Hill Country Film Festival | 1 | www.hillcountryff.com

Welcome to Fredericksburg, Fritztown Cinema and the 2016 Hill Country Film Festival.

Thank you for joining us for the 7th annual festival in the heart of the Texas Hill Country.

This year’s schedule of screenings, panel discussions and events has something everyone will love. Whether you are looking for a foreign lm experience or an outlandish American comedy, to gain industry advice or to meet the next “big” lmmaker, Fredericksburg is the perfect town to complement that experience.

The Hill Country Film Festival is our signature celebration so each year at this time we are powerfully reminded of why our lm society was formed in the rst place: to encourage discovery through visual storytelling. Our goal is to create experiences that

educate, inspire and engage throughout the year. We accomplish this by hosting the festival and other events including:

• Film Affäre, an annual fundraiser that pairs food, lm and lively discussion

• Film Camp, a week-long camp teaching lmmaking and producing a student-made short lm, delivered in partnership with Fredericksburg ISD Community education

• Indie Film Series, a free monthly screening showcasing the best of independent lm, hosted in partnership with Fritztown Cinema

Our all-volunteer staff commits time and energy into making sure that lm remains a vibrant part of our culture and community. For that, I am extremely thankful to them.

We are grateful for the generous sponsors, donors and lm society members who share our commitment to supporting lm as an art form. None of this would be possible without you.

And nally to our movie-goers and out-of-town guests, thanks for spending the weekend with us. We hope you enjoy your time at the festival and we encourage you to take in a museum or art gallery, hike Enchanted Rock and explore Main Street. We know you’ll fall in love with all that Fredericksburg has to offer.

Happy movie watching!

Welcome

Chad MathewsExecutive Director

Enduring that awkward period of life between boyhood and manhood, the two pass their time the best way they know how — with the movie house, football and girls. Jacy (Cybill Shepherd) is Duane’s steady, wanted by every boy in school, and she knows it. Her daddy is rich and her mom is good looking and loose. It’s the general consensus that whoever wins Jacy’s heart will be set for life. But Anarene is dying a quiet death as folks head for the big cities to make their livings and raise their kids. The boys are torn between a future somewhere out there beyond the borders of town or making do with their inheritance of a run-down pool hall and a decrepit movie house — the legacy of their friend and mentor, Sam the Lion (Ben Johnson). As high school graduation approaches, they learn some difcult lessons about love, loneliness and jealousy. Then folks stop attending the second-run features at the movie house and the time comes for the last picture show. With the closure of the movie house, the boys feel that a stage of their lives is closing. They stand uneasily on the threshold of the rest of their lives.
