Seljuks United the Arabs and moved toward Islam as their religion. 1055 they took Baghdad

1075 took over the Byzantine Empire.

Crusades Started in 1095. Christians from W. Europe go to the Middle East and try to recapture

Jerusalem. Urban II called for this.1099 - Christians capture Jerusalem1187 – Saladin and Muslims take it back

Truce Finally a truce was signed so both could use Jerusalem

Results 1. Increased trade between Europe and the Middle East.2. Feudalism will decline.3. Education will spread.

Ottoman By the 1300’s a man named OsmanEmpire built a Muslim following. These people

were called Ottomans.By 1361 the controlled part of theold Byzantine Empire.

Sultan Rulers of the empire were called Sultans.

Suleyman the Lawgiver (Magnificent)was the most powerful. Reached thepeak in 1520.

WWI Empire collapses in 1917.
