April 2016 Trinity Lutheran Church and School

Dear Loved Ones,

Thanks! I almost mentioned it on Easter Sunday, that is, to say “thanks” to those who volunteer here at Trinity. We don’t say “thanks” enough. I’m referring to so many of our members who quietly go about their volunteer efforts by holding offices, serving on boards, helping with various tasks related to worship, and volunteer in so many other ways. I am so personally gratified that so much is done by these volunteer efforts. Truly we couldn’t “do it” without you! Thanks!

Confirmation is coming May 1st. Seven are scheduled to be confirmed that day. It is a day in which these eighth grade students give witness to their faith in Jesus. The examination will be Wednesday April 27th at 7 p.m. with a cake reception to be held after that. Students and their families are welcome to invite relatives and friends to the examination and the day of Confirmation.

Children's Church will continue until the end of the school year. Thanks go out to Sarah Masters, Stephanie Scott and Sheila Koss for leading this important teaching opportunity for children! It’s held during worship on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month when Trinity School children are singing.

Food Pantry – The latest contribution from a dinner held by St. John’s Green Garden has completed fundraising for the Downtown Revitalization Grant that was made available to the Madison Ministerial. This will enable us to have new windows and doors installed, a beautiful awning with our name placed out front, new siding, stucco or tuck-pointing and roof maintenance. Thanks to all who contributed. Members of the Madison Ministerial have mentioned that for the last few years we have been in the “fund raising” mode. First, for the “Handy Hands” Ministry, then for the purchase of the building, then for the DTR grant. We are looking forward to a different focus in the future! The sale of the building has yet to be accomplished but when that is done our plan is to have an official “ribbon cutting” and open house.

Vacancy at Battle Creek We hope that the vacancy is soon coming to an end. The call committee there has been working diligently to sort through names of possible candidates supplied by the district, then call. A call was issued to Rev. Andrew Radcliffe who is an associate pastor at St. John’s in Seward. He visited the congregation on Palm Sunday meeting and met with various groups there. We should be hearing about his decision on the call within a couple of weeks. When a pastor is installed; my responsibilities for the vacancy will be complete.

Finance Facts – a note from your Treasurer We started 2016 in a good cash position as we paid off our debt early this year. Since that time our offerings have dropped considerably and we have found ourselves $35,000 in debt at the end of March. This has especially been alarming in the last month with an increase in debt of $20,000. If offerings remain the same, we can expect the debt to continue to increase at this pace. Current average giving for the months of February and March was $4,223. To pay off the current debt and meet our budget, average giving needs to be $9,000 per week. May God Bless us all to do what we can to serve Him here at Trinity!! Jennifer Zessin
