I know that I promised complete Az Open results this month. Don’t look for them, as they are not there. Still working on that. On the other hand, there is a lot of content this month. So much that we had to wait on the results from the events that took place the last week of March. Speaking of the content this month, glance over to the left side and look under contributors this month. I want to thank each and every one of them for the help they have provided. Check out the article on page 26 about the expansion planned at Stinger’s. With rooms closing all over the valley, it is nice to see one doing well enough to expand. I would like to give a big welcome to Tiny Soldier Embroidery and Screen Printing. Any teams still looking for shirts for Vegas should give Janell a call. -Mike

We had another successful 8 and under 9 ball tournament at Stingers on March 10th & 11th. 36 Players came out to support Jimmy and Jen-elle’s tournament with a prize pool of $2490.00.

The structure was the same as last month, how-ever this month we added a 6 and under side pot. Out of the 36 total players, 18 were 8’s, 13 were 7’s and 5 were 6’s.

Robin Clark showed he can hold his own as a 6 and finished in 7/8th place winning $40 + $50 for the 6 and under side pot. Bill Vander Weyst (8) also finished in 7th/8th place receiving $40.

Chris McCreary (8) took 5th/6th place after losing 3-8 to Donald Mangahas (8). Sharing 5th/6th place was Brian Reich (8), Brian lost to Ben Sutherland (8) 8-4. Chris and Brian both received $85 each for their finish.

After Donald beat Chris he went on to face Ben. Ben had lost his 1st match and was fighting through the one loss side and not about to stop now. He beat Donald 8-0, Donald took $190 for 4th place.

Over on the winner side, both Jason Polk (8) and John Pegnam (8) had been playing well. When it came time to play each other to see who was going to land the hot seat, John was out to get it. He beat Jason 8-1 and sent him over to face Ben on the one loss side.

This time it looked like Ben’s winning streak was over, he lost to Jason 8-0. Ben received $320 for 3rd place.

Jason and John decided to split first and second instead of playing out the final set. John was not

in the $30 WTA side pot, so they split the $1260 giving each $630. Jason left with the most because he entered the $30 WTA ($420). As always, Jimmy and Jenelle really appreciate you all who come out each month to support our monthly tournaments. Also, would like to thank Dale for allow-ing us to hold our weekly and monthly tournaments at Stingers. See you all and more next time!!

Total Payouts:

1st/2nd Jason Polk $1050 John Pegnam $6303rd Ben Sutherland $3204th Donald Mangahas $1905th/6th Chris McCreary $85 Brian Reich $857th/8th Bill Vander Weyst $40 Robin Clark $90

Another Great Turnout at the Stingers Monthly Tournament

Jason Polk, John Pegnam and Ben Sutherland

Hirose Unstoppable at HomeBruce Hirose was unbeatable on March 3rd at the Knobby’s Open 8-Ball event.

Hirose made his way to the match for the hot-seat, with Chuck Par-rill matching him win for win on the other half of the board. Bruce got the hot-seat match off to a good start with an 8-ball break and then finished off the match one game later for the 2-0 victory over Parrill.

On the one loss side, Jose Gonzalez turned a 0-1 score against Burt Balancad into a 2-1 win and sent Burt home in 4th place.

The semi-final match between Jose and Chuck was decided in the first rack when an early mistake by Jose led to Parrill running that rack for the 1-0 lead. Jose would break and run the next rack, but Parrill did the same in the third rack for the 2-0 win.

Parrill knew he would have to beat Hirose twice to earn the title in this one, but he wouldn’t even be able to move a bead in his favor as Hirose won the first (and only) set of the finals 2-0.

Total Payouts (Including Sidepots)1st Bruce Hirose $2602nd Chuck Parrill $1403rd Jose Gonazalez $704th Burt Balancad $20

The fi rst event of the Arizona Women’s Billiard Tour (AWBT) 2012 season was held March 3rd& 4th at BullShooters in Phoenix, AZ. The game was 9-ball on the 9’ tables. The fi nals saw Angel Paglia win 9-7 over a very tough Stacy Novakfrom Huntington Beach, CA. In addition to her tournament title, Angel won the paid qualifi er spot into the Women’s Professional Billiard As-sociation’s (WPBA) US Open.

