tessuti sono stati ideati e stampati dalle studentesse presso i laboratori del Politecnico a Como. L’evento è stato quindi messo in musica, con l’esecuzione dal vivo dei giovani talenti del Conservatorio “G. Verdi” di Milano.

“GIUSEppE vERDI” MILAN CONSERvATORy

Established in 1807 by Eugène de Beauharnais, viceroy of Italy, by way of Napoleonic royal decree, Milan’s “G. Verdi” Conservatory has a history that spans more than two centuries. Indeed, the conservatory was first inaugurated on September 3, 1808, and it has remained in the former convent along side the Church of Santa Maria della Passione since that date. To this day, the conservatory continues to be one of the most prestigious places to study music both in Italy and throughout the world.As an active, integral member of the Italian System of Higher Education in Music and the Arts under the Ministry of Education and Research, the Milan conservatory has some 1,500 students, over 250 teachers, and a wide variety of bachelor and master-level study programs.In fact, the Verdi Conservatory is not merely “a school”, but is a place where music becomes a profession, where young talents are given the opportunity to test themselves against their classmates and in the eyes of the public.The Conservatory offers the full range of services and is able to provide the people of Milan with a wide range of events every year, which represent the fruits of the daily labor of both the instructors and their students.

Students hoping to make a career out of music have simply to choose which study program to follow, as the Conservatory has a wealth of programs and ideas for all. In total, there are thirteen departments, each of which offers a variety of study programs that can be personalized to meet the needs, expectations and aspirations of each individual student. Beginning with the 2009-2010 academic year, the “G. Verdi” Conservatory now also offers a teaching degree in musicology, which is the first of its kind in Italy. Each year, thanks to the efforts of true “patrons of music” (foundations and other music-related organizations and individual music lovers), the “G. Verdi” Conservatory also grants a prestigious series of awards and scholarships for its most talented students.

IL CONSERvATORIO DI MUSICA“GIUSEppE vERDI” DI MILANO

Istituito con Regio Decreto Napoleonico nel 1807 da Eugène de Beauharnais, Vicere d’Italia, il Conservatorio di Musica “G. Verdi” di Milano vanta una storia più che bicentenaria. L’inaugurazione risale infatti al 3 settembre 1808. Da allora il Conservatorio ha sede nello storico ex convento accanto alla Chiesa di Santa Maria della Passione. E da allora il Conservatorio milanese continua ad essere una delle più importanti istituzioni per lo studio della musica, affermato a livello nazionale ed internazionale.Parte integrante ed attiva del Sistema Universitario di Alta Formazione Artistica e Musicale, che fa capo al Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca, il Conservatorio di Milano conta circa 1.500 studenti, più di 250 docenti, numerosi percorsi di studio tra I e II livello.In realtà il Verdi di Milano non è soltanto “una scuola”, ma è il luogo in cui la musica diventa una professione, il luogo in cui i giovani allievi sono chiamati a scendere in campo, a confrontarsi con i compagni e con il pubblico.Il Conservatorio di Milano è infatti un ente di produzione a 360°, capace di proporre al pubblico cittadino una serie ampia di eventi, che sono il frutto della sua vita quotidiana, del lavoro che lungo ogni anno svolgono insieme docenti ed allievi.

Lo studente che voglia fare della musica la propria professione non deve quindi che scegliere quale percorso formativo seguire. Il piano dell’offerta formativa è, nel caso del Conservatorio di Milano, assolutamente ricco di spunti per tutti. Sono tredici i Dipartimenti, cui fanno capo differenti percorsi di studio, passibili di essere personalizzati in base alle esigenze dell’allievo, alle sue aspettative, alle sue aspirazioni future. Dall’anno accademico 2009-2010 il Conservatorio di Musica “G. Verdi” di Milano e l’Università degli Studi di Milano hanno altresì dato vita al Corso di laurea magistrale in Musicologia, primo esempio del genere in Italia. Grazie all’intervento di veri e propri “mecenati della musica” (privati, fondazioni, enti di produzione musicale) il Conservatorio di Musica “G. Verdi” di Milano vede inoltre ogni anno l’assegnazione di un’importante serie di premi e borse di studio destinati ai propri allievi più talentuosi.

