LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, Here it is April again. It feels to me like these Spring months have been loaded towards May with Easter being so late in the calendar and now the weeks are rushing towards summer. One best get on the train…. A few of you have asked about the new rolling gates behind the Church building in the parking area in front of the football field. These are to give a bit more protection for the field and will be open/closed when the south back gates are open/closed. Next week is the week I am asking you to PICK TWO! This coming Sunday, from 1:00-3:20pm, the Together Baton Rouge House Session will meet. We join Star Hill Baptist Church in this effort to tell our stories about how living in Baton Rouge affects our lives and the lives of our families. Hopefully, from these stories, we can identify some of the concerns we may have that could be improved in the quality of living. Conversation that helps us reach our common humanity and thirsts can be an amazingly insightful event. I hope you will come. That same week, on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 5th-6th, 7:00pm, and again on Sunday, April 10th, 2:00pm and 3:30pm, we will hold 4 listening sessions about our proposed Master Facility Plans. The Committee has been working on these proposals for two years. We’ll have some renderings, and descriptions for you to understand the proposals. We’d like to know what you think and what is your ability to support these proposals. These meetings will only be 1 hour long. Please come. No reservations needed. This coming September, I am joining with two other persons to lead a trip to Southern Italy and Sicily [Sept. 7th-20th]. Some brochures are available in the Church book rack for more information. People seem to cook well there… It is getting to be the time to think about your Holy Week schedule. Holy Week is April 17th-24th. We begin with Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion, with solemn procession with palms before the 9:30am Sunday Mass; with Holy Thursday [April 21st] Mass at 7:00pm, followed by prayer before the Blessed Sacrament till 11:00pm; Good Friday, 3:00pm [April 22nd] with the proclamation of the Passion of St. John, Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion, and then prayer before the Cross from 7:00pm-

We extend our sympathy to the following parishioners who recently lost a loved one:

Steve and Melanie Amond on the death of her father, Ardie Dauzet.

9:00pm; Easter Vigil, [April 23rd] beginning at 8:00pm with the lighting of the New Fire, and Easter Vigil Mass with Christian Initiation; Easter Sunday [April 24th] Masses at 7:30, 9:30 and 11:30am with baptisms. These are our most holy and solemn days. Please come and bring your children and your grandchildren. Teach them our ways. Check the parish website for all the details. Lent continues for our salvation. I hope you will take advantage of the sacrament of Reconciliation each Monday of Lent, 6:00-7:00pm in Church. I’m waiting for you. Thanks to all who helped support the Annual Gala for our School ministries. I and all who serve in these ministries thank you so much. Have a good week. Love,

A REFLECTION ON THIS WEEK’S SCRIPTURES

Reflection By: Denise Louviere 4th Sunday of Lent 1Sm 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13a Ps 23:1-3a, 3b-4, 5, 6 Eph 5:8-14 Jn 9:1-41 Talk about blindness! In the Gospel today, Jesus heals a blind man. But many of the people focus on trying to discredit his miracle rather then acknowledging that Jesus just made a blind man see! The blind man not only can see, but he also sees the importance of following Jesus, while the people with sight are totally blind to this. At Baptism, our spiritual eyes were opened. We could see the light of Christ. Because of this, let us focus on seeing the goodness and glory of God’s mercy and love in all things. Avoid spiritual blindness at all costs. Make a point this Lent to say and do what this blind man in today’s Gospel does. Use your spiritual eyes to affirm, “I do believe, Lord!” How would your life be different if you did not have spiritual eyesight? Lord this week help me to …………..

CATHOLICS COME HOME This week we hear the account of the Man Born Blind, the prophet Isaiah tells us that “people who walk in darkness will see a great light”. Jesus is the “light of the world”. We all suffer form some form of blindness, whether it is prejudice, ignorance, or indifference. We don’t always see the poor, the immigrant, the widow or the unborn in our lives. Christ our redeemer heals us as He healed the man born blind and opens our eyes to His love so that we might respond to the injustices in our world. Chapters 23 and 24 of the US Catholic Catechism for Adults provide more information on opening our eyes and responding to injustices.

DRAMA CLUB The St. Jean Vianney School Drama Club will be performing “Kokonut Island” for family and friends on April 16, 2011, in Fr. Engels Hall at 2pm and 6:30 pm. Reservations are $8 each and can be made by contacting Mrs. Gavin at 751.1831 or email at [email protected]. We are also offering ad space in the program. The cost for a business card size ad is $10, half page ad is $15, and a full page ad is $25. Monies raised will be used to enrich our Drama Club sound system.
