The fourth edition of the CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY YEARBOOK is already in our hands. It seems it was yes-terday when we started this project focusing all our ex-citement on it… and it’s already been three years. Three years full of work and effort, but also full of new expe-riences, new opportunities and, above all, new friends.

We are proud seeing the positive response that the world of contemporary jewellery has given to this project and we are grateful, above anything, for the loving and friendly welcome we received from the members of this great collective: artists, gallery owners, events organ-izers... We have grown as a project, but we have grown even more as human beings thanks to the contribution of all these wonderful people we deal with every day.

With the energy that gives us this experience, we present this new compendium of creativity, art and work. A great collection of artists who open their hearts to us through their works. Enjoy it!

La cuarta edición del ANUARIO DE JOYERÍA CON-TEMPORÁNEA ya está en nuestras manos. Parece que fue ayer cuando empezábamos con este proyecto volcando toda nuestra ilusión en él… y ya han pasado tres años. Tres años llenos de trabajo y esfuerzo, pero también llenos de nuevas experiencias, nuevas opor-tunidades y, sobre todo, nuevos amigos.

Nos enorgullece ver la positiva respuesta que el mun-do de la joyería contemporánea ha dado a este proyec-to y estamos agradecidos, por encima de cualquier cosa, por la cariñosa y afable acogida que hemos re-cibido por parte de los miembros de este gran colec-tivo: artistas, galeristas, organizadores de eventos… Hemos crecido como proyecto, pero hemos crecido todavía más como seres humanos gracias a la aporta-ción de todas estas maravillosas personas con las que tratamos cada día.

Con la energía que esta experiencia nos brinda, pre-sentamos este nuevo compendio de creatividad, arte y trabajo. Una gran reunión de artistas que nos abren sus corazones a través de sus obras. ¡Disfrútenlo!

El Premio Internacional Arte y Joya perfila su personalidad más investigadora. Los candidatos son los artistas participantes en el Anuario de Joyería Contemporánea. El premio recibe el nombre de la revista decana del Grupo Duplex.

La elección siempre es reñida porque las propuestas representan un verdadero laboratorio de creatividad, en la que queremos reco-nocer la importancia de la joyería contemporánea como punta de lanza en el desarrollo del sector.

El acto de entrega se realiza en el marco de JOYA, Contemporary Jewellery Week, el contexto ideal para destacar los artistas que se abren camino en todo el mundo.

The International Arte y Joya Award outlines its researcher person-ality. Candidates to it are the artists participating in the Contempo-rary Jewellery Yearbook. The award takes its name from the dean magazine of Grupo Duplex.

The election is always hard-fought because the proposals represent a veritable laboratory of creativity, in which we recognize the impor-tance of contemporary jewellery as spearhead sector development.

The award ceremony is performed under JOYA, Contemporary Jewellery Week, which is the ideal context for highlight the artists who make their way around the world.

El diseño de una joya es un viaje en el tiempo. Seguimos un camino a través de las emociones, los conceptos y las imágenes. Comunicamos nuestras ideas a través de nuestro trabajo. Nos interesa la conexión entre las civilizaciones prehistóricas de la región del Egeo con la cultura actual. Nuestro objetivo es crear composiciones tridimensionales, objetos escultóricos, diseñados para ser usados.

Designing a jewel is a journey in time. We follow a path through emotions, concepts and images. Our work is a medium through which we communicate our ideas. We are interested in the connection between elements of prehistoric civilizations from the Aegean region with today’s culture. Our aim is to create three dimensional compositions, sculptural objects, designed to be worn.

Collar Sentimientos, realizado en plata y madera de tecla de piano antiguo. Envuelve sentimientos que cada uno experimenta al escuchar diferentes piezas musicales. De pequeña tocaba el piano y al encontrarme con las teclas de un piano antiguo destruido, fue como volver al pasado y revivir todos aquellos sentimientos.

I played piano when was a child and find the keys of a destroyed old piano, was like returning to the past and relive those feelings.

La artista vive en las Islas Galápagos donde tiene su taller en Tortoise Jewelry en la isla Santa Cruz. Sus diseños están inspirados en su entorno, jugando con texturas y formas de plantas endémicas del lugar y con los paisajes de las islas, fusionándolas con diversos materiales para lograr piezas únicas y diferentes.

The artist lives in the Galapagos Islands where she has her workshop in Tortoise Jewelry in Santa Cruz Island. Her designs are inspired by the surroundings, playing with textures and forms of endemic plants and the sceneries of the islands, fusing them with diverse materials to achieve unique and different jewelry.