We were happy to see twenty-nine ladies from all over the southwest and even Minnesota sign up on Saturday. Along with the regular entry fee, eleven of those players put up another $50 to be eligible for the WPBA US Open qualifi er spot.

Highest fi nisher would receive a $500 paid entry into the US Open in Tulsa, OK, June 6-10. BullShooter’s added $300 to the main event prize fund and friends of the AWBT added an additional $200. Our newest sponsor this year is Jose Gonzales, a longtime valley “A” player, and owner of Las Glorias Grill. Jose graciously added another $100, for a total of $600 added to the main event prize fund.

After a long day of matches on Saturday, eight players would earn the right to come back on Sunday. The two match-ups in the one-loss bracket were Kristin Haney vs. Susan Wil-liams and Nina Tagley vs. Sara Miller. In the winner’s bracket it was Stacy Novak vs. Susan “Madhatter” Mello and the match everyone was waiting to see; Angel Paglia vs.last season’s tour champ Rebecca Wagner. In a close match Angel won 7-6. She followed that up with a 7-5 win over Stacy to earn the hot seat. On the one-loss side, Nina Tagley was on a roll. After losing her fi rst round match to Stacy Novak, she won 6 matches in a row playing some great 9-ball.

Kristin Haney put an end to her streak by winning the match 7-5. Nina had to settle for a real nice fourth place fi nish.

Lenny Marshall of ontherailtv.com/ was streaming on the internet all day Sunday. The audience was treated to a great ex-ample of game management in the semi between Stacy and Kristin. Time and again Stacy came to the table looking at a ball and a rail. No pocket. She maintained her composure to lay down many great safeties to stay in the match. Kristin Haney who is a very aggressive straight shooter took on a few too many tough shots rewarding Stacy’s patience. Final score 7-5 Stacy.

The fi nal match was one race to 9 with alternate breaks. Angel and Stacy traded games until 5-3. Angel who has played several years on the WPBA was showing all the skills she has developed playing with the WPBA Tour ladies and looked like she was going to run away with the title. But she made a few costly errors. Stacy showing why she belongs, took full advantage, ran out and crept back into the match. At 8-7 Stacy scratched on a tough 3 ball. Angel coolly ran out the rack to win the title and another shot at the WPBA Tour. Congratulations to Angel on some great 9-ball.

The Second Chance tournament on Sunday had 9 play-ers. June Maiers of Minnesota came to the desert for the WPBA Qualifi er. Two heartbreaking 7-6 losses put her out of the main tournament. Never the less she was able to win some traveling money ($100) by beating Pat Schultz ($60) 5-3 in the Second Chance fi nal. Mike Bates, owner of BullShooters, added an additional $100 to the Second Chance event bringing his added $ total for the week to $400.

Thanks again to Mike and Julie Bates and their staff for

hosting, adding money to, and having a great pool hall to play in.Thanks again to Jose Gonzales and Las Glorias Grill for his sponsorship,

Thanks to our two secret donors of $100 each. We encourage this type of behavior!

Thanks to Lenny Marshall, of ontherailtv.com/, for his live-streaming on Sunday. The ladies love it!

Thanks to my Co-Director Kristie Ortega and her man Scott Waterhouse for running another great tournament.

Join us for our next stop on the AWBT, April 14-15 at Stingers in Glendale. The format for this event is 8-ball on the 7’ Diamond tables. Consider this a great warm-up for the BCA event in May. Don’t forget to bring a friend!

APA players returned this week from Vegas where they attended the 2012 8 Ball Southwest Chal-lenge Tournament held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. 199 three player teams from all over the Southwest competed for $30,000 in Cash at this popular annual event. 4 of our 11 Phoe-nix teams made it to the money rounds which paid down to 33rd place. Our highest placing team made it all the way to 5th and won $900, which more than paid their entry fee and rooms. Greg Vannoni, Tashana Williams, and Gary Wheeler, whom all play on the same team in our Main Street Billiards Thursday night division, played very strong to secure the 5th place spot. $3500 was paid for 1st place to a San Gabriel, California team. Everyone had a great time playing in both the main event and the all night mini tournaments. There were vendors there to take care of the player’s equipment and accessories, as well as souvenirs from the event.