FIT MILAN BFA COLLECTIONS IN COLLABORATION wITH CITTADELLARTE /FONDAzIONE pISTOLETTO

In October 2011 the FIT Milan students were deeply inspired while visiting the Biella Region and the Cittadellarte. The visit focused on the history, craft, quality and the latest sustainable aspects of textiles coming from this region. After the visit, the students expressed desire to utilize these textiles and to inject a “sustainable approach” to their collections. Graciously, the companies of B.E.S.T. generously donated the majority of fabrics used in the collections. We are extremely grateful to both Maestro Pistoletto for his support and Ms. Olga Pirazzi who worked closely with the students, connecting them with the companies.

Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T. is an operative workshop dedicated to the development of sustainable bio-ethics in the textile sector since 2009. Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T.’s laboratory is centred around three basic elements: the world renowned heritage of productive excellence layered on the Biellese territory, the artistic creativity, an essential part of Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto, and the commitment for a responsible and sustainable transformation of society. Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T. gathers dozens of companies producing textiles, yarns and eco-sustainable accessories. Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T., together with young fashion stylists selected in collaboration with Franca Sozzani (Vogue Italia’s editor), designs collections based on this philosophy, holds meetings and events to sensitize society towards a sustainable consumption, takes part in international work groups and organizes seminars and formative sessions. Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T. proposes eco-sustainable textile materials and products in a showroom always open to the public and promotes public initiatives aimed at sensitizing society towards a sustainable consumption. Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto is a contemporary art foundation located in Biella, its mission is to produce and inspire a responsible transformation of society through ideas and creative projects.

Nell’ottobre 2011, le studentesse del FIT Milano sono rimaste profondamente colpite dalla visita della zona di Biella e di Cittadellarte, scoprendone la storia, l’artigianalità, la qualità e le recenti attenzioni alla sostenibilità dei tessuti. Ispirate da questa visita, le studentesse hanno espresso il desiderio di utilizzare i tessuti provenienti da questo distretto e di introdurre un “approccio eco-sostenibile” alle proprie collezioni. Gentilmente, le società riunite nella piattaforma B.E.S.T. hanno generosamente donato la maggior parte dei materiali utilizzati per gli abiti. Siamo estremamente grati al Maestro Pistoletto per il suo sostegno e ad Olga Pirazzi per il suo prezioso lavoro di relazione tra le studentesse e le imprese coinvolte.

Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T. è un’officina operativa che dal 2009 si dedica allo sviluppo della sostenibilità bio-etica nell’ambito del settore tessile. Il laboratorio Cittadellarte Fashion B.E.S.T. è incentrato su tre elementi costitutivi: il patrimonio di eccellenza produttiva sedimentato sul territorio biellese e riconosciuto nel mondo, la creatività artistica, componente essenziale di Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto, e l’mpegno per un cambiamento della società in senso responsabile e sostenibile. Meghan Mc Guffin COyLE TwIST

Meghan McGuffin è cresciuta giocando con la terra, partecipando a gare di danze irlandesi e praticando ogni sport possibile, ma la sua vera passione è emersa quando ha iniziato a cucire. Meghan ha scelto l’abbigliamento per bambini poiché: “A volte, quando sono con loro, mi sento ancora una bimba e mi piace l’audacia e la libertà con cui scelgono e mescolano i vestiti. Voglio creare abiti che li facciano sentire come se possedessero il mondo. Più si sentono a loro agio, più riescono a realizzarsi, poiché la sicurezza di sé non vede il lato negativo che può inibire”.

Meghan grew up playing in the mud, performing and competing Irish dancing and playing almost every sport imaginable, but her true passion emerged when she began to sew in high school. She chose the Children’s Wear specialization, as she says “Sometimes, I feel like a kid when I am with them, and I love the freedom and confidence they have in mixing and matching different garments. I want to create clothes that make them feel like they own this world. The better they feel, the more they can achieve, because confidence does not see the negative which can stop you”.

MEGHAN MC GUFFIN Coyle Twist

“Coyle Twist” si ispira alle danze, agli abiti e alla cultura Irlandese. In questa collezione per bambini si trovano volumi creati da ampie pieghe, ricami di evocazione celtica e pesanti maglie tipiche della tradizione locale. I colori tenui e naturali sono quelli propri della campagna Irlandese. Per mantenere questa percezione di natura nella collezione sono state utilizzate tinture organiche e fibre naturali. Meghan afferma: “Credo che gli elementi naturali ed organici facciano emergere la nostra naturale bellezza”.

