ACCREDITATIONBenefits of LAU being accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (CIHE-NEASC):

Higher academic standards

Greater ease in transferring credits to another institution or applying to graduate school

Increased employability

While LAU is fully accredited, the university has sought out additional accreditation through industry-specific organizations to ensure students receive the highest level of education possible.

PROGRAM ACCREDITATIONThe Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) is officially recognized by the French government, which allows LAU graduates to practice in France and the European Union. In addition, the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), which accredits all architecture programs in the United States, has formally granted the professional degree of Bachelor of Architecture initial candidacy effective 2013.

LAU earned accreditation for its Adnan Kassar School of Business in 2016. Its undergraduate and graduate programs are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The programs are: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Business Studies, B.S. in Economics, B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and Executive Master of Business Administration (E.M.B.A.).

The Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Civil, Computer, Electrical, Industrial and Mechanical Engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Nursing at the Alice Ramez Chagoury School of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

The School of Pharmacy is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). In addition, the university’s Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program is the only one outside the United States of America that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). By virtue of this accreditation, LAU’s Pharm.D. graduates are eligible for licensure as pharmacists in most U.S. states and provinces.

Student GovernanceStudents are represented through the university’s campus, academic, and university student councils. Members of the councils are selected via student elections held each year. These councils provide students with leadership opportunities, and more importantly, a platform to advance the welfare of the LAU student body.

“I am grateful to LAU for recognizing the importance of exposing its students to new experiences and international education. Had it not been for the university’s Student Exchange Program, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to spend a semester at Sciences Po in Paris, one of the best political science institutes in the world. While there, I had the privilege to interact daily with brilliant people, travel through Europe, and grow as an individual. This was an exceptional character-building experience, boosting my confidence and renewing my enthusiasm for my field.”

Amanda Haydar, B.A. in Political Science/International Affairs, LAU Class of 2017.

“ My USP journey in a school that promotes leadership and academic excellence has shaped who I am today. Not only did LAU help me develop vision, patience, respect, persistence and passion, but it also taught me that success is earned with an igniting spirit of service and a relentless pursuit of excellence.”

Fidaa Al Fakih, B.S. in Business Studies, USP scholar, LAU Class of 2014. Alumni Coordinator, U.S. Embassy, Lebanon.

“My experience as a Middle School trainer in this year’s 12th GC LAU MUN changed my life. Not only did it teach me the importance of diplomacy in today’s world but it also gave me a microscopic view of the problems that we are facing today, from wars, genocide, and terrorism, to gender inequality. I was astounded, enlightened and transformed into the person I am today, and the same can be said about my delegates. As American author and speaker, John C. Maxwell, once remarked: ‘A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.’” Nayla Feghali, Trainer, GC LAU Model United Nations, B.S. in Business Studies, LAU Class of 2019.

Outreach and Civic Engagement (OCE)Students at LAU are encouraged to engage with their local community through OCE activities, such as reforestation projects, as well as participation and volunteer opportunities in civil society organizations and public events. OCE also organizes, hosts, and oversees participation in Model United Nations (MUN), Model Arab League (MAL), Model European Union (MEU), and several leadership academies.

Notably, OCE’s activities and events outside of Lebanon include the Global Outreach and Leadership Development Conference in New York, providing students with a chance to learn more about diplomacy first-hand at the United Nations Headquarters. LAU’s MUN has the exclusive authorization to organize both the Global Classrooms International Middle School and High School Conferences in New York.

LAU encourages all students to apply to the university, no matter what their financial situation may be. With more than $30 million allocated for financial aid and scholarships in the upcoming academic year, LAU is committed to helping students fund their education either through scholarships based on academic performance and/or through financial aid based on need.

Financial aid, grants and scholarships are granted based on the financial need and academic qualifications of applicants, regardless of their nationality, race, gender, religion, or ethnicity. Students can receive a combination of financial aid and scholarships covering up to 100% of tuition.

FINANCIAL AID, SCHOLARSHIPS AND COST

“When people hear ‘LAU’ they usually think ‘the most expensive university in Lebanon.’ I used to be one of those people until I compared LAU’s tuition fees with other universities in Lebanon and found it is a myth. With the various financial aid packages available, a great education becomes affordable to all.”