In October APA will host the 9 Ball version of this same event at the same loca-tion in Vegas. It will be the same 3 person team format except the game will be 9 Ball instead of 8 Ball. Teams can start signing up in August so anyone inter-ested in playing contact Doug or Gina Nowlin from APA Phoenix Metro.

APA’s Junior Division held their tri-annual “Junior/Adult” tournament on March 18th at Bullshooters in Phoenix. “This tournament is becoming one of the most popular tournaments that we run” said Gina Nowlin, APA league Operator for Maricopa County. “Both the ju-niors and the adults have a great time playing together as a team”, she said. This event is a great way that parents and kids can spend an afternoon together having a good time doing something that’s fun and safe. The Juniors Division began just 2 years ago and has grown to 26 members. Ac-cording to Gina it has become so popular and grown so fast that they have had to split it into 2 divisions. The older kids play in the “Young Guns” division that includes players from ages 11 to 17. The younger group, dubbed “Junior Guns” consist of shooters under the age of 11. The juniors play every other Sunday afternoon at Bullshooters in Phoenix. They play three sessions per year, ending each session with an awards cer-emony, lunch, and then the coveted Junior/ Adult Scotch Doubles Tournament. To enter this tournament the junior gets to pick any adult that they want to play with, or if you are a current member of APA and have a young Gun in your fam-ily that would like to give it a try, you would also be welcome. Just one of the players, the junior or the Adult must be a current member of APA.

Winners for this Spring session in the Junior Guns Division were:Gold Medalists – Tory and Troy ConleySilver Medalists – Selena and Tye WestBronze Medalists – Cameron Gerstner and Claudia Morado

For the Young Guns division it was:Gold Medalists – Brendan and John SmithSilver Medalists – Nicole and Nathan ShelleyBronze Medalists – Jeremy Schneider and James Main

The Billiard Education Foundation or ‘BEF’ has been sponsoring a Junior Na-tional 9 Ball Championship for the past 24 years. This year the tournament will be held in Greenfield Wisconsin. APA Phoenix Metro has been granted 3 slots to the tournament through their appointment program for our junior league. We will be holding a tournament later this month to determine who we will be sending to the National Championship. So far, through tournaments and raffles, the juniors division has raised just over $1000 to help with airfare and room-ing for the 3 participants. You can check the local website at www.apaphx.com for more information on this tournament. You can also check out our ad in this issue for date and time. We would like to invite everyone to come down and support the juniors. They are the future of our sport.

APA Regionals were held March 3rd & 4th at Main Street Billiards in Mesa.

120 APA players from Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada played for their spot at the upcoming National Singles Championships to be held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas later this month. 2 Phoenix players will be representing us at the National tournament. Christine Hanson won the spot in 8 Ball for the 2 & 3 skill level tier. It’s been a long wait for Christine since she was first qualified to play in the spring window of last year but was not able to compete then. She re-qualified this year and now she’s on her way to Nationals. Christine is the perfect example that you don’t have to be a top player in the APA to play in a major event. This is not to say she’s not a good player, in fact since she started playing for us she has improved so much, said Gina Nowlin, the Phoenix area League Opera-tor. Christine and her husband Jeff both play on teams at Bullshooters on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Our other representative will be William Sexton (Will). Will is another player who has greatly improved since he started playing with us. He plays on an 8 Ball division, two 9 Ball divisions, and the Masters division. No wonder he is one of our top players in the league. He will be shooting in the 6 & 7 skill level tier, which is the top level. He’ll have some stiff competition, but we know he can handle it.Phoenix also had several players making “Run-ner Up”. This means that if the Finalist can’t make it to the National Championship, these players will take their place. 8 Ball runner ups were Robert Sikorski, Scott Henley, Abie Padilla,

and Gary Wheeler. Tashana Williams was a runner up in 9 Ball. Finalists from other areas were:

8 BallLeland Allen from AlbuquerqueJason Osborn from Las Vegas Tommy Graham from Las Vegas Ryan Kopke from TucsonRon Ybarra from Tucson

