Last Friday Glenwood had a visit from Maria Serafim. Maria is our newly appointed Director of Public Schools. During her visit she took time out to ensure that she visited every classroom and spoke to our wonderful students. The first student she met that morning were asked “What was the best part about Glenwood?” Without hesitation they answered, “Learning”. Well done boys, you represented our school well and shared with Ms Serafim the value that is placed on learning here at Glenwood by not only the teachers but also the students as well. I would also like to share with you two more YouTube clips that will provide you with a little more information about SOLE. You may be aware that Mr Gough, Mrs Tomcyzk and Mrs McInerney have been introducing their classes to Self Organised Learning Environments. These two clips will give you an introduction to this deep, engaging and student centred learning. http://youtu.be/Cc9h-D2hmmY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMv6uW0lECM&feature=share&list=UUr1o4LXMV-mnc-7sZiC1hmw Application is required by mid November 2013 for parents or carers of Year 5 students who wish their children to be considered for placement in Year 7 at a selective high school in 2015. Parents with internet access are requested to apply online. Online applications will be available from 15 October to 18 November 2013. Application information is available on the Department’s internet at: www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement For parents without internet access a limited number of paper application forms will be here at school. Paper applications must be submitted to the student’s school principal by 18 November 2013. Next week I shall be away at the New South Wales Primary Principals Conference. Miss Harper will be acting as Principal in my absence. I look forward to coming back to school and sharing all my new learning. A huge congratulations go to Aryan Kate who has been successful in making the Sydney South West cricket team and will compete at the State carnival this term. A great achievement Aryan! We wish you all the best of luck.

Library News

“Story and a Surprise” K to 2 students thoroughly enjoyed their first “Story and a Surprise” on Monday in the library. The story was “Slinky Malinki” by Lynley Dodd and students received a surprise from the story. There were so many students that I had to make more surprises! I look forward to the next story on Monday at first half lunch.
