New Executive Director of the Parkside Community Association Since coming on as the Parkside Community Associa- tion’s new Executive Director a few weeks ago, I have had the pleasure of meeting many of the neighbor- hood’s active members and hearing stories about the rich and diverse history of the neighborhood. There are very few places that can compare to Parkside and the sense of community that exists in this neighborhood. Just last week, a couple came into the PCA office who were visiting from Maryland; originally from the Parkside area, they said that even though they had moved out of town decades earlier, this is the place they still call home. The PCA was built on a strong foundation, comprised of neighbors uniting together to protect their community against threats of redlining and block- busting. Since the PCA’s inception in 1963, our mem- bers have worked tirelessly to preserve and enhance the quality of life that so many have come to enjoy. I have been involved with many organizations, and I can honestly say that the level of commitment and passion that the PCA’s members have is second to none. From advocating for safer streets and crime prevention, to organizing family-friendly events for our neighbors, the PCA has played a crucial role in making this neighbor- hood great. As we look back on these many accomplishments and celebrate the PCA’s 50th Anniversary, I can’t help but think about what the next 50 years will bring. Ulti- mately, it is my goal for us to build on the past efforts of the PCA and use these successes to guide us into the next 50 years of preserving and enhancing the Parkside neighborhood. Over the next 50 years we will strive for continued greatness, but this cannot be ac- complished by one individual alone. Now, more than ever before, communities need to be collaborative and engaged to address challenges and opportunities with efficient and effective solutions. For Parkside to do this we need your help. So please, if you are not involved yet, consider joining our board or one of our commit- tees, or even just stopping by the office to learn more about how you too can be a part of making our com- munity a great place to live, work and play for the next 50 years. There is certainly a lot to celebrate at our upcoming 50th Anniversary Gala, and I hope to see many of you there this December.