Coyle Twist is inspired from Irish dancing, dresses and the Irish culture. Within this collection targeted for kids one will find volumes created from deep pleats and panels, Celtic inspired embroidery, and heavy knitwear by the traditional Irish sweaters. Natural muted tones are the base of the color story which can be found through Ireland. To keep the natural feeling throughout the collection, organic dyes and natural fibers are used. Meghan says: “I believe natural and organic elements bring out our natural and beautiful selves”.

Corneliu Babira, di origine moldava, dal 2007 studia violino presso il Conservatorio di Musica “G. Verdi” di Milano sotto la guida del Maestro Manuel Meo.George Bogdan Butusina, di origini romene, è vincitore del premio Forziati 2011, concorso indetto dal Conservatorio di Musica “G. Verdi” di Milano, dove studia violino come allievo del Maestro Daniele Gay. Il suo indiscusso talento gli ha permesso di essere accolto fra gli allievi del Maestro Salvatore Accardo.Il percorso di studi classici non allontana il duo dagli altri orizzonti musicali: dalla musica da camera, a quella di tradizione popolare, in una continua ricerca di sperimentazione e contaminazione non solo di generi ma anche fra le diverse arti.

Corneliu Babira, Moldavian, has been studying violin at Milan’s “G. Verdi” Conservatory since 2007, under the guidance of Maestro Manuel Meo.George Bogdan Butusina, Romanian, was awarded the 2011 Forziati Award, a competition held by the “G. Verdi” Conservatory, where he studies violin under Maestro Daniele Gay. His remarkable talent has also enabled him to become a student of Maestro Salvatore Accardo.The classical studies of this duo have not limited their musical repertoire, which ranges from chamber music to folk music in a constant journey of experimentation and cross-contamination, not only of genres, but also of the arts themselves.

Jolie Mittleman THE pROGRESSION OF INNOCENCE

Ecco Jolie Loren Mittleman, nata, ventidue anni e mezzo fa a Miami, Florida, Stati Uniti d’America, nuda e nuova, con un sol ricciolo piantato nel mezzo di una soffice testolina di bimba. Chi avrebbe mai pensato che quell’unico, primo riccio sarebbe esploso in migliaia e che ora, proprio lei, si sarebbe trovata quasi dall’altra parte del mondo, a Milano, in Italia, pronta a condividere le proprie idee, pensieri e creazioni, a voce alta e di fronte ad un pubblico.

This is Jolie Loren Mittleman, born twenty two-and-a-half years ago in Miami, Florida, USA, naked and new with just one curly-cue, sprung out in the middle of a fuzzy, infantile head. Who would have thought that that one curly-cue would sprawl out into thousands, and that right now, she would be half-way around the world, in Milan, Italy, ready to share her ideas, her thoughts and her creations out-loud and in public.

“The Progression of Innocence: An Illustrated Chronicle of Life thru Time” is an evolutionary reflection on innocence. It is a tangible narrative of time. It is a study, perhaps even an hypothesis, on the unfolding pages and always changing stages of a life throughout. Constantly turning, ever-evolving, at the very speed of time itself, there can be found a perpetual thread of underlying innocence, both contracting and growing, traveling with us till the end of our time here on Earth and who knows, perhaps even into infinity.

“The Progression of Innocence: An Illustrated Chronicle of Life thru Time” è una riflessione evolutiva sull’innocenza. È una narrativa tangibile del tempo. È uno studio, forse un’ipotesi, sulle pagine non lette e gli stadi sempre mutevoli della vita nel suo svolgersi. Un ciclo costante, una continua evoluzione, alla velocità del tempo stesso, ove si può trovare un filo perpetuo di sottesa innocenza che, nel suo contrarsi ed espandersi, viaggia con noi fino alla fine del nostro tempo qui sulla Terra e, chissà, forse, persino all’infinito.