9 BallJames Carmona from Las Vegas Sondra Faith Friestad from Las Vegas

The APA holds two Regional tournaments every year. Each Regional event features players from around the Southwest region, or in some cases, other parts of the country. These players qualify to play in their Regional event by playing in a local qualifier from the player’s area. In Phoenix we hold local qualifier boards periodi-cally throughout the year. They are usually combined with our monthly tournaments but can also be held indi-vidually. Players advance after winning a local qualifier board to the Regionals, and then on to the National Sin-gle Championships held in Las Vegas. Rooms and entry fees into the tournament are paid for the winners. They are also given travel assistance to Las Vegas. Contact your local APA League Operator if you are interested in playing in a regional or National event. APA also has two Jack & Jill Scotch Doubles teams that will be playing at the National Championships this month. Karloz Chavez and Jamie Goodwin qualified for this event at our annual “Valentine Day Jack and Jill Scotch Tournament”. Tim and Nancy Witts Qualified by winning the Jack and Jill Scotch Doubles Division that is played at Bullshooters each Friday evening. We wish all players that will be competing at our Na-tional Single Championships in Las Vegas lots of luck.

The 8th Annual Ameri-can CueSports of Ari-zona State Tournament kicked off on Friday, March 9th with the

singles event at 6pm. We had a full bracket of eight ladies. Teresa Eibner (Sharks League) won the hot seat with wins over Jodi Hirning, Maria Simonson and Patience West. After being sent to the one loss side, Maria beat Sara Sorg, Claudia Morado and Patience to come back and face Te-resa for the final. The first set went hill/hill with Mari being the winner and sending the match to the next set which again went hill/hill, this time Teresa winning.

In the men’s event we had 20 entrants. Richie Daniels (Barefoot Bobs League) won the hot-seat with wins over Ken Holgate, Bob Soto and Adam Payan. On the one loss side, Bob Soto has wins against Ron Gilette, Ronnie Vires and Adam Payan. The finals had Richie & Bob in a battle with Richie being the undefeated winner.

On Saturday, the team events kicked off. Because there were only four ladies teams, we played a round robin format with each team playing the other three teams and the two teams with the most wins playing a final match to determine a winner. The final match came down to the Deli Avengers vs Connolly’s Pounders with the Deli Avengers winning the title of ACSA Ladies Team Champions.

The men’s/open team event saw five teams fight it out for the title. The Barefoot Hot Shots won the hot-seat with wins against the Deli Champs, 43rd Tavern Rumors & Runners Collective. After losing their first match, the Deli Champs went

through the one loss side with wins over GLADD, 43rd Tavern Rumors & Runners Collective. Once again, these two teams faced off for the title. The first match went to the Deli Champs in a 13-7 win, sending the match to the final. Barefoot Hot Shots got serious and in an exciting back and forth match, finally won 13-10.

The ACSA wants to thank Bullshooters for host-ing and adding money to our prize fund. Thanks to the whole staff for all of their help in making this a successful event.

Free Trip to Vegas For Half of ALL Players

Dallas, TX, Friday, March 15, 2012: Scott Willoughby, General Manger of Pool300, announces the launch of, “Win a Trip to Vegas Leagues.” Starting June 1, 2012, all Pool300 Leagues will be competing to win trips to play in the BCA National Team 8 Ball Championships at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

Most competing Pool Leagues either don’t offer a paid trip to their National Championship or reward a very small percentage of their teams, usually 5% or less. Pool300 will reward 50% of the teams in each league with a trip that includes roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations at the Rio Hotel and Casino, and entry fee into the tournament.

In POOL300, clearing the table in order without missing gets the shooter a strike. Clearing the table with one miss is a spare. POOL300 is 100% offense. When it’s your turn, you’re shooting for yourself, not directly against another player. Players are handicapped in the same way as bowling so beginners can compete against accomplished players and still have a chance to win.

For complete details go to http://www.pool300.com or to get a league started contact Scott Willoughby at 855-TRY-POOL300.

The Arizona Ratings Committee held it’s semi monthly meeting on March 4th at Tom Ryans.

