On the 27th September
2013 Umsunduzi bridge clinic commemorated Mental awareness day. Program director Mr. N Ncamu, opened with a traditional song and thanked those who at-tended the event.
Rev. J. T Hadebe opened the event by the word of God, after the prayer he appreciated the work that is done by the staff of Msunduzi clin-ic and encouraged them to give love to their pa-tients.
Introduction of guests was done by Mr. Phiwokuhle Xulu from Public Relations Office. It
is very important for those who are ill and those who are mentally disturbed to take treat-ment, It is therefore their family members respon-sibility to encourage and make sure that they take treatment as they are in-structed by the nurses in their local clinics.”
Individuals who are men-tally disturbed sometimes become aggressive, and this usually happens when they avoid taking treatment, those words were said by Sr. Hector who runs the mental health program at Msunduzi clinic she fur-ther encourages and in-
formed the attentive audi-ence that the event was all about mental aware-ness’’ The event could not be complete without the great entertainment from Injabulo group that was formed by mentally challenged patients of Msunduzi Clinic. Every-
one was enjoying the message on the day.
Ms. Ntando Bhengu from Msunduzi clinic lead the group and the crowd was entertained. The great performance from the group really demonstrated that pa-tients adhere to their treatment and are posi-tive in healthy living.

end of the year it is amazing how time passes, we still aim-ing high on maintaining high standard of service delivery and still have much more to improve on.
Although the main challenge of Hlengisizwe CHC is a shortage of space but man-agement has viewed a strate-gic appointment there has been key appointments.
Hlengisizwe CHC has now
balance professional man-power.
Among the names of new re-cruits are: Doctors, Pharma-cists, Occupational Thera-pists, Dietician Quality Co-coordinator and Health and Safety
This strategic employment is strengthening the vision of the institution of delivering service at all levels.

PR: Can you tell us more about yourself?
PM: I am from Kwa Mashu, completed matric at John Dube high, Studied at UKZN and graduated in 2003 with B. degree. I worked at Edendale hospital as an Internship and did community service at Kwa-Mashu Poly Clinic became Pharmacy Manager at Ekombe hospital 2010, I then transferred to Untunjambili Hospital 2011. In 2012 I moved to Hlengisizwe CHC.
PR: What does your job entails?
PM: As a pharmacy manager, I am responsi-ble for overall management of Pharmacy de-partment, I supervise Pharmacist, Pharma-cist assistant, manage pharmaceuticals & non-pharmaceuticals, manage the pharmacy budget, interact with other colleagues, work-ing as a multidisciplinary team.
PR: When confronted with a major decision, how do you approach it
PM: I work hand & hand with health profession-als, I usually take decisions based on facts . I don't believe in taking decisions alone, I usually involves other colleagues and listen to their own point of views.
PR: How do you deal with work challeng-es?
PM: When faced with challenges, I always ask God for the solution as I am a God fearing per-son. I believe everything happens for the rea-son, so I ask for guidance to the all mighty . This helps me to deal with whatever challenges I am faced with. I also ask other people’s opin-ion and suggestions, I am a very quiet person but I thank God that I am not a short tempered person, that is why I manage to deal with chal-lenges.
PR: To young aspiring youth who want to follow your career what advise can you give to them
PM: Believe in yourself, Work hard, never give up, never underestimate yourself. Always put God first, because with God everything is pos-sible. Pharmacy need dedicated people, fo-
cused and hard-working.

PR office took time to find out more about dietetics department and Mrs. Mashile who's heading the department
I was born and grew up in Durban. I studied at UKZ where I completed my BSC dietetics, post graduate diploma dietetics. I did my community serve at Church of Scotland Hos-pital I also worked at ICHC before joining Hlengisizwe CHC.
Dietetics department is about educating and advising clients on how food and healthy eating habits can prevent illness and achieve and maintain optimum health.
I educate and advise a wide range of pa-tients on how therapeutic diets and dietary therapy can improve the management of their conditions, calculating individual’s nutri-tional requirements using standard equations based on assessments of blood chemistry, temperature, stress, mobility and other rele-vant factors analyzing the nutritional content of food devising eating plans and manipulat-ing recipes delivering group sessions to a variety of audiences, including children and patient groups educating other healthcare
and non health care professionals about food and nutrition issues; working with large companies to support well being programs for staff advising catering departments about specific dietary requirements
When confronted with major decision I first consult with fellow colleagues before taking it up the hierarchy, once a decision is made, I try to be persistent till the result is achieved.
I believe a team approach to achieving or-ganizational goals. As the dietetics depart-ment correct planning and organizational in-volvement where we can make contributions are key to success.
With every task and project I do in my work, I strive for quality and achieving the best pos-sible outcome for my clients that defines suc-cess in my field.
To young people who want to follow my ca-reer, people skills are integral part of dietet-ics as there is a lot of people contact. It is avery fulfilling career and if approached with passion and dedication there are many op-portunities.
When I take time off I read, spend time with family and friends watch movies and some-times take a drive

