What is a verb?

• Verbs show action in a sentence.

Verb Conjugation

• When a verb is conjugated it means that the verb now has a subject and a tense.– To talk

is not conjugated, we don’t know who is talking.

– She talksis conjugated, we know who is talking.

Infinitives

• When a verb is NOT conjugated, it is in the infinitive form. (no subject, no tense)

• Infinitive forms of verbs always begin with “TO.”– to talk– to listen– to dance

• In Spanish, all infinitive verbs will end in

-ar, -er, -ir

Spanish Pronouns

When conjugating verbs in Spanish, the following endings are used.

Memorize these verb endings.

To conjugate an “ar” verb– drop the “ar” from the end of the infinitive– hablar > habl– add the endings for “ar” verbs.