“LAU provided me with more than a bachelor’s degree. It provided me with every opportunity to build my character. Besides receiving the best education in the country, I was able to develop a wide practical and technical skill set through the university’s seminars and workshops, and its employment, and simulation programs, while indulging in my hobby as a member of the music club. In the end, attending LAU’s Career and Internship fair got me my first job. LAU’s mission says it all.”

Yahya Al Hajj, B.S. in Business Studies, LAU Class of 2015. Market Risk Analyst, CSC and shareholder at Cryptoways.

“At LAU, I was able to fulfill my abilities beyond academics. I took part in the LAU GC MUN program in the university as well as various clubs. Through those activities, I took part in seminars, conferences and exchange programs here in Lebanon and abroad. I made a lot of valuable connections throughout my three years as well as lifelong friends. I spent countless hours in the library, which was my favorite place on campus, and there I explored various topics, both directly and indirectly related to my major. Along with the various extracurricular activities, this enriched my experience at LAU and helped me become a well-rounded person. This institution has given me the best of the best. Most importantly, it gave me self-growth” Diala obtained a merit scholarshop that allowed her to study at LAU. She is the first in Lebanon to receive the Rhodes Scholarship,

a prestigious postgraduate award granted to an exceptional student from around the world to study at the University of Oxford.Diala al Masri, Merit scholar, the first Rhodes Scholarship recipient from Lebanon, B.A. in Political Science/International Affairs, LAU Class of 2014.

ALUMNI AND THEIR LAU EXPERIENCE

ALUMNI CHAPTERS AROUND THE WORLD

“Last year, I graduated with the highest possible recognition of a DPhil at Oxford; a thesis commendation from the Divisional Board, which is rarely achieved by Oxford standards. The quality of my work has been recognized at local, national, and international levels through various prestigious awards, fellowships, and travel grants (both from industrial and academic institutions).I attribute my success today, in part, to the excellent education and invaluable support I received at LAU. Above all, the university’s merit scholarship which covered tuition fees I could not afford was a springboard to a better future. With the help of first-rate courses that enabled me to compete at the international level, and the unfailing support of my professors, I ended up obtaining one of the most prestigious scholarships worldwide. I would also give credit to LAU’s invaluable Liberal Arts Education Curriculum which aims at cultivating our personality, knowledge, and perception of the world around us; all of which allowed me to contribute to fields ranging from economics, through history of art, to literature. LAU shaped me, not only into a scientist, but more into a woman of the world!”

Martine Abboud, B.S. in Biology, Minor in Chemistry, Merit Scholar, High Distinction, Winner of The President’s Award, LAU Class of 2013. DPhil in Chemical Biology, University of Oxford, 2016. Currently postdoctoral researcher, University of Oxford.

“I had been passionate about the outdoors from an early age, especially mountaineering. So when it came to choosing a university, my priority was not only its high academic standards but also its extracurricular programs, student clubs, helpful staff, career services and alumni―all of which, I believe, contribute to the strength of an institution. LAU was by far the best option with its wide range of electives and student clubs, in particular its Hiking and Camping Club. Taking part in several outdoor activities throughout my years at LAU was the stepping stone to realizing my dream as a professional climber. Through the Hiking and Camping Club I got to meet new climbing partners, and explore the Lebanese wilderness. Since, my mountaineering achievements have included Mount Elbrus (5,642 m) in the Caucasus range of Russia, and Aoraki/Mt Cook (3,724 m), the highest peak in New Zealand, making me the first Lebanese to ever summit the mountain. As that last expedition was unguided, my climbing partner and I had to handle all the planning, decision making, and the climb itself. LAU nurtured my adventurous spirit, and helped me hone the interpersonal and leadership skills needed to rise to the challenge and fulfill my ambitions.”

Eliya el Khoury, B.S. in Business Studies, LAU Class of 2014. Currently completing M.A. in Environmental Planning, Macquarie University, Sydney.
