APRIL CALENDAR OF EVENTS STEP BACK IN TIME AT HISTORIC HILLFOREST Spring is a beautiful time to visit Hillforest, the Victorian house museum overlooking historic downtown Aurora. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated as a National Historic Landmark, Hillforest is the original home of the Gaffs, an historically prominent family whose presence can still be felt in the 1855 Italianate mansion. This year’s featured exhibit is A Stitch in Time - Antique Quilts & Coverlets. In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Aurora’s founding this year, Hillforest will host a Bicentennial Pioneer Day on Saturday, May 18. Visitors will also want to mark their calendars for the many teas, tours, youth camps and special events that will take place at Hillforest throughout the year, including a special “Designer Bag Event” held in conjunction with our own Tour for the Cure ® in early October. Hillforest will open to the public on April 2 and remain open through the end of December. Tours are offered from 1-5pm every day except Monday and major holidays. Welcome to spring in Southeast Indiana! We have several great art events going on in April, including the Southeastern Indiana Art Guild’s Spring Art Show, a performance sponsored by the Dearborn Highlands Arts Council, and a special exhibit at the Dillsboro Arts Friendship Gallery. We’re also excited that several of our historic properties are now open for the season. In addition to Hillforest (featured on the cover), Carnegie Hall in Moores Hill will open for Sunday tours this month, while Veraestau Historic Site in Aurora will open on select dates beginning in May.

Did you know that the Dillsboro branch of the Aurora Public Library District has been selected to host a special traveling Smithsonian Institution Museum on Main Street exhibit this fall? Entitled Crossroads: Change in Rural America, the special exhibit will include interactive displays exploring the themes of community, identity, land use, and managing change. The exhibit will be open during library hours during select dates in September and October, and is one of only six locations in the state of Indiana to be selected as an exhibition site.

BIKE SHARE PROGRAMTO OPEN FOR SEASONNow that spring has officially arrived, we’re excited to announce the return of our River Cities Bike Share, the “ride-and-return”bike service located in Lawrenceburg and Aurora, and along Dearborn Trails. Equipped with a locking mechanism, the Shimano seven-speed bicycles are housed at several docking sites in both communities, and can be reserved and rented via an app or directly onsite. WINE TRAIL to Host Spring Event“Spring Into the Valley” this month along the Indiana Wine Trail! TRI-STATE ANTIQUE Returns Next MonthIndiana’s largest “antiques and vintage-only collectibles market” will open for the season early next month at the Lawrenceburg Fairgrounds. Popular with treasure hunters of all types, the Tri-State Antique Market offers deals and one-of-a-kind items from more than 200 vendors at the indoor-outdoor event, including antique furniture, collectibles, vintage merchandise and more.The first Tri-State Antique Market of the season will be held on Sunday, May 5, with additional shows planned for June 2, July 7, August 4, September 1 and October 6. Adult admission is $3, and children under 18 are admitted free.
