Check-in and Check-out Procedures Check-in Check-in registration begins at 5:00 pm on Friday April 26th at the Community Safety Pavilion across from the Parking Lots. At check-in, all Troops must submit a Volunteer Sheet and a finalized Troop Registration and Roster Form. Guest Cub Scouts and their accompanying adults must also be listed on the Form. Troops must also present properly completed BSA Medical Form, Parts A&B for every youth and adult attending. Campsite assignments will be provided at check-in. Be aware that each sire will be shared by multiple units, so be friendly and considerate neighbors!

Each unit is asked to provide two or more adult volunteers to act as assistants in program areas. Volunteer Sheet should provide the info requested for each volunteer. Units providing volunteers will receive bonus points towards their event score.

Check-out Check-out will begin at 9:00 am on Sunday, April 28th. Your campsite MUST be inspected by a member of the Camporee Staff before you leave. Prior to inspection, please complete the following:

• Ensure the campsite is litter free.

• Restore your campsite to better than you found it.

• Pack up your gear and be ready to depart.

• Carry out all garbage to be disposed of at home.

• Request a site inspection of a Camporee Staff member.

• Complete, and be ready to submit, a Camporee Evaluation Form.

• Complete the check-out. The check-out sheet will be signed when the inspection is completed. Patches and participation ribbons will then be presented to the Scoutmaster and Senior Patrol Leader.

Parking

Parking is in the Upper and Lower Parking Lots across from the Community Safety Pavilion. This event is expected to fill to capacity and parking is limited so carpooling is strongly encouraged. Troop trailers are discouraged due to the limited parking. Participant cars and troop trailers will not be permitted beyond the parking lots. Spring means soft ground and the roads get heavily damaged by multiple vehicles. Troops will need to carry in their gear to their campsites, so pack light (just like if you are fleeing from a zombie horde)!

Camporee Safe Zone Stations 1. Pyromania: Fire is very good at limiting the spread of the Zombie virus, but steps need to be taken to ensure that the fire does not spread, nor attracts too much attention. Time can be short to get a flame going for warmth, cooking or sterilization, so work fast. Use the items provided at the Safe Zone (magnifying glass, bow& twine, battery & wire, etc) along with materials found in your daypack to invoke a flame. A quick review of burn first-aid will also help you score additional points.

2. Monster Mash: You and your Patrol find yourselves in the midst of a full-fledged Zombie outbreak. Zombies have been seen swarming the area, attacking, and leaving numerous injured. Your Patrol comes across an “Army Mash” unit, being overwhelmed and in chaos. A medic will call upon your patrol to use their first aid training from Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class requirements to help treat a patient. Once the patient has been treated, your patrol will need to make a portable stretcher and move the patient

to the Extraction Point. It’s up to you and your fellow Scouts to administer First Aid and save lives! 3. Sharpshooter: Listen up, Scouts! A critical skill in a zombie apocalypse is safely operating a rifle. If your barricades are overrun by zombified animals, you’ll need to fend them off. We also don’t know when it will be safe to operate supermarkets and processing plants again, so learn how to safely operate a BB rifle. This can put food on your table when surviving in the wild. Practice makes perfect! 4. Archery defense: There is nothing wrong with good ‘ol bows and arrows. They are perfect for hunting and QUIET so they won’t attract a zombie horde while you are hunting for dinner. 5. Tomahawk Toss: Every good survivalist has a trusty tomahawk strapped to their hip or back…right? It is a handy tool for many purposes. It can also be thrown at a target, and accuracy is key. 6. Escape Through Zombie Territory: There are Zombies all around and you need to get from one area to the other without touching the Zombie Barriers or making noise. Work your way through holes in a barb wire web without touching the wire, sounding the alarm and letting the Zombies know where you are.

Move quietly over obstacles (balance beams, short walls, wood rounds, etc) to practice navigating zombie inhabited territory. In this training event, you are challenged to move through the obstacles silently AS A PATROL without triggering bells or noise makers. 7. Undead Head GAGA Ball: The game GAGAball has become infected. Don’t worrying about a ball touching your hand; you have to keep the Zombie head from biting you in the legs. The is a great dexterity exercise to help you evade zombie bites. Patrols compete against each other to see who makes it and who doesn't. Points to the team with the last survivor. (This event will depend on water levels as it’s in a flood area) 8. Shelter building – With the end of the world here, you never know where you’ll be sleeping. Demonstrate creating different kinds of shelters with available materials (trees, branches, leaves, etc) and ones you have with you. If your town is overrun, you might have to head for the hills, so be prepared!