We would like to congratulate the following players who were raised at that meeting.

Tom Dauphine - 5 to 6Roy Maxteo - 4 to 5Geff Olson - 5 to 6Jeremy Gibbs - 6 to 7Joseph Farias - 5 to 6Ben Olson - 5 to 6Tom Lee - 5 to 6Jenelle Hodgkins - 4 to 5Mike Bernardi - 7 to 8Billy Lee Collins - 7 to 8Angel Paglia - 8 to 9Chad Lovelace - 6 to 7Tori McCauley - 5 to 6Chris M. Carpenter - 6 to 7Cathy Thomas - 5 to 6Veronica Poore - 5 to 6Donna Taylor - 5 to 6Marcy Thomas - 5 to 6Micha Fackiner - 6 to 7Oscar Avila - 7 to 8Jim Digregoria - 5 to 6

Hopefully all of these players are settling into their new ratings and see this rat-ings change as it was intended, a belief by their peers in each player’s ability to play better than their previous rating.

The next ratings committee meeting will be at the Deli Sports Bar on June 10th.

Ratings Committee Changes Carpenter Repeats Deli WinChris Carpenter doubled up by win-ning the Deli Sports Bar’s Weekly 9’s & Under 8-ball event twice in March.

On March 3rd, Car-penter ran through a fi eld of 31 other players for the win. Carpenter took the hot-seat with a win over Adam Payan. Ed Scott came through the one loss side to challenge Carpenter in the fi nals, but a well played safety by Carpenter resulted in ball-in-hand and the tournament win over Ed.

With the “race to one” format, a back to back winner is pretty rare, but Carpenter skipped the March 10th event and then came back to win again on March 17th over a fi eld of 19 other players.

Carpenter earned nearly $400 in prize money between the two events. Not bad for a $6 entry tournament.

The event takes place every Saturday night with sign-ups starting at 7:00 and matches starting at 7:30. The “race to one” format assures that players will be done shooting before things get real late and the $6 entry fee makes sure you don’t spend a fortune in the event.

The Arizona Federation of Dart Associations held their State Team and Singles Champion-ships at the Blue Water Casino in Parker, Az on March 3rd.

This event includes a round robin team competition between the best teams from eleven different leagues, as well as singles events for Men and Ladies.

The Team Event was won by the Southern Arizona Darting As-sociation (SADA), out of Tucson, with the Scottsdale Darts Asso-ciation taking second place.

Both of these teams would also be well represented in the singles divisions, as Franke Carrasco from the Southern Arizona Dart-ing Association defeated Rich Finn (Arizona Dart League) for the Men’s Singles title.

Lisa Yee (Scottsdale Darts Asso-ciation) was the only person who kept the Southern Arizona Dart-ing Association from sweeping all three events as she defeated Cris Fromam from Tucson in the Ladies Singles Championship.

Masters Dart LeagueSeason # 59 of the Master’s Dart League is in the books and on May the 14th we will draft for the historic 60th Season.

It was a wild last night of the season, that sent the 3rd place team to the top and the 6th place team into the money in 4th place.

Mac’s Mashers were up to the task the last night thoroughly beating Martinez’s Madmen and moving from 3rd to 1st.

Led by Captain Tom McCartney and the resurgence of League MVP Rik Scherbing, the Mashers made the jump for the $2,000 payout. Corey Timmer-man and Dave Hild rounded out the squad for the Champs.

Ricks Rampagers were one week away from going box to wire for the victory, but Thad’s Thumpers played them tough and the 11 – 10 score was enough for the Mashers to win.

The Rampagers were 2nd and Thumpers third. Bob’s Bangers came from dead last after five weeks and with a commanding 17 to 4 win over Kix’s Krushers, made it to the money in fourth place. Season 60 should be one to remember as each player in the A and B Masters will receive a 60th Season shirt and Hat.

The league has spanned 22 years and is thought to be the #1 league in the coun-try as no less than 26 players have made NDA team USA and many have won numerous World and National titles.

You can sign up by contacting Troy Vending at 602-265-0178 or Mike Bates at 602-574-3105.

Mike , who are the best play-ers you have played with and against?