No creo en la joya para hombre o para mujer, prefiero pensar en mis creaciones como mezcla de géneros. Hombres y mujeres no son necesariamente contradictorios, pueden ser complementarios. Es por eso que mis joyas asocian plata con materiales tan diversos como porcelana pulida o áspera madera, plástico o concha. Trato de crear un modelo más matizado, más auténtico.

I do not care that the jewel is worn by a man or a woman, I’d rather be looking through my creations to mix genres. For female and male are not necessarily contradictory, they can be complementary. That is why my jewellery associate silver and materials as diverse as porcelain polished or rough wood, plastic or abalone. I try to create a more nuanced model, more authentic.

The Waterfall ring, a part of the Stonehenge Collection, represents the chaotic, colourful metropolis and its surrounding natural beauties. The roughly broken collared stones stand for this concept. The colour and the shape of the stones are like dancing of the waves which has no limitations meaning you will go with the flow as you put this ring on.

Empecé, al mismo tiempo que mis estudios de arte, a introducirme en el mundo de la joyería a una edad muy temprana. He trabajado y exhibido mis diseños en Chile, Canadá, Holanda, Barcelona y Bucarest. Diseño joyas porque en ellas encontré un espacio de libertad y crea-tividad único en el arte.

I started, in parallel to my art studies, to join in the world of jewellery at a young age. I have worked and exhibited my designs in Chile, Canada, Netherlands, Barcelona and Bucharest. I make jewellery because I found a space of freedom and creativity unique in the arts.

Construyo piezas únicas derivadas del estudio de ele-mentos mecánicos en desuso, transformándolas de piezas utilitarias en una obra poética-artística. Este collar fue elaborado con piezas de la máquina de es-cribir BrotherDelux 250TR y obtuvo el primer lugar en el Concurso Nacional de Joyería Contemporánea 2012, Santiago, Chile.

I make unique pieces derived from the study of obsolete mechanical objects transforming them in utilitarian pieces in a poetic and artistic work. This necklace was made from pieces of typewriter BrotherDelux 250TR and won first place in the National Competition of Contemporary Jewellery 2012, Santiago, Chile.

Esta colección analiza el significado de la perfección, centrándose en la paradoja de la perfecta imperfección. Explora la idea de cómo un círculo, la forma más perfecta, puede volverse imperfecto o incluso más perfecto después de haber sido alterado. Este concepto se materializa en joyas de plata a través del uso de formas circulares que se someten a procesos de distorsión y deformación.

This collection explores the definition of perfection, focusing on the paradox of perfect imperfection. It explores the notion of how a circle, the most perfect form, can become imperfect or even more perfect by manipulating it. This concept is translated through the use of simple circular forms that are manipulated, distorted or distressed through a range of processes, largely focusing on silver.

Esta joya habla el lenguaje del color para aquellos que no pueden ver con los ojos, sino sentirlo con el alma. Oρμή expresa el color a través de su ausencia. Tal cosa, por su naturaleza intangible, llega a los videntes, una experien-cia sensorial, tan evidente como incorpórea, medible en longitudes de onda, pero invisible a los ciegos, para los que-tal vez-su comprensión podría hablar de formas, narrativa, sensaciones.

This jewel speaks out the language of colour for those who cannot see it with the eyes but feel it with the soul. Oρμή expresses the colour through its absence. Such thing, in-tangible by nature, becomes to the seers, a sensorial ex-perience, as evident as incorporeal, measurable in waves longitudes, but invisible to the blind, for whom -maybe- its understanding could talk about forms, narrative, sensations.

Por su formación artística y arquitectónica las piezas de Cova Ríos consiguen ser pequeñas piezas escultóricas llevables. Se entienden como una prolongación de su vinculación con el arte pero sin renunciar al concepto de adorno como función principal de la joyería.

For its artistic and architectural formation Cova Rios’s pieces get to be small wearable sculptures. They are considered as an extension of its relationship with art without giving up the concept of adornment as main function of jewellery.

La tortuga es una fuente de inspiración para la mayoría de las culturas, simboliza la estabilidad, la longevidad y la protección. Destaca en el reino animal por su caparazón dividido en trece secciones, asociadas a las trece fases de la luna en un año. Se utiliza como símbolo de la unión del cielo y la tierra, de la maternidad y de la creación.

The turtle is an inspiration for most cultures, as well as the physical characteristics of symbolize perseverance, stability, longevity and protection. It stands out in the animal kingdom is the shell divided into thirteen sections associated with the thirteen phases of the moon in a year. It is used as a symbol of union of heaven and earth, of motherhood and creation.

