Dear Colleague,
our generation have had the privilege of witnessing some of the most dramaticadvancements and transformations in the history of medicine. The success ofminimally invasive techniques in cardiovascular surgery is changing in anunparalleled way our approach to aortic disease. One equally great and notunexpected change has taken place in the new millennium: the realm of surgicalexcellence, dynamic ideas, innovation and progress has now broadened to the fivecontinents.
In a world of global challenges, healthcare is no exception, however it does have itsunique features: the technological breakthroughs that only profit-driven multinationalcompanies seem able to provide, can’t replace integrity, commitment, andcompassion as the driving force of our profession.
This third edition of our “How to do it” meeting on aortic disease will bring togethervascular, endovascular and cardiothoracic specialists with the anesthesiologiststhat make our effort possible every day. The Congress is a unique occasion forinterdisciplinary discussion. Participants will meet world-class speakers from allcontinents, covering all aspects of open and endovascular aortic procedures. Moreover R&D delegates from industry leaders will provide first hand updates onthe hottest new research projects.
Experts from the four corners of the globe will share their experiences in theSpecial Symposium Global Thinking in Cardiovascular Surgery: “East meetsWest” for a better understanding of how the challenge of cardiovascular disease ismet regardless of the boundaries of cultural, socioeconomic and geographicaldifferences.
Hands-on Workshops will provide exciting training for less experienced colleaguesthat are approaching new state-of-the-art endovascular procedures.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to the International Congress
Aortic Surgery and Anesthesia “How to do it”
to be held on December 11th-12th-13th, 2008 at the San Raffaele Scientific Institutein Milano.

Target Audience
The Congress is designed for Vascular Surgeons, Cardiac Surgeons,Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists and Perfusionists.
Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to: • summarise the natural history, pathology and treatment
options of aortic disease• identify the current surgical trends and treatment for, as well
as recognise the risk factors associated with, aneurysms anddissection
• discuss the newest surgical and device treatments for aorticvalve disease
• describe the state-of-the-art in open surgery for aortic disease• outline the current endovascular treatments available for aortic
disease• identify the latest in hybrid treatment for thoraco-abdominal
and arch aneurysms.
Activity Evaluation
Evaluation by questionnaire will address content, presentation andfuture educational needs.
C.M.E. - Continuing Medical Education
The Italian Ministry of Health and the European AccreditationCouncil will be requested to evaluate the Congress for the C.M.E.of Medical Doctors specialised in Vascular Surgery, CardiacSurgery and Anesthesia. Moreover, the Italian Ministry of Health will be requested toevaluate the Congress for the C.M.E. of Italian Perfusionists.

We want men to live long, healthy livesand for the blood of optimism, creativityand sacredness to flow plentiful andrich through their veins.Sacred, in fact is man, sacred is his life, sacred is his blood.May nobody waste it! May nobodycontaminate it!May all care for him and love him, because in his blood resides the never-ending flow of God’s love; thus,God himself!