Wow, you really want me to get in a lot of trouble on this one….

Let’s start from the beginning,Before Moses, I was very for-tunate to be very good right off the bat when I started.

First I played a guy named Joe Palmer, who was the toughest I played in the fi rst few years of playing. There were lots of great players around then, but most were sticking to steel darts.

Four or fi ve years later a young

kid shows up,and I am thinking can this guy really play darts? It was John Gray and early on we had some great matches and I usually won. After a few more years he was nearly unbeat-able on every level.

Along with John in the “Brat Pack”, were Richie Finn and Brad Halley. For several years these three dominated most of the tournaments in the area, soft and steel tip. I really believe that these three opened the door that has never been closed in the soft tip dart world.

By the mid 90’s, Lucky Newbury, Eric Barron, and others had moved here and they were great shots.

Soon to follow were Tom McCartney, Rick Kerska and David Fatum. Add

to that, guys like Nick Rivera, Bob Castillo, Don Henson, Chuck Timmer-man, Dan Wilson and others, Arizona became the hot bed for soft tip darts.

You also had top notch players like Chicago Bob, Tom Slivka and Tom Reilly and you had shooters coming out of the woodwork. We also had one of the best ever in Jimmy Damore move here and fl aunt his talents.

In the last few year we were lucky to see guys like JC Martinez, Rick Breckinfelder, Kix Alcala, and Mar-tin Bedoni move up to the “I can beat anybody level.” Throw in seasoned players like Thad Uraine, Dave Wil-derman, and Rik Scherbing and you’ve got even more.

Every guy I have mentioned has done

great things with darts and has lots more to come.

I have also been fortunate to play with great like Paul Lim, Darin Young, Stacy Bromberg and more. In one day playing with Darin and Stacy, we beat Big Dog, John Kaczinski, John Part, Ray Carver and my favor-ite Scott Kirshner. It doesn’t get any better than that.

There are many more players and lots of great times playing with and against them. It has been an honor and a pleasure to do so.

These are my thoughts and I could be wrong, but I doubt….

Feltman Wins One Pocket MadnessBullshooters’ One Pocket Madness event in March was another suc-cess with a full field of sixteen players and three play-ers (includ-ing tourney director Tres Kane) being turned away.

This event was won by a relative newcomer to the handicapped one pocket events, yet still no stranger to the game.

Sun City’s Paul Feltman took the hot-seat with a win over Bernie Pettipiece and then defeated Pettipiece again in the finals after Bernie eliminated Rod Elliott on the one loss side..

Paul considers himself more of a 3 cushion player, but played many hours of partners one pocket at the Sun City Rec Center with San Jose Dick McMoran. All of that one pocket experience showed on this day. As all readers know, Pettipiece is no one pocket pushover, and to defeat him twice in one day is an accomplishment.

Although he won the event, Feltman actually earned less than Pettipiece with the side pots.

Final Payouts:1st Tom Feltman Sr. $2302nd Bernie Pettipiece $250 with side pot3rd Rod Elliott $1104th Eric Young $70

Bernie Ices Frost at Kolby’sIn a field that included such notables as Scott Frost, Gus Bris-eno, Lenny Marshall and Brett Huth, it was Bernie Pettipiece that was the man to beat at the March Preacher Ronn’s One Pocket event at Kolby’s Corner Pocket in Tempe on March 24th.

Pettipiece took the hot-seat with a hill-hill win over Rod Elliott. Elliott had just defeated Scott Frost in the winners side final four, but Pettipiece was too much for him in this match.

On the one loss side, Frost bounced back with wins over Eric Young, Tucson’s Joe Watson and then Elliott to earn a shot at Pettipiece in the finals.

The final match between Pettipiece and Frost went as most one pocket fans would expect with only one small detail different. The match was highlighted by aggressive ball pocketing, pinpoint banks and precise position play. If you had expected this display to come from the cue of Frost, you would have been mistaken though. Only the first game of the match was close with Pettipiece winning 7-6. The next two games saw Pettipiece keep Frost stuck in the chair as he scored two 7-0 victories for first place.