Luciana grimaldiBLACk TIE OpTIONAL

Kellie Lamkin disegna con il nome “Luciana Grimaldi”. Dice di aver scelto la moda perché le permette di essere creativa e attenta agli affari nello stesso tempo. Disegna per una donna molto simile a lei, una sorte di camaleonte che sa adattarsi a diversi strati sociali. È una signora che apprezza un servizio d’argento e il ritmo della cultura hip-hop. Con queste premesse, mentre crea una collezione, cerca di mescolare questi due mondi, con un nuovo metodo che ha soprannominato “classico con tocco urbano”.

Kellie Lamkin is designing under the name Luciana Grimaldi. She chose fashion because it allows her to be creative and business minded in the same token. She designs for a woman much like herself, a sort of chameleon that is familiar with many walks of life. She is a lady who appreciates a sterling silver set table and the beat of hip-hop culture. Stating that while creating a collection she strives to blend these two worlds together into a fresh method that she has dubbed as being “classic with an urban twist”.

Her current collection entitled “A World Without Inhibitions” is based on the introduction of a forward thinking scuba diver to the Golden Age of Couture in a ‘Member’s Only’ life, where black tie is optional. The main premise is juxtaposition. The sporty style lines of a technical wetsuit are mapped into the elegant silhouettes of the 1950’s, with pops of neon and exaggerated details. The garments are constructed with unusual combinations of textiles such as: neoprene and silk organza, enhanced by eclectic prints and woolen tweeds.

LUCIANA GRIMALDI

La sua attuale collezione, dal titolo “Un mondo senza inibizioni”, si basa sull’introdurre un subacqueo progressista nell’età dell’oro dell’alta moda, in una vita “per soli soci”, dove l’abito da sera è una libera scelta. La premessa principale è giustapposizione. Le linee sportive dell’abbigliamento tecnico subacqueo sono inserite in un’elegante silhouette anni ’50, con inserti al neon e dettagli esagerati. Gli abiti sono costruiti con insolite combinazioni tessili quali: neoprene e organza di seta, enfatizzati da stampe eclettiche e tweed di lana.

Jacqueline Ramis CRUNCH

Jackii crede che le piccole meraviglie della vita siano davvero affascinanti, traendo ispirazione da ogni dove. Le idee frullano in continuazione nella sua mente, per poi perdere il controllo. La moda soddisfa il suo bisogno di esprimersi attraverso qualcosa di concreto e tangibile; non potrebbe mai annoiarsi con le migliaia di possibilità che questa forma d’arte offre. Jackii sperimenta nuove tecniche e ricerca materiali innovativi per trovare un punto di incontro tra il mondo dell’arte e quello della moda. Non vuole essere un’artista o una designer, ma essere entrambi. La sua collezione, “Crunch”, è ispirata agli insetti. Tutto comincia con una ragazza rinchiusa in una corazza; la vediamo trasformarsi lentamente in una creatura alata e piena di colori, acquisendo bellezza, grazia e vulnerabilità. “Crunch” è una collezione attenta all’ambiente, che utilizza tessuti sostenibili, per suggerirci che “eco-friendly” può anche significare lusso. Jackii afferma: “Credo fermamente che ognuno di noi debba fare la propria parte per preservare il pianeta, tutto ciò che occorre è un passo nella giusta direzione”.

Jackii feels the small wonders of life are truly fascinating, finding inspiration everywhere. Ideas constantly fly through her mind coasting, then spinning out of control. Fashion fulfills her need to express herself through something tactile, never boring, with millions of possibilities within this single genre of art. She is constantly experimenting and investigating new materials and techniques to find a medium somewhere in between the fashion and art worlds. She doesn’t want to be an artist or a designer, but both. Her latest collection, “Crunch”, is inspired by insects. Beginning with a girl encased in a hard shell, we watch her slowly progress into a colorful, soft winged creature, gaining beauty, grace and vulnerability. “Crunch” is an environmentally aware collection, using sustainable fabrics, to maintain the idea that “eco-friendly” can mean luxury goods. Jackii states “I truly believe that we need to do our part to preserve the planet, all it takes is one step in the right direction.”

JACqUELINE RAMIS Crunch

The amalgam of a post-rock temperament, jazz harmonies and ethereal soundscapes results in a sort of musical freedom that defies all labels. Criticized by jazz purists and appreciated by lovers of their contaminated sound, they play their music before a wide range of different audiences. MU is a jazz quartet that includes Davide Merlino on the vibes, Dario Trapani on electric guitar, Simone Prando on electric bass and Riccardo Chiaberta on drums.