-service trainee under this organization. I live at Ntshongweni, I attended and completed my matric at Albini Girls High school and I am doing my diploma and final year in public relations at
Damelin Durban City campus
The reason why I chose this field, it is because I like com-munication, socializing, writ-ing, meeting new people and so on. I applied for work inte-grated learning at Hlen-gisizwe CHC on March 2013, and I fortunately happen to get this opportunity.
Most and for all, I thank Miss Sibongile Tshabalala (PRO) for giving her effort on making my application to be success-ful.
I thank every member from this organization, who wel-comed me with warm hands and made me feel at home. What I have realized so far, most of Hlengisizwe staff
members have humanity and that what meters most and expected from organizations dealing with people from our communities, especially pa-tients.
It has been an honour to work
as an in-service trainee at Hlen-gisizwe CHC under public rela-tions office. I started my training in September 2013, and so far I have leant a lot from Ms. Tshabalala. For others who would like to join the same field as mine, one need to have skills, passion, knowledge in writing; planning skills; public speaking; be a people’s person; be a good listener; be a very good researcher maintain the good relationship with stake-holders.

always command you to work with community no matter what character you are, and this has helped me to acquire certain qualities and ethics to live with which is respecting everyone no matter what age gap is, loving and appreciating presence of anyone that you meet and pa-
tience. As Nompumelelo kham-bule, I am currently studying towards diploma in Executive secretary and Hlengisizwe of-fered me an opportunity to in-vest the knowledge gained dur-ing my studies into practice. It was such a good exposure and challenges that I came across were resolved with the help from my superiors.
I’m a female of 29 years of age and friendly. I matriculated at Sikhethuxolo High and I studied at ICESA for diploma in Execu-tive secretary .
The experience that I have gained from staff and environ-ment has been of such benefit
to my career and has made the best secretary/administrator an-yone can look for.
I’m working with Miss Hlengiwe Sabela she has helped me to understand the duties of secre-
tary and the importance of this
position. The guidance that I have received from the staff, has helped also to share what I have learned during my studies.

NOBODY CAN DO EVERTHING BUT EVERYONE CAN DO SOMETHING
Mandela day is an annual celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life and a global call for action for people to recognise their individual power to make an imprint and change the world around them. A global movement for positive change begins with small actions.
To celebrate Madiba’s 95th birthday, Hlen-gisizwe clinic decided to join together and make a difference in our community. The staff at the clinic donated with anything that they were not using anymore, like clothes, toiletries & toys.
We always make sure that on what ever we do and get, we give back to the community. And so we had a jumble sale allowing the communi-ty to buy items we have collected at lower pric-es. We identified households in our community (with the help of CCG’s) that were struggling
due to family illness & poverty, and used the amount obtained after a jumble sale to purchase
bundle of food and delivered the food parcels to 5 households in our local community.
Also, we attended a handing over ceremony of a new house for a 95 year old lady in unit 6. The clinic nurses were also there to do medical quick examination. The members also went to KwaMyeza primary school to give a handful of children identified by teachers.
All in all, our community pulled up their socks, stood together and made a difference that was enormously appreciated.
As each person act, the fuel momentum to-wards positive change, raising awareness and expanding the reach of Mr Mandela’s value fighting injustice, helping people in need and practicing reconciliation.

week. The programme that brings basic health screening to learners at schools in areas that have been identified as priority health. These include schools in areas least likely to have
access to health care services

abuse , awareness of crime prevention, oral hy-gienist, awareness on road accidents healthy lifestyle and prevention of dental carries
Amongst the speakers was Mrs. T. Ngubane school health team leader who conducted awareness on teenage pregnancy and sexual abuse
Mrs Z. Khoza educated leaners about TB and healthy lifestyle and requested them to further spread the word about TB.
Health assessment was conducted to every learners and those who needed interventions were referred to Hlengisizwe CHC and nearest clinics
The rehab team spoke to the children about obesity, ear cleaning, staying healthy and im-portance of sports. They also spoke to the teachers about signs and symptoms of common childhood illnesses such as Cerebral Palsy, Au-tism, Hyper/hypo activity and did a Q&A to give teachers a few answers to some classroom problems.

For the first time Hlengisizwe CHC –Human
Resource initiated The Employee Recognition Awards Program has been designed to recog-nize and celebrate the outstanding contribu-tions of employees to the achievement of the mission and vision of Hlengisizwe CHC.
On the 26th July 2013Hlengisizwe CHC cele-brated and rewarded staff according to their work. There were for categories that

These awards supported HCHC mission, vi-sion and strategic priorities. They reinforce the importance of long service, innovation, teamwork, leadership and community involve-
ment. The event was held at unit 6 hall. Mr. Dlamini ward 91 councilor welcomed the packed hall and he commended time, contribu-tion and dedication done by HCHC graced the event and commended all the recipients on dedication and hard work they demonstrated rendering efficiency and effective to the com-munity Batho Pele comes first.
Rev. Mkhize from Mt Zion he commended staff about their dedication and love for the commu-nity. The event couldn't be a success without support of sponsors such as Regent, who spon-sored the event with the awards and food.

SPORTS CORNER
On the 23 August 2013 Hlengisizwe CHC soccer and netball team took part on the Ethekwini District Tournament that was held at Went-worths sports ground
It was a warm sunny weather conducive ‘’weather took a challenge on the field//. All in-stitution from Ethekwini Districts were repre-sented
Hlengisizwe netball team played very well as they have show some skills and results of their daily training
Hlengisizwe CHC netball is one of the respect-ed team in Ethekwini District, the level and professionalism they possess during the games. They played very well as they went to the semi finals where 2-I score and judging by their improved performances with no doubt they will win district tournament 2014.
The year has been hectic for Hlengisizwe CHC sport teams as they participated in a number of friendly games
of which they succeeded with a lot of flair and fine mo-ments
Hlengisizwe soccer team played very well in all friendly games and didn't win at the district tournament, however it hasn't put down the team spirit since they are busy training
