A section of approximately 17km of the R545 will have to be moved due this proposed opencast mine that will supply coal to the new Kusile Power Station, currently under construction, just south of the N4 highway. The New Largo coal reserve is located directly east of the Kusile Power Station, 30 kilometres west of Emalahleni, 100 kilometres east of Johannesburg and 20 kilometres north-west of Ogies. The attached background information document (BID) provides more information about the project. The BID is available in English, Afrikaans and IsiZulu. Please feel free to request a copy of the BID in a language of your choice. The documents are also available at http://www.zitholele.co.za/largo or www.synergistics.co.za. It should be noted that Option 2 road route (D432) will have a direct impact on BECSA’s coal ressources with an opencastmine planned in the area. The road runs directly through the center of the Weltevreden coal resource and as such wouldneed to be relocated in 2020 once BECSA commences with its mine in the area.…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………Option 2 (D432) is also flawed in that it currently does not offer one access to the N12 highway.…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
