Celebrating JoeThe Final Accounting A Night of Reckoning for Joseph A. ShankThe first of three special celebrations of the ministry of Joe Shank will begin at 7:00PM, Friday, April 25th. The event will be held at a Winnetka private club which requested that the loca-tion be divulged only on the formal invitations which will be mailed in the next week or so. The night of toasting Reverend Shank will include appetizers, drinks, and dessert only. You should plan to eat before you come as the focus will be on the entertainment rather than the food. This is an adults only event (21 and over). It will be an irreverent, spirited, and enlightening night featur-ing speakers from different periods of Reverend Shanks life who will be sharing stories and setting the record straight. If you are interested in speaking from the podium, you must contact Mike Walther ([email protected] or (847) 420-4037) with your interest in speaking and the subjects you plan to cover with your toast. The agenda is filling rapidly so respond to Mike as soon as possible. Attire will be casual (jeans are fine). Attendance will be limited to the first 250 people to respond. Seating is limited to 200. Some attendees will need to stand. Cost to attend: $25 per individual.

On Monday, April 7th, it is our turn to serve at A Just Harvest. If you are interested in serving dinner the first Monday of any month, please contact Laurie Morse at 847-835-4123.

We continue a Dairy Drive on behalf of the St. Sabina Social Service Store at 79th & Racine in Chicagos Auburn Gresham neighborhood untill April 13. Such scarce items are much needed and appreciated in a community where unemployment is over 25%. The store provides a place for cus-tomers to shop for food and clothing for free.

So, you will find empty milk gallon containers in the narthex and Tolman Hall during this time for coin and cash donations that will be driven to the store along with Mens Clothing col-lected at our recent Mens Fellowship Springfest BBQ. L e n t e n

  • Proposed Interfaith

Holy Land TourThe Winnetka Interfaith Council, through the expertise of its Presi-dent and travel agent. Dr. Mitch Slotnick, is proposing 10-day Inter-faith Holy Land Tour for our local congregations sometime next Fall 2014 or Midwinter 2015.

Significant sites in the Abrahamic faith traditions of Christians, Jews, and Muslims would be highlighted in the areas of Tel Aviv, Haifa, Galilee and Jerusalem. Contingent on number of pilgrims, the combined cost for air, basic room and board, and bus would range between $4000-$4500 per person. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, contact William Mueller at [email protected]. We will be happy to provide you a handout.

Additionally, members of the WCC 2020 team would like to engage with small groups, particularly Spiritual Life, to discuss the plan. We hope that you will invite us to join one of your April sessions. Our goal is to have the congregation ratify the plan at the annual meeting, likely May 4, 2014.

Over the past few weeks the WCC 2020 Vision team has fine-tuned the implementation plan and, significantly, has redeveloped our Mis-sion, Vision, and Belief statements. This was present-ed to Leadership on Tuesday March 11. Since then, the 2020 team has worked on further revisions with a goal to gain Council approval on Tuesday April 8 to bring the implementation plan to the congregation for discussion. By April 9 we hope to have the plan posted to the
