(Continued from page 1) After denying Jesus three times, Peter the Apostle cried profusely and

remorsefully for not standing by Jesus at a critical time. His tears

brought him God’s mercy. Judas, who betrayed Jesus, was so

frustrated afterwards and he failed to discover the mercy of God and

he ended up in an acute despair that led him to take his own life by

hanging himself.

People who come humbly to God obtain His mercy. The Publican

who stood far off in prayer and said, “Lord, be merciful to me a

sinner” (Luke 1813). Bartimaeus the blind man saw Jesus passing by

and shouted, “Jesus Son of David, have pity on me!” (Mark 10: 46-

47). St. Paul calls himself the commander in chief of all sinners.

(1 Timothy 1: 15). When St. Augustine left his old way of life and

returned to God, he humbly and prayerfully said, “God, I entrust my

past to Your mercy, my present to Your grace and future to Your

providence.” In this crisis of Coronavirus pandemic, let us put our

present and future situation in the hands of God by simply asking the

Lord to have mercy and compassion on us. The Lord certainly gives

his people a special invitation and assurance of forgiveness in the book

of Isaiah— “If your sins be as scarlet, they shall be made white as

snow.” (Is. 1: 18)

The second reading this second Sunday of Easter from the Acts of the

Apostles describes the communal life of the early Christian

community in Jerusalem. “Koinonia” (fellowship, brotherhood,

communion) should be an important element in the life of Christians

of all ages. Faith, like love is constantly exposed to the temptation of

doubt and indifference. We need the support of one another in this

time when Coronavirus is threatening the whole universe. In this

difficult moment, you are very fortunate and blessed if you have/

belong to a family or community where Christian fellowship is part of

family life, where the members in their quarantine and solitude pray

together, read the Bible together, practice the Christian values of love,

justice, mutual respect, decency, and concern for one another. In

communities or families where these values exist, the members of the

family or community are trees planted on the sea shore that its leaves

will ever remain green. (Genesis: 17-19, Mathew 13)

My dear brothers and sisters, during this time of crisis and calamity,

both local and nationally caused by Covid -19, fellowship should be

part and parcel of every Christian community. However, this

fellowship could pose a problem in a large and multicultural parish.

We need to work for this noble goal. We need belonging! Parish

Council and Financial Council should be active and creative in finding

the avenues to make the community a place of love and brother/

sisterhood, where everyone is the “first born.” At meetings, contribute

to the value of “belonging” for all. Listen, be open to others, remove

bias and prejudice, exchange ideas and experience, share time and

talents. Remember, “The brethren of early Christian community,

devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the

communal life.” This should be the model for every contemporary

Christian community.

Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Pray the Rosary!

¡Reza el Rosario!

My dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, I hope this message finds you and your loved ones healthy and well. During this Easter season, as an Easter people, it is our duty to attend to our less fortunate brothers and sisters. St. Paul tells us that we must, “Bear our share of hardship for the Gospel.” In living a Catholic Christian life, we are asked to make sacrifices for the good of others and for the good of the Church. In light of the current situation regarding COVID-19, the words of St. Paul seem increasingly important. Many parishes will experience financial hardship in the near future, and most will struggle to meet critical needs. I understand that the financial circumstances of many of our families are uncertain, but please know of my deep gratitude for whatever you can contribute to support our Church during this challenging time. If you would like to sign up for monthly parish giving, you can do so at [email protected] and if you would like to make a gift to the Cardinal’s Appeal to support the broader needs of our Archdiocese, you can do so at https://cardinalsappeal.org/donate. I am truly grateful for your generosity. Please know that I will continue to pray for those infected with COVID-19, those caring for the sick, and those that are the most vulnerable among us. I ask that you please pray for me as well. God bless you! With gratitude and in union of prayers, Father Ambrose
