Meet the Candidates Running for School Board

My name is Bobbie Ketelhut, I am married to Rodney Ketelhut, and have two daughters at Florence School, Malena 10th grade and Lacie 5th grade. My children were the 5th generation born in Las Vegas. Our ranch was eventually surrounded by city, so we bought proper-ty in Florence in 1995 after falling in love with the land and the people. I grew up in our family owned hardware store which we still own and operate (remotely) today, as well as being a prop-erty insurance adjuster. We have lived full-time in Florence for 5 years and we are grateful every day when we wake up to the river and the moun-tains knowing this is home for our future generations. We hold each day sacred

and feel so blessed to be part of the Florence community. Our daughters know this school is exceptional for the teachers, high quality lunches, kind janitors, and caring administrators. We have volunteered and/or do-nated anytime possible when the call goes out including at dances, teach-er appreciation events, hearing testing, school trips, classroom helper, Shop class, and even plowing the softball field last year when it was too deep for the kids to practice. Anything our school needs, we feel like it is our duty to jump in and help. Most people know us for our holiday dec-orations out along Eastside Highway at the river which we enjoy because it brings so many smiles to our neighbors. We constantly have people stop to say “Hi” when we are decorating and even leaving “Thank You” cards in our mailbox. It means a lot to us that we can do something that brightens the days for so many people. My father was a contractor, so even as a teenager I learned to bid jobs, do construction, and the value of a hard days’ work. I worked in the hardware store and eventually became the accountant and HR manager. For the past 10 years I have been an insurance adjuster for residential, commercial, and agricultural properties. I spend my days inspecting structures, reviewing contractor bids, investigating scenes, auditing in-voices, and still maintain the accounting/payroll for our family hardware store. This is a pivotal time for our school with the campus construction start-ing. I feel it is important to utilize my skills for the future of our school when it is vital to understand business, construction, accounting, and have compassion for the stress it could cause some people along the way. Each person in our community is a gear in a machine that all has to move in sync. We need to understand all the moving parts of the machine so the concerns of the people involved can be met including students, teach-ers, community, volunteers, and support staff. I believe it is our responsibility to teach children to be responsible adults from the earliest childhood years from the most basic manners as tod-dlers to vocational study or college preparation in high school. My goal is to be sure each age group has the tools necessary to best provide for their futures and ours.

Robert Cook Bobbie Ketelhut Age: 40, Married, 4 children in Florence Schools Born: Long Island, NY Employer: Montana Army National Guard (2016-Present) Position/Title: Recruiting and Reten-tion NCO Previous: North Carolina Army Na-tional Guard (1999-2016) Position/Title: Infantry First Sergeant & Recruiting and Retention Chief Education: MBA-PM, Liberty University, 3.99 GPA, grad: June 2019 Bachelor of Science, Liberty University, 4.0 GPA, grad: Jul 2015 Clubs/Groups/Organizations: NREMT Stevensville Sabres Soccer Club Florence Soccer MTNGA Hobbies/Interests: Being involved with my kids’ lives. Sports, cars, trains, music & theatre. Carpentry, horticulture, gardening and cooking. History, art, and classical architecture. Why do I want to be on the School Board? Continue my service to community with engagement through my children. I want to ensure that my children are provided the best opportunities possible, and that is on-ly possible when everyone is involved. Teachers, students, faculty, and community must support each other to create a climate of success and perpetual excellence. Where do I see myself contributing? Effectively, wherever is necessary; however, with my management and leadership background, I hope to influence short and near term productivity through effective budgetary management and teacher support, while developing long term sustainable growth plans that maximize community and regional coordi-nation and cooperation that reduces risk and enables the district to prepare for its continued growth.

Greetings, My name is Lacy Janes, I am a wife, mother, and business owner in the Florence Community. I was born and raised in Helena, MT. In 2011, I became a soldier with the Medical Unit for the Montana Army National Guard. My military training was in the dental field and has allowed me to do some dental work on the civilian side as well. Recently I have had the opportunity to coach a cheerleading team for another district culminating in a first place for our division. My favorite job has been being a mom to my three beautiful children Brylee, Boe, and Braylynn. My husband was born and raised here in Florence, and after having our first child six years ago, we knew in our hearts Florence was where we wanted to raise our family. Cody, my husband, attended Florence Carlton School from kindergarten to graduation in 2004. After earning a degree in A&P mechanics, he started his career in Aviation, which eventually led us to own-ing our business in helicopter repairs. I am so excited to have my kids attending the Florence Carlton School and have volunteered in the school since my daughter started kindergarten. While in her class-room, I had the pleasure of seeing how much our teachers genuinely care for each and every student. They are hardworking and dedicated to helping our students achieve their goals. Our teachers make decisions daily with the student’s best interest in mind: however often their voices go unheard. I found

myself asking: how can I support these teachers who are so passionate about teaching my children? I want to support our children’s education and our teachers in the best ways possible. These experiences have inspired me to run for a position on the school board. My goal as a member of the school board would be to create a long-term vision, mapping a course that provides the opportunities each student needs to reach their full potential. I strongly believe that we have tremendous teachers and staff educating our children. As a school board, our efforts must focus on supporting edu-cators through enhancing and enriching the education our students receive in the classroom. I would like to be a voice for our community and guid-ance for the ongoing development of our educational programs. In addition to the academic resources, we must support the arts, athletics, and other extracurricular activities that contribute to the development of the whole child. I will work hard to ensure that this district’s dedication continues for the benefit of all Florence Carlton students, staff, and families. I ask for your support in allowing me to be your voice on the Florence School Board.

Ckye Thomas grew up in the Bitter root and has lived in the FCCS district for 16 years. He has a beautiful wife and an eight-year-old Florence Falcon in the 2nd grade. Ckye is a small business owner and competitive shooter. With an open mind and a positive attitude, he will do his best for the kids and the community.

Friday, March 6th, the Florence-Carlton kindergarten classes went to the Daly Mansion to find out how maple syrup is made from the sap of sugar maple trees. Maybe you have noticed the alley of trees when you drive into the mansion. Those are sugar maples! Mr. Bob Gibson told us when nights are cold and days get sunny and warmer towards the end of winter, it is time to tap the trees and let the clear sap run into the collection buckets. Then, off to the wood fire and boiling pan. The syrup makers boil the sap until it thickens and darkens. That sweet treat will be bottled and sold as a fundraiser for the Daly Mansion. We enjoyed exploring the grounds, rolling down hills into piles of leaves and eating a picnic lunch too. In the afternoon we stopped by the Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge. We found a number of woodpeckers, two porcupines lounging in trees, and other creatures along our path. It was just a beautiful day! A number of parents and grandparents joined our group for this adventure. Many thanks for all their help!

Leaning Tower of Soup!

For the second year, the Florence-Carlton Kindergarten classes collected 100 cans of tomato soup for 100’s Day and as a “Hearty” gift to the Pan-try Partners for Valentine’s Day. We collected cans in each room, then came together to count them into groups of ten. Finally we counted by tens to 100! Oops, we were two cans short. Only 98! A Hearty THANK YOU to the mom who went to the store and brought us two more cans!
