“ “Mr. Phillip L. Adkins is an individual who lives and applies the Four-Way Test in his daily life. I have known Mr. Adkins for a number of years. It has been an honor to serve with him as a Director of our Rotary Club. As a Director, Mr. Adkins always brought a high energy level to the meeting. He consistently offered meaningful insight to the topics and issues being discussed. He is well respected by the Directors and the general membership. Our club is stronger and improved due to Mr. Adkins’ leadership on our Board and at the District level. Mr. Adkins contributes to the furtherance to Rotary in his business life as well. I have witnessed this first-hand. As a Realtor, I have had the opportunity to interact with Mr. Adkins involving his Shipley Do-Nuts company. No doubt, Mr. Adkins’ success is attributed to his commitment to doing business inspired by the ideals of Rotary.” ”

““Allison Batlin has been the major energizing factor in our South Austin Rotary Club changing us from a club that just meets at lunch to a club involved in local and international service projects, helping to recruit and mentor wonderful youthful members, and always willing to give a hand at anything the club needs. She goes above and beyond on every social she plans for the club wanting everything to be special. She hosted the 2009 Holiday Party at her home which was an exceptional experience for all of her fellow Rotarians. Allison Batlin works very hard on fund-raising for our annual golf tournament. She has true “service above self” when mentoring her “Little” from the Big Brothers Big Sister Program that our club sponsored. She brings her “Little” to South Austin Rotary club events such as: our 2010 DAP project where we made backpacks with school supplies for the Settlement Home. She wants her “Little” to see how to give to others. She is always teaching about Rotary’s ways. Allison Batlin is truly worthy of the Roll of Fame Award always exhibiting the willingness to give her time to improve the lives of people of our community and our world.””

““When I picture Shirley, I always picture her with a smile. She can be tough and sweet at the same time, which motivates people into action, and makes them feel good about doing something. Shirley never backs down from any Rotary responsibilities, as you can tell from her list of offices, awards, etc. Once she takes something on, she handles it deftly, and without complaint. Shirley is currently serving as my Service Project Chair, and we are doing more projects than I can remember during my membership. This makes us all proud Rotarians. Our Club’s aggressive service commitment would not be possible without someone like Shirley, who has a servant’s heart, and is also very organized. I lean on her quite a bit, and she never lets me down. Shirley makes guests and visiting Rotarians always feel welcome, and makes a point to introduce them to me and to our other members. Fellowship comes very naturally to her. Shirley is also very creative, which is vital to a Club that meets weekly. A great example is that we designated the month of December as our month of religious and cultural diversity and understanding. So, we had the Fellowship of Christian Athletes representative, a Rabbi from Beth Israel, an Asian American Cultural Center representative, and an expert on Islam as a speaker.”.”

““Why would Austin University Area Rotary Club choose the winner of two U. S. Squash National Championships to be its Roll of Fame honoree? Just like the squash ball that doesn’t bounce until it is warmed up by hitting it hard, Paul has hit seventeen (17) District Conferences. As Governor of District 5160, he led a Friendship Exchange Team to Mexico City, and Acapulco, where the Team attended the District Conference of his GSE Partner District. His “sweet spot” is that he has the innate capability of knowing what leadership skills a Rotarian has and gears his dialog and instruction to give each of us power shots to accomplish more for the underserved improving everyone’s morale. He has carried a heavy load as my Vice-President in charge of all club service projects in Austin and internationally using those skill sets that made him a champion on the courts and in business.

Paul is the former Chairman of the Board of Rotoplast International dedicated to changing lives through reconstructive surgery. I am gratified to see Paul and Lucy receive Role of Fame recognition from District 5870 for changing lives and humbled to be in their wide circle of friends.” ”

He is always willing to step in and help in many areas of Rotary, especially when projects involve children or international goodwill. When our Club sponsors a project, such as Service Austin, we can count on Don Ray being there as an active participant. When Group Study Exchange needs support, Don Ray is there to lend a hand, helping with everything from interviewing prospective team members to hosting incoming team events. As an active Past President of our Club, he continues to attract new, quality members to Rotary. Don Ray serves Rotary well at our Club level, within the district and internationally and is deserving of this honor. I am delighted to recommend him for the District 5879 Roll of Fame.””

““Lou Gibson has been an active member of the Georgetown-Sun City Rotary Club since 2004. He has accepted assignments willingly and has advanced his club’s roll into numerous leadership positions as noted in the above write-up. His morals, ethics, and daily actions truly reflect Rotary’s Four-Way Test. His leadership in the continued success of the Breakfast With Santa Project, his leadership in recruiting new members to our club, his determination in the establishment of the endowment fund is certainly evidence of his “Service Above Self” Attitude. He was recently given an award by the Daughters of The American Revolu tion (DAR) for Excellence in Community Service. This is shown in his involvement in many other community and church activities. Lou is an active participant in all Rotary Club activities and can always be counted on to do what ever is necessary.”