CAMPWIDE GAME Zombie Invasion This event will begin sometime Saturday morning (at the sound of the emergency horn) and will end at 4 PM. Only Scouts can play. To play you must wear the armband at all times. Black (Human) and Green (Zombie) armbands will be given out to all scouts at registration. • All Scouts start as humans by wearing the black armband on upper part of their arm during the day, keeping the Green armband in a pocket. One member of each patrol starts as a zombie - the patrol can choose their victim or a staff member at the first activity Safe Zone will make sure one patrol member is infected. • Safe Zones: All Event Station areas, all Camp Sites and Camp buildings, Bathrooms and 20 feet around each. No tagging is allowed in these areas. • When tagged by a Zombie (Green Armband) a Human (Black Armband) is required to hand over their black armband to the zombie and replace it with the Green armband from their pocket. You are now a Zombie and you can start tagging Humans. Tagging is a firm touch to the arm, shoulder or back (no hitting)! • No cannibalism: You may NOT attack someone from your own troop/patrol. • No running: If you are caught running you forfeit your armbands and the game. Any Leader who sees a scout running can take all of their armbands. • There will be 2 wandering Doctors (unknown adults) that can cure zombies (turn them back into human). You will be required to do a Tenderfoot, Second Class, or First Class Requirement. (Practice your knots!). • There will be 2 wandering Zombie Hunters (unknown adults) who will randomly take armbands from a zombie after tagging that zombie. •Invasion will be over when you hear the horn. Report your name, patrol, passport area count & armband count (if zombie) or living status (if human) to one of the Generals. • You win by being he last remaining human or the Zombie with the most black armbands AND have at least five activity stations in their Defense passport completed. Ties will be broken by how many activities you have attended and total score. If you become a zombie intentionally, that ruins the game for everyone else. • Everyone plays Zombie Invasion to have fun, and the rules only exist because we agree they do. That is why the most important rule is to treat your fellow players with respect, and gracefully accept when you have been tagged. Remember a Scout is Trustworthy and Courteous and we expect you to keep these points in mind while you are playing this game, and most of all have a fun time and be safe.

COOKING COMPETITION Patrols competing must indicate their participation at check-in. The dishes will be judged by the camporee staff at lunch on Saturday. The recipe should be included with every submittal. The hot lunch needs to be prepared as a trail meal using a trail stove or other lightweight cooking method such as foil packets. It must contain the secret ingredient, which is SPAM.

Page 9: Zombie Survival Weekend Mohawk District, TRC Rotary Scout …storage.trcscouting.org/event/docs/12639/zombie_survival... · 2019-04-13 · Zombie Survival Weekend Mohawk District,

Your judges will each sample a small amount of the meal, so factor around half a person’s meal in total for them. Please be aware that poisoning of the staff will not be looked upon favorably and is grounds for disqualification.

Scoring for the cooking competition will be based upon:

• Taste (Just because you are on the run, doesn’t mean you need to eat bland food)

• Lightweight cooking method used (If you dragged in your Dutch Oven, you missed the point.)

• Creativity (Don’t just spice a slab and heat it up. Be creative in your SPAM recipe!)

• Hospitality (Civility and manners, even in an Apocalypse, are very important!)

JUDGING The decisions of the Program Area Staff and Command Staff are final. If concerns regarding judging arise, first address those concerns with our Program Area Staff. If the issue remains unresolved, please bring the concern to the attention of any member of the Command Staff. Please remember, the Camporee is staffed by adult and youth volunteers who are doing their best to execute a complex series of events to the best of their ability. Highlight or circle the previous sentence and show to any Command Staff member for an additional twenty points. Your cooperation and support of this wonderful team of volunteers is greatly appreciated! As you go through the events, you will have your Zombie Defense Passport stamped at each event with the points you have earned. Bring your passport to the Survival Area HQ (Seneca Lodge) at 4:30pm Saturday for scoring. Earning Award Points: Zombie Stations will award points for:

• Performing the skill or activity;

• Working together as a team;

• Demonstrating Scout Survivor Spirit;

• Having the supplies needed for the station. There will be extra points awarded to patrols for the following:

• Troop adults volunteering for the event

• Secret achievements

AWARDS Cooking Competition: The Apocalyptic Chef’s Award will honor the patrol that demonstrates its culinary skills in the face of adversity, since a zombie horde and imminent threats of death is no reason to eat poorly! Zombie Invasion Champions: Who will have the survival skills to be the last remaining human or the Zombie with the most black armbands AND at least five of the Safe Zones in their Defense passport completed? Ties for each side will be broken by random selection. Zombie Apocalypse Survival Patrol Champions: Who will lead the human race to safety and survival in the event of a Zombie invasion? This award will go to the patrol that earns the most points during the day’s events.
