NEW ART EXCHANGE – WHO ARE WE? New Art Exchange (NAE) is a national venue and arts organisation dedicated to promoting and developing culturally diverse contemporary visual and performing arts. We are based in a multi-ethnic neighbourhood Hyson Green, Nottingham, UK. NAE is committed to stimulating new perspectives on the value of diversity within art and society, and we endeavour to engage with subject matter with both local and global relevance. NAE formed in 2003 as a limited company and charity. It launched as a venue in September 2008. NAE is primarily (core) funded by Arts Council England and Nottingham City Council. NAE was created from two pioneering grass roots organisations EMACA and Apna Arts that focussed on African and Caribbean visual arts and on visual and performing South Asian arts respectively. Both organisations had been instrumental in raising the profile of their work through nationally recognized events and initiatives such as the Mela and Black Arts Movement. Since forming, NAE has gained a strong national reputation for commissioning and presenting innovative, experimental work in the visual and performing arts, with a strong programme for young people and families. Since launching to February 2012, the organisation has presented over 50 exhibitions and exhibited 10 times in Europe and across the UK. NAE has delivered over 15,000 participations through our learning programme and our visitors at NAE have been rising steadily on a year-by-year basis. To date NAE has received over 300,000 visitors to the venue. NAE has been involved in several significant partnerships, launching British Art Show 7 in October 2010, we hosted ‘The Clock’ by Venice Golden Lion award winning artist Christian Marclay. NAE’s first major commission Floating Coffins, which two years on from being presented at NAE, was bought by TATE Britain in the summer of 2011. NAE launched 2012 with Pakistan’s leading contemporary artist Rashid Rana. Laurence Fishbourne’s Leisureland Golf In 2009/10 NAE as a venue won five design and architecture awards including RIBA (Royal Instituted of British Architects) National Award, RIBA East Midlands Award, and The City of Nottingham Lord Mayor’s Awards for Urban Design (New Build) & Overall Winner and East Midlands National Civic Trust Award.

Supported by the European Regional Development Fund REAL CREATIVE FUTURES Aim To support the growth of the creative and digital sectors (CDI) in Nottingham and Derby as an important component of the local economy. To reinforce NAE’s position as leaders in developing the creative and digital sectors in the region and local economy. Objective To deliver a programme of business advice and coaching, supported by a programme of workshops and events to a total of 650 individuals and micro businesses in Nottingham and Derby over the period January 2017 to September 2019. Delivery In 2016, a joint consortium bid called the Big House, involving nine partner organisations across Nottingham and Derby, was successful in attracting c£5m European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Arts Council England and partner matched funding to deliver a programme of support to promote increased SME competitiveness. New Art Exchange working in partnership with NBV and Creative Quarter will jointly deliver RCF phase 2 commencing in January 2017 until September 2019, developed along similar programme to phase 1. The project will be delivered through a comprehensive programme of business support advice, coaching, mentoring, workshops, show case events and networking opportunities. NBV Business Solutions have employed a CDI business coach, who will work together with staff expertise from NAE, an externally appointed business coach and a number of selected industry specialists.
