Family Newsletter No. 34 ● May 13 – May 16, 2019

This week, we will learn about pets, including what kinds of animals make good pets for children. They will learn the difference between domestic animals and wild animals.

The children will realize that caring for a pet is a big, time-consuming responsibility.

Pets need clean water, food, and shelter. Some need to be groomed, and many have special needs. Most importantly, pets need to be treated well.

Using a pet to teach your young child to be responsible is not recommended.

A child should not be expected to provide complete care for a pet until they are mature enough to care of themselves. Youngsters need their parent’s help for the care of a pet.

Teaching children to respect and kindly treat all animals will lead to an incredible relationship between a caregiver and its pet for many years.

¡Niños... esta semana aprendamos sobre las mascotas! Los niños aprenderán qué tipos de animales hacen buenas mascotas. También, los niños aprenderán entre los animales domésticos y los animales salvajes. Los niños se educarán sobre todas las responsabilidades de cuidar una mascota. Los animales domésticos necesitan de agua diario, necesitan alimento,

muchos tienen necesidades especiales y lo más importante es que, necesitan ser tratadas bien. Usar una mascota para enseñar a su niño a ser responsable no es recomendable. Ningún niño debe cuidar completamente un animal doméstico, hasta que ellos se pueden cuidarse ellos mismos.

Los niños siempre necesitan la ayuda de sus padres para cuidar una mascota. Los niños pueden aprender a respetar y tratar los animales amablemente. Una mascota y un niño pueden tener una relación increíble por muchos años.

What is the LCAP and What Does It Mean for You?

The Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF)

instituted by Governor Jerry Brown requires that

districts develop a Local Control Accountability

Plan (LCAP). What this means for you is that

schools want to consult with parents and other

stakeholders regarding school and district needs

as part of the planning process to gain valuable

feedback on school programs and needs.

As a result, PUENTE will hold meetings to

consult with stakeholders in regards to sharing

ideas to help all students become successful. Our task is to collectively review goals and discuss

action steps we have taken to implement the goals. We seek feedback on what has worked, what

we should enhance and/or add and we focus on what will improve educational outcomes for our

sub-groups, English Learners, Foster and Homeless Youth, and Educational Disadvantaged

Youth.

Look for updates on upcoming meetings in your newsletters or during our regular morning parent

gatherings, to participate. You can also participate by completing school surveys that will circulate

throughout the academic year.

PUENTE welcomes all parents to attend these meetings, or to complete surveys. We want you to

be a part of the planning process and receive your input on plans in progress. Your valuable

feedback regarding our school’s needs and future direction.

¿Qué es la LCAP y qué significa para usted?

Dear Parents:

We are pleased to confirm your child’s enrollment for the PUENTE Charter School

2019-2020! We are happy that your child will be one of our students beginning in

August and we look forward to an exciting, challenging, and rewarding year together. A

parent or adult guardian must attend a mandatory Parent Orientation, at which time you

will:

review class expectations

review policies and procedures

visit the classrooms

be introduced to the curriculum and instructional materials

review early arrival and breakfast and lunch program

review After-School Enrichment opportunity available from 2:45 pm to 6:00 p.m.

This meeting is extremely important, and your child will not be allowed to attend school

without your participation in the orientation. The mandatory Parent Orientation for

students entering the kindergarten will be on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 6:00 to

7:00 p.m. and will be led by your child’s teacher for the next academic year.

We look forward to having your child with us and to your active participation throughout

the year.

Infinite Campus is a district-wide student information system designed to manage attendance, grades, schedules, assessments and other information about the students in PUENTE Charter School.

You will have access to the “Campus Portal” which is a confidential and secure website that allows parents/guardians to login and view their child's progress in school. There is also an app available for both iOS and Android devices. The goal of the Campus Portal is to create a better partnership between parents and teachers.
