advance.
SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK Please notify the rectory or priest in the event of a serious illness. Communal
anointing of the sick will be celebrated a few times during the year. Visits to the home-bound and those in hospitals are made by priests and Eucharistic Minister.

Priest.
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION (R.C.I.A.) Have you received the Sacrament of Confirmation, First Eucharist or First Penance? Are you interested in membership in the Catholic Church? If so, call the Rectory.
PARISH MEMBERSHIP
Welcome! Every Catholic should be registered in the Parish. Letters of testimony for Godparents and Sponsors cannot be given unless one is registered. All
parishioners should be active in parish life and be known to one of the Parish Priests. Stewardship (church support) is a serious responsibility of every Catholic. We urge all parishioners to make regular use of their collection envelopes. When moving,
notify the Parish office.
OUR LADY OF SORROWS MISSION STATEMENT We are Catholic Christians of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish who are conscious of the
plan of God for the salvation of all. We praise the Lord in our everyday lives by sharing our faith and talents with each other for the continued growth of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Community. We wish to live the Beatitudes of Jesus and put them
into practice in our daily lives as we answer His call to evangelization.
Baby Steps
In your spiritual life, you must be satisfied to progress gradually. Usu-ally you will not notice your growth. Sometimes it may even seem you are growing backward as you discover your weaknesses and failings. But trust in God. Allow God to lead you through your spiritual companions and through your own study and prayer.
ARCHDIOCESE OF NEWARK
2016 LENTEN REGULATIONS
1)The days of both Fast and Abstinence during Lent are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the “paschal fast” to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare our-selves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily His Resurrection. The other Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence.
On a day of Fast, only one (1) full meal is permitted, and two (2) smaller meals, which if added together, would not exceed the main meal in quantity.
Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast.
On a day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those who have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of abstinence.
2)The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Absti-nence “substantially”, or as a whole, is a serious obli-gation.
3)The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are designated as days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-denial as penance.
2)The time for fulfilling the Paschal Precept (Easter Duty*) extends from the First Sunday of Lent, February 14, 2016 to The solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, May 22, 2016.
*Canon 920, §1.All the faithful, after they have been initi-ated into the Most Holy Eucharist, are bound by the obli-gation of receiving Communion at least once a year.

SAINTS: WHO ARE THEY? Looking for a way to enrich your celebration of the Easter Season? Consider joining the Community of God’s Love for “A Vast Company of Witnesses: The Communion of Saints,” another episode in the series “Catholicism” by Bishop Robert Barron. Didn’t see any of the previous epi-sodes? No problem. Each episode explores a different topic and can be enjoyed independently. In this episode, the Catholic Faith is made visible in real human lives. Bishop Barron focuses on some of the Church’s greatest heroes and demonstrates how their extraordinary examples display both the passion and creative potential of the Cath-olic Church. Highlighting Katharine Drexel, Therese of Lisieux, Edith Stein, and Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Bish-op Barron tells the story of the Church as a vast company of witnesses who are called to be a Communion of Saints. The program will take place on Friday, April 15, at Visita-tion House, 70 West Passaic Avenue (Corner of West Pas-saic and Mortimer Avenues) in Rutherford. The evening will include a light supper at 7 p.m., the video at 8 p.m., and will conclude with dessert and discussion. For infor-mation and registration, call 201-935-0344 or email [email protected]
