A. Proclamation Designating April 25, 2014, Arbor Day
DESIGNATING APRIL 25, 2014 AS ARBOR DAY In 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and WHEREAS, This holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and WHEREAS, Trees can reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife; and WHEREAS, Trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, wood for our homes, fuel for our fires and countless other wood products; and WHEREAS, Trees in our city increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify our community; and WHEREAS, Trees, wherever they are planted, are a source of joy and spiritual renewal. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Richard W. Meehan, Mayor of the Town of Ocean City, Maryland, do hereby proclaim April 25, 2014 as ARBOR DAY in the Town of Ocean City, Maryland, and I urge all citizens to celebrate Arbor Day and to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands, and FURTHER, I urge all citizens to plant trees to gladden the heart and promote the wellbeing of this and future generations. Town of Ocean City, Maryland Pay, Classification and Benefits Study
The Town of Ocean City is seeking proposals from qualified and experienced vendors to provide a pay, classification and benefits study in conformity with the requirements detailed in the Proposal Documents. Proposal documents for the Pay, Classification and Benefits Study may be obtained from the Town of Ocean City’s Human Resources Department by either e‐mailing the Human Resources Director, Wayne Evans, at [email protected] or by calling 410‐289‐8822 during normal business hours, or via our website, http://oceancitymd.gov/City_Manager/bids.html. Vendors are responsible for checking this website for addenda prior to submitting their bids. The Town of Ocean City is not responsible for the content of any Proposal Document received through any third party bid service. It is the sole responsibility of the vendor to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the Completed Proposal Documents. Questions are due, by e‐mail, no later than Tuesday, March 25th at 12:00 p.m. local time, submitted to Wayne Evans as detailed above. No further questions will be accepted after this date. Sealed Proposal Documents are due during normal business hours until 4:30 PM, Monday April 14th, 2014 and will then be opened and read aloud at the Work Session Meeting the following day at 1:00 PM, Tuesday April 15th, 2014. ISSUE(S): Discussion pertaining to bus fare change. SUMMARY: Staff recommends that the bus fare option of “$1.00/boarding”
be eliminated thus resulting in a single fare system of “$3.00/ride all day”.
FISCAL IMPACT: FY14: Increased revenues of +/- $ 78,000
FY15: Increased revenues of +/- $492,000 RECOMMENDATION: To proceed with advertisement of the staff recommended change
with a proposed implementation date of May 23, 2014. ALTERNATIVES: 1) Make no change at this time.
2) Consider alternative fare structures that could be implemented for the summer of 2015.

OCEAN CITY MUNICIPAL BUS SERVICE
Notice is hereby given that Ocean City Transportation submitted a proposal at the April 15, 2014 Work Session
of the Mayor and City Council to eliminate the $1 per-boarding fare on municipal fixed route buses and
complementary ADA para transit service. The proposal was submitted as a means to increase revenue and
reduce the Town’s general fund contribution for municipal bus service in Ocean City, MD.
The purpose of this notice is to: (1) Advise the public of the proposed fare change; (2) Offer an opportunity to
the public to inspect supporting documents; (3) Offer an opportunity to the public to request a public hearing;
(4) Offer an opportunity to the public to submit written comments; (5) Advise the public of the date for the
Public Hearing should it be requested; and (6) Advise the public of the date of implementation should the
proposal be approved.
Proposed Fare Change: Eliminate $1 per boarding fare on Ocean City Transportation fixed route buses and
complementary ADA para transit van service.
