Are women safe in our country????
Is every women born in our country an
object for the pleasures of man? Is she born to be
harassed and humiliated and just be thrown into the
waste bin? Is there no value for the pain and hardships
that she suffers during her lifetime? India is a country
with a patriarchal society, where the crimes against
women are increasing day by day. There is no safety for
women in such a society. Equal rights are provided for
both men and women by the constitution of our country.
Yet women are not granted any of her basic necessities or
rights. Men consider her only as an object to do all the
chores- looking after the children, washing, cleaning,
cooking etc. They not even consider her as a human
being. They forget the fact that she is also made of flesh
and blood, who has all the feelings like any other human
being. If at all she expresses her sorrow or her miseries,
the patriarchal society calls her a feminist. She is not
claiming for her supremacy over the males, but only
expressing her suppressed feelings. She is fighting for her
rights.
The shameful and masked face of our society
provokes us to question the safety rules and laws of the
society. Are these rules and laws followed in our society?
If it was followed strictly, then the safety of women would
never have degraded to such a low level. Rape cases are
on the rise in India. Girls, women and even small children
are brutally raped and quite often killed. For all these
cruelties the whole blame is upon women. It is at this time
that certain questions arise. Why men get provoked at the
sight of a woman? What is the motive behind him that
leads him to such a cruel act? One of the reasons is that
there are no strict laws for punishing the criminals. There
are costly lawyers to advocate them and save them from
the loop holes. They are being favoured even in jails; as a
result of which they easily escape from these cases.
Another fact that comes to the forefront is that most of the
cases go unnoticed. In India, there have been cases where
girls are given hand in marriage to the rapists itself.
Marriage for the rapists is only a means of escape from
the case. It is not only the case in cities, even in rural
areas women are harassed, oppressed and tortured to
death. Self defence is a measure that proves to be a great
extent successful where the judiciary fails. Children
should be given tips and measures for their self defence.
They should also be given guidance to respect each other
from a very young age itself.
The attitude of the society is a major factor
that leads to these problems. The traditional and blind
faith of the people in the rural areas have resulted in the
loss of many lives mainly young girls. All these problems
can be solved to a great extent by bringing a change in
the attitude of the society. The society which considers
women as objects and commodities should consider them
as human beings who have the right to lead a normal and
happy life and it’s high time to adopt strong and effective
laws to prevent crimes against women.