Total Payouts:1st Bernie Pettipiece $2202nd Scott Frost $1253rd Rod Elliott $65

All of us here at the Arizona Billiard and Dart News would like to congratulate Ray Robles and Mike Sandoval who, along with their partners, both became parents recently.

Ray “The Big Cat” Robles, and his lovely wife Christine, welcomed Gemma Theresa Robles into the world at 2:36 AM on March 7th.

A week before that, Mike Sandoval and his girlfriend Teanna Earle brought Michaela Leigh Sandoval into the world. Michaela weighed in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces and was almost 19 inches long.

Both young ladies are said to be doing fi ne and most likely getting tired of being doted on by their proud fathers.

While neither Gemma or Michaela have been seen in action at any of the local rooms, most believe that they are hiding from the ratings committee and will make an appearance when the added money is high enough.

Skip & Jan’s 3-Man Split

Ten 3-Man teams came to do battle for over $1,500 in prize money as Skip & Jan’s Three Man 9-ball event on March 24th.

The hot seat match found Team Scrappy Choco (Steve Sowers, Steve Hender-son, Donald Mangahas and Robert Berry) facing off against Team No Flash Photography ( Jerry Stuckart, Carlos Avalos and Brian Poore). After a tense and grueling match, No Flash Photography claimed the hot-seat.

After coming through the loser side, Team WTF ( Elias, JR and Alfonso) did battle with Team Scrappy Choco for 3rd place. Team WTF ended up in 3rd place claiming $150.

The finals were a rematch of Team Scrappy Choco and No Flash Photography. After Scrappy Choco won the first match the players considered the lateness of the hour and decided to split with each team taking home $690.

As always, Natalie and her staff provided a great venue, great food and excel-lent service. This is the first three man event in many years in Phoenix. Hope-fully it won’t be the last.

Stinger’s Adds Space and More Diamond Tables

Stinger’s Bar & Grill at 43rd Ave & Peoria, has acquired the empty store front next door and is in construction to add an additional 2,800 square foot of space to the existing 7,000 square foot room.

With this new addition, they have decided to move all the Poker Tables, Dart Boards and Karaoke into the new room along with adding a second bar. With all of that moving over to the new section, it opens space in the main room to add additional pool tables.

The configuration was changed around to be more pool friendly. They have added two more 7’ Diamond Bar Tables and are bringing in 2 Brand New 9 foot Diamond Tables.

We are looking forward to checking out the new layout and taking advantage of the added space.

Tommy Gunn shot down Brian Poore for the hot-seat at Kitty’s March 7’s and Under 9-ball event, but it was Brian who had the last laugh.

As expected in a match between two players at the top of their ratings, Tommy Leutz and Brian Poore’s match for the hot-seat was a close one. In the end, it was Leutz scoring the hill-hill win.

On the one loss side, Poore had Bernie Stor to deal with. That turned out to not be much of a challenge as Brian cruised to a 7-2 win. That earned Poore another shot at Leutz in the finals.

The first set of the finals was all Brian, and he scored a very lopsided 7-1 win to force a second set.

The second set was another battle as neither player was willing to give an inch. Leutz was able to earn the match’s first two rack lead at 4-2, but Poore quickly came back and tied the score at 4-4. The score was tied again at 5-5, before Poore dug down and took the final two games for the 7-5 win.

Kitty’s 12 & Under Double Dip

Eighteen scotch doubles teams came to Kitty’s on March 17th, ready to vie for over $1,000 in prize money at the March 12 & Under Scotch Event..

The hot-seat match found Mel Kirsch and Allen pitted against Brian Poore and Jesse Gardella. After a hard fought match, Brian and Jesse claimed the hot seat.

Coming through the one loss side, Dennis Winkler and Butch Long faced Mel and Allen for 3rd place. After a great match, Mel and Allen claimed 3rd place and $ 130 in prize money.

After a grueling day, Dennis and Butch found themselves facing Brian and Jesse for 1st and 2nd. Dennis and Butch were not to be denied and they double dipped Brian and Jesse to claim 1st and take home $590. For their efforts, Brian and Jesse took 2nd and brought home $ 350.

As always, Kitty and her staff provided a great venue and excellent service.
