For those who would like to support this very special ministry, but are not able to work on the site, we would appreciate your prayers for the successful build of this home. We will also be accepting financial donations to help defray our parish’s cost to build the house. LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, We are at the doors of Holy Week beginning this weekend with Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion. At all the Masses we will share the Gospel from Matthew, with the Passion account. We do this long Gospel each year on Passion Sunday so that we might again become acquainted with the events of the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So this Passion Sunday is the beginning of a special week for the Church and our parish. Please check the parish website for all the details of the special days we will gather in Church to remember. You may want to make these special days, called the Triduum [Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Saturday Vigil, Easter Sunday] a Lenten retreat. There are many Biblical stories to hear and pray with, actions that inspire such as the washing of the feet, the veneration of the Cross, the procession in Church with the Blessed Sacrament, the procession into Church with the new Easter fire, baptismal washing in the font, Holy Eucharist—so many deeds and actions that teach, and bless us. When the Triduum begins on Holy Thursday night, Lent ends. It does not mean that our Lenten Penances are finished, but rather we have entered a more deeper part of the Lenten experience. We are to “drop out” from the normal culture for these special days, so as to be more available to God in Christ. We clear the decks, as it were, to make room in our lives for the Christ. So, come to St. Jean Vianney for this special week and be blessed. All the details about Holy Week can be found on the parish website, on the large poster board in Church and in the parish bulletin. Again, bring your children and grandchildren. I see that the School play will be this weekend. Details about the play are available at the parish school. From what I’ve seen in Fr. Engels Hall, it has something to do with the ocean and ships!!! On Wednesday of this coming week, Bishop Muench will join most of the priests and deacons of the diocese to celebrate the Diocesan Chrism Mass, during which the oils for the sick, for the anointing of catechumens [unbaptized] and the oil of Chrism [used for baptisms, confirmations and ordination to priesthood] are blessed. The Mass is Wednesday, April 20th, 10:30am at the Cathedral. You are invited to attend. I look forward to sharing Holy Week with you.

VOCATION Blest are they who come in the Name of the Lord! Are you being called to proclaim Jesus as a priest, brother or sister? If so, call Fr. Matt Lorrain at 225.336.8778, [email protected], or visit, www.diobr.org/vocations.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY NEWS Blood Drive Coordinators Needed Blood supply in our community is a very important resource to the medical services provided by our area hospitals and to our parishioners. Our parish has been committed for more than 15 years to assisting in blood replacement through hosting three blood drives annually, in the fall, early spring, and mid- summer. We presently are in need of a few people to help with coordinating these drives which occur on Sundays between 6:45am and 2:00pm. It’s a commitment of three Sundays a year, with some preparation time on the front end of each drive. Our next drive is for OLOL Hospital in July. If you think you may be interested in helping with this very important ministry and would like more information, please call Lori at 753.7950.

CATHOLICS COME HOME This week we celebrate Palm Sunday, when Jesus triumphantly entered into Jerusalem and endured the passion for our sake. We hear the account of the Last Supper and the institution of the Eucharist, when Christ: the sacrificial lamb gives us his Body and Blood so that we might participate in the “new and everlasting covenant.” How doses the Eucharist strengthen the community: What do Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection mean for me? It is possible to read more information about the Eucharist and the Paschal Mystery in Chapters 8 and 17 of the US Catholic Catechism for Adults.

TOGETHER BATON ROUGE HOUSE MEETINGS – HUGE SUCCESS!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Together Baton Rouge gathering on April 3rd. More than 140 community minded individuals representing six churches in the Baton Rouge area met to share their stories – stories that bind us together, that challenge us, and humble us. Our parish’s TBR Target Group will evaluate and invite new members to look at possible issues we may want to address in our community. We are grateful for the generous support of our parish’s Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus, and Catholic Daughters for providing a delicious meal for everyone to enjoy.