““I can think of no one who better exemplifies the Rotary Motto, “Service Above Self” than Lisa Griffin. As the immediate past president of our club, she established an agenda for projects and programs that focused on local and international children. Her plan has carried over to the current year and was identified as the focus for our club’s leadership in 2011-2012. Her direction and leadership made Lisa the hands-down choice for “Rotarian of the Year” for Killeen Heights in 2007-2008. Lisa has devoted a great deal of her time and energy to Rotary, often sacrificing her valuable personal and family time to lead fund-raising efforts, author grants, serve as the webmaster for the club website, and serve as chairperson for the club allocations committee. As a busi ness leader, Lisa also practices the Four-Way-Test by consistently making decisions based on high ethical considerations. Employees of The Carlson Law Firm respect and admire her, not simply due to her title or position, but because she has sound, fair decision making skills. Lisa Griffin is also a leader in our community, serving on local boards such as Better Business Bureau. She was recognized by the ABWA Bell Chapter as Business Associate of the Year in 2009-2010 because of her business acumen and interpersonal skills. Although Lisa has previously served in just about every leadership capacity in our Rotary club, she continues to volunteer for further service. Whether the task is putting together a five kilometer race for Polio Plus fundraising, such as “Monster Dash,” serving on the registration committee for the District Assembly, or serving on a planning committee for our annual Christmas party, Lisa brings a level of energy and innovation that inspires others to do great things for Rotary. As club president, I strongly support Lisa Griffin's nomination to the District 5870 Roll of Fame.”

““Gene Holiman is the Rotarian whom many other Rotarians aspire to be. He is always eager to volunteer for a committee, to participate in a project, to offer constructive advice, to look for the positive aspects of any situation, and to find efficient and effective ways to conduct and complete a project. He organized and ran new member orientation. He conducts himself with dignity and in an exceptionally cheerful manner. He is often among the first of our members to reach the sales goal in our major fundraiser. I have never heard him complain about participating in or supporting club or district activities or projects. In short, Gene puts the needs and goals of Rotary above whatever other activity he is currently engaged in.”

He remains active in all club activities and continues to provide community service at every opportunity. Roland’s ethical and moral compass makes his faith indomitable; his devotion to family unparalleled; his friendship heartfelt; and his integrity beyond reproach. Whether serving as a mentor and teacher for students, or a mentor and trainer for peers, or a leader and exemplar for Rotarians – service is simply Roland’s way of life – and his fellow club members have nothing but the highest praise and respect for Roland as a humanitarian, a mentor, a leader, and a friend.”

““Jeff has personified the Four Way Test in the way he lives his life. He continues to use it as the specific measure of how he conducts his personal and professional life on a daily basis. On a personal note, if it were not for Jeff, I would not be in Rotary. He was instrumental in getting me into Rotary as a non-vocational community volunteer. He had faith that I would become a good Rotarian and upon joining, I was immediately put to work as Community Lane Chair. Later that same year, he rented a passenger van and drove members of our club to San Antonio to the Rotary International Convention. I was blown away and the Convention made me a Rotarian for life by opening my eyes. That was ten years ago this year. I am now president. Back then, he had to fight for me to be able to join. He still says that Rotary is cool and he wants to be President again, but his wife Elizabeth will not let him. No matter how bad the weather, he is still a shining beam. Jeff doesn’t want to be nominated for this award but his humbleness will be overpow ered by the club, me, and his wife’s enthusiasm.”

““Rotarian Stephen Menczer is the most selfless individual I know. We have served together in Rotary for many years in two Rotary Clubs and during that entire time his service to Rotary and to the community has been unwavering. He has been the “behind-the-scenes” spark that made our many Rotary functions go well. Usually, that involved a Rotary fundraiser at which Stephen provided incentives, donated gifts and materials, and lent his hands to the sweat equity in every project. His quiet work was instrumental in helping our Club to lead the District in fund raising for Polio. Over many years, when the Club found a need, Stephen was first in line to lead by example with his generosity. He refuses credit—actually prefers to be anonymous in his giving. Over the years, he has served on many Rotary Club committees, both in Community Service, Foundation fund-raising, and Club Service. In our City, he has served on important committees. In his church, he is the main person leading devotions at 3:00 a.m.. He visits the sick, he helps soldiers and their families. Stephen serves in the Chamber of Commerce and in the City. This is a man who is the living example of service above self. We are a better club and a better community for his presence. We all should be more like him.”