On their first self-produced album in 2009, MU was a vibes trio leaning towards experimental jazz making their first appearance on the Italian scene, working with loops, live electronics and lots of improvisation. In 2010, their second album, Il Qui e L’Ora, continued in the same vein, but with a more mature, acoustic sound thanks to the contribution of Guido Bombardieri, a visionary musician featured on a number of tracks playing the alto sax and bass clarinet. The band was definitively enlarged the following year, with the vibes being joined by the guitar. This new formation of the band added a great deal of color to their compositions and arrangements, and their music took on a new life of its own. Working through the winter, they then released their third album, Sensilenti, under the ABeat for Jazz label. MU’s latest experiment, an EP of unusually electronic, non-instrumental cover versions, is to be released free of charge by Lucky Beard Rec on December 2011.Over the years, their music has swept Italy and abroad and has been played on national TV and radio stations, achieving recognitions such as winning the 2010 edition of Percfest, Italy’s most prestigious competition for drummers and percussionists.

L’amalgama fra un’ indole post rock, armonie jazz e paesaggi sonori eterei generano una libertà musicale difficile da etichettare. Criticati dai puristi del jazz e apprezzati dai seguaci del suono contaminato, riempiono le orecchie di audience completamente diverse fra loro. Il quartetto jazz MU è composto da: Davide Merlino al vibrafono, Dario Trapani alla chitarra elettrica, Simone Prando al basso elettrico e Riccardo Chiaberta alla batteria.

All’interno del primo disco autoprodotto nel 2009, MU era un vibes trio orientato verso il jazz sperimentale che muoveva i primi passi nella scena italiana, lavorando con loop, elettronica e improvvisazione. Nel 2010, “Il Qui e L’Ora”, secondo lavoro, prosegue sullo stile del primo con un suono più acustico e maturo, grazie anche alla collaborazione di Guido Bombardieri, visionario protagonista di alcune tracce al sax alto e al clarinetto basso. La famiglia si allarga definitivamente l’anno successivo, e il vibrafono viene affiancato dalla chitarra. Con questa formazione si moltiplicano le possibilità timbriche nelle composizioni e negli arrangiamenti e la musica inizia spontaneamente a cambiare. Dopo un inverno di lavoro esce il terzo album, “Sensilenti”, edito da ABeat for jazz. L’ultimo esperimento MU è invece un EP di cover insolitamente elettronico e non-strumentale rilasciato online grautitamente da Lucky Beard Rec a dicembre 2011.Durante gli ultimi anni, la loro musica ha raggiunto Italia e estero, è stata trasmessa da radio e TV nazionali e ha vinto il più importante concorso di percussionisti e batteristi in Italia, il Percfest 2010.

Scarsamente vestito, il corpo dipinto avvolto in drappeggi vagamente rustici, lo yogi Sadhu dell’India abbandona la vita offuscata dal materialismo e dalle norme sociali per intraprendere un viaggio spirituale verso l’illuminazione. L’estetica di questa collezione è sottolineata dalla giustapposizione di numerosi elementi di design che provengono dalla cultura indiana, mantenendo un’attinenza alla morfologia umana. Le silhouette contrastanti, gli abbinamenti di tessuto e la sfumatura del colore raffigurano un percorso che, iniziato scuro e strutturato, va, via via, decostruendosi per arrivare all’illuminazione. L’origine giapponese-americana di Mariko e i viaggi da lei intrapresi hanno modellato la sua visione e la sua sensibilità di designer, unica e originale, che unisce in un tutto armonico solide competenze tecniche e un’acuta concettualità.

Sparsely dressed, their painted bodies draped loosely in rustic cloth, the Sadhus yogis of India abandon a life clouded by materialism and societal norms to embark on a journey towards spiritual enlightenment. The aesthetics of this collection are fostered by many juxtaposing design elements extracted from the Indian culture while also retaining an affinity for the human form. The contrasting silhouettes, fabric combinations and degradation of color depict a journey that begins dark and structural; however, progressively deconstructs into pure enlightenment. Mariko’s mixed Japanese American background and travels have shaped her diverse outlook and unique design sensibility that is rooted in strong technical skills harmonized by an edgy conceptuality.
