Washburn Weekly Update April 29th to May 3rd, 2019

Professor Edward Torres Headmaster, Washburn School Director, Washburn English Institute Greetings: Thank you to the parents, guardians, and visitors who accompanied our students on Thursday, April 25, to the Field Day in the track field in Juana Diaz. It was a day of fun, sharing, and learning. Congratulations to our Physical Education teacher Mr. Jason Torres and our support staff member Mr. Conde for spearheading in the organization of the Field Day. We had our basketball season and our teams did extremely well. Are you ready for more on sports? Well, here are the Soccer Games for Monday, April 29. Come and support our teams! Location: Colegio Ponceño Mini Boys : Washburn School vs. Colegio Ponceño at 5 pm Mini Girls : Washburn School vs. San Judas at 6 pm Junior Boys (Two games) Washburn School vs. Colegio Ponceño at 4 pm Washburn Scholl vs. API at 6 pm Monday, April 29, Student of the Month Celebration at 8:30 am On Friday, March 29, we kicked off our “Relevo por la Vida” activity. Relay for Life is done every year at Washburn for the people who have passed way from cancer or are sick with cancer. On May 4 is our final activity and we will be at the Paquito Montaner Stadium. Please help support our cause with your donations and come join us on May 4. Every Tuesday until May 4 will be “Relevo por la Vida” Day. Only the students who have bought the t-shirts representative of the Relevo can use the t-shirts, jeans and sneakers on Tuesdays. Here is a head start in our calendar : Wednesday, May 8; Thursday, May 9; and Friday, May 10, are the reviews for the final exams. Monday, May 13; Tuesday, May 14; and Wednesday, May 15, are the days of the administration of the final examinations. (More information will be forthcoming.) Thursday, May 16, will me final exam make-up day. Wednesday, May 15, will be Move Up Day for the kindergarten students. It will be at the Palacio Hall in Juana Díaz at 6 pm. Friday, May 17, is the last day of school for the students. There will be an early dismissal at 10 am. Thursday, May 30 , Graduation Ceremony for the 8th graders and seniors at 1 pm at the Centro de Bellas Artes in Juana Díaz. Thursday, May 30, “Noche de Logros”, Night of Achievements , where the students from the 1st grade to 12th grade will be recognized for their outstanding achievements throughout the school year.

This week I will be involved in the following: 1. Participate in student of the Month celebration 2. Continue conducting the final classroom visits for the summative evaluations of teachers 3 Provide support and guidance to newly appointed teachers 4. As usual, I do my daily walk arounds in the school premises 5. Meet with parents and teachers on a one –to- one basis 6. Conduct informal classrooms visits 7. Complete reading and scoring the English assessments administered to the 7 -12 graders 8. Read and assess prospective teachers’ writing samples

Felicitamos a todos los estudiantes que recibieron sus certificados oficiales de las diferentes competencias llevadas a cabo durante este año escolar. Cada uno de ustedes son ejemplos de que nuestra educación es una educación holística e integral. A su vez, extendemos nuestras felicitaciones, en su día, a todos los maestros que con su esfuerzo, entereza y entrega educan a sus hijos con pasión y con responsabilidad. Agradecemos a todos los estudiantes, padres, madres, encargados, visitantes que participaron de nuestro Día de Juegos. Este año se observó una integración mucho más amplia de toda la comunidad escolar. Los estudiantes manifestaron su alegría por contar con toda su familia en la actividad. A continuación las actividades que se llevarán a cabo en el mes de mayo:

1. La actividad de “Student of the Month” del mes de abril se llevará a cabo el lunes, 29 de abril a las 8:30 a.m.

2. La actividad cumbre del Relevo por la Vida se llevará a cabo el sábado, 4 de mayo en el Parque Paquito Montaner.

3. El miércoles, 8 de mayo, jueves 9 de mayo y viernes, 10 de mayo serán los repasos de los exámenes finales.

4. El lunes 13, martes 14 y miércoles 15 de mayo serán los exámenes finales. Oportunamente, les informaremos el horario y el orden de los exámenes para esos días.

5. El jueves, 16 de mayo será el día de reposición de algún examen. 6. El miércoles, 15 de mayo a las 6:00 p.m. se llevará a cabo la promoción de Kinder en el

Palacio de las Artes en Juana Díaz. 7. El viernes, 17 de mayo será el último día de los estudiantes. Ese día tendrán un compartir.

La salida será a las 10:00 a.m. 8. El jueves, 30 de mayo a la 1:00 p.m. se llevará a cabo la graduación de Octavo y Duodécimo

grado en el Centro de Bellas Artes de Juana Díaz. 9. El jueves, 30 de mayo a las 7:00 p.m. se llevará a cabo la Noche de logros para todos los

estudiantes desde Primero a Undécimo grado.
