LAGNIAPPE Second Sunday of Easter

April 12, 2015

Page 2: April 12 2015 original

Dear Friends, One of the great things about Catholic life is a certain irony that can be humorous. Like how we look upon Lent-Easter. Catholics have 40 days of Lent—but then we come right back and take 50 days of Easter joy. Who said that Catholics don’t enjoy Life? The doorway to spring is opened with Easter Sunday and that also means church and family events lie ahead: First Eucharist, Confirmation, Mother’s Day, Graduations. Within the hope of Resurrection we acknowledge our connection to the Lord and how God is acting in our lives and the lives of those we love. Just before Easter John Pastorek of Channel 2 did an interview with me in Church about the stations of the Cross. The link to see the show is here: http://www.wbrz.com/videos/sunday-journal-father-tom-ranzino. I hope you find it inspiring that our Church’s art is so appreciated by so many in our diocese and across the country. Perhaps you learned a new attitude or behavior because of your Lenten penance and now you are finding that this new virtue is worth keeping in your life. Good for you. Sometimes that’s exactly what happens when we integrate a new “habit” of being. It takes about 320 days for us to ingrain a new habit. After all the Lenten work, keep up whatever it was, behavior or attitude, that you find fruitful and let God do the rest. Have a good week. Love,

We extend our sympathy to the following parishioners who recently lost a loved one:

To the family of Dean Napoli on the death of his mother, Elsie Napoli.

VOCATION Easter! Resurrection and new life; a new life shared from an earthen tomb. This has been the meaning of life for Christian people for two thousand years. There is nothing more secure, nothing more lasting. Come and share the thrill of proclaiming this truth through your life as a priest or as a religious. Call or email Father Matt Dupré at 225.336.8778, [email protected], or visit, www.diobr.org/vocations.

St. Jean Vianney Social Responsibility News

The Joy of the Gospel

“How is the Gospel good news for me?”

“How will I let the Spirit call me to be a new evangelizer?”

“How is Pope Francis challenging us to live out our faith?”

“How can we live out that challenge in our local parishes and communities?”

St. Jean Vianney, along with other churches, the Jesuit Social Research Institute, and others, are sponsoring a reflection series on Pope Francis’ “The Joy of the Gospel”. You can attend any or all of the sessions: April 18:10am – 3pm, April 22: 6pm – 8pm, May 6: 6pm – 8pm, and May 16: 10am – 2pm. Join us and many others from all across the Diocese to reflect on Pope Francis’ writing and answer the questions above. If you have any questions, please call Lyn Hassenboehler at the church office (leave a message and she’ll call you back). Register online at: joyofthegospel.eventbrite.com