The Ring, colección MDF. Expresa la idea de portabilidad y deriva del campo en el empecé y en el que todavía trabajo, la escultura. Soy consciente de que esta es una mala in-terpretación, pero siempre he vivido con la impresión de que una escultura es más poderosa cuando su proporción no es baja. Por lo tanto, hice una colección que no tiene límites ni en el número de esculturas usables ni en el tamaño de las mismas.

The Ring, MDF collection. It is overrunning the idea of weara-bility, being derived from the field in which I activated and still do, sculpture. I am aware that this is an misinterpretation, but all along I have lived with the impression that a sculpture is more powerful when its proportion is not low. Thus, I made a collection that knows no limit neither on the number of wearable sculptures nor the size of them.

A través de mi trabajo, exploro la arquitectura influen-ciada por los movimientos artísticos de vanguardia del cubismo y el constructivismo. In my work, I explore architecture influenced by the avant-garde art movements of Cubism & Constructivism. In many of my designs I gave more importance to the gem that I want to show, but one of my preferences when desig-ning a piece is to use simple lines and geometric shapes. In this case, gems are simply accompanying geometric figures that are the essence of the design.

During my designing process I am inspired intuitively by wind and water. Improvising with my characteristic idiom I design multifaceted jewellery in endless variations. En ocasiones me inspiro en hechos históricos. Este collar es una síntesis plástica de Pompeya, que fue enterrada por la erupción del Vesubio en el año 79 dC. Me fascina la fuerza de los murales de La Villa de los Misterios, la calidad de los instrumentos quirúrgicos de bronce y hie-rro encontrados en La Casa del Cirujano o el empedrado de las calles.

Sometimes I am inspired by historical facts. This collar is a plastic synthesis of Pompei, which was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. I love the strength of the mu-ral of The Villa of the Mysteries, the quality of the surgical instruments of bronze and iron found in The House Surgeon or the cobbled streets.

I’m charmed by textile techniques applied to metals since they offer endless possibilities of experimentation by min-gling traditional goldsmith’s art to a personal wire braiding and weaving technique. This work is based on the idea of the passing of time in our society, which imposes a series of experiences that we do not always like or we should remember. This piece supports a similar baggage as all the mortals who, over the years, are increasingly aware that this is the result of multiple past decisions which we were responsible.

I use tiny antique and vintage childhood toys to examine the fragility and endurance of childhood wonder and its profound effect on our everyday adult lives. Todo surge gracias a una idea original. Para hacer los pendientes de la colección Kimono usamos seda origi-nal de un antiguo kimono japonés, colocada sobre una madera muy ligera con un proceso particular, que evoca encanto e historia. Los pendientes son asimétricos: un lado tiene un maniquí que llevaba un kimono y el otro lado tiene un símbolo chino que significa luz.

Everything thanks to an original idea. To make the earrings of the Kimono collection we use original silk from antique Japanese kimono, laid on a really light wood with a particular process, evoking charm and history. The earrings are asym-metrical: one side has a manikin wearing a kimono and the other side has a Chinese symbol that means light.

Formada como diseñadora gráfica, incursionó en las artes de la fibra y arcilla polimérica. Su amor por la tipografía y las artes de la fibra conforman su trabajo actual. Aprecia la relación simbiótica entre la creación y la enseñanza. En gran parte de su trabajo actual crea formas sencillas y elegantes con arcilla translúcida y les infunde capas de textura y color que sugieren una profundidad infinita.

Trained as a graphic designer, she went on to pursue fiber arts and polymer clay. Her love for typography and fiber arts informs her current work. She appreciates the symbiotic relationship between creating and teaching. In much of her current work she forms simple elegant shapes of translu-cent clay and infused them with layers of texture and colour that suggest infinite depth.

The Chair series rings are closely related to my sculptural work. A basic cubic frame with a geometric expression can be gradually transformed to a more closed volume with small gold plates. The new materials mix, which, in the early 1980’s, caused a lot of head-shaking in the jewellery industry, was a perfect match with the designer’s personal philosophy: The question of the value of what is intrinsically worthless and the worthlessness of the valuable reflects a stance that is basic to my life.

An empty plastic bottle and the grass where it lies has the same origins in nature. Chemical elements such as carbon, oxygen, or hydrogen in the composition of plastic are the same as of water, air, and even creatures. My intention is to observe and resuscitate these bottles and transfer dead plastic to vivid life, then make people rethink about trash-like that soaks our environment.

For me the material nature of jewelry is not nearly as impor-tant as the presence and feeling of an object that has been transformed from one material, having one purpose, into something entirely different. Whatever the material or the original purpose, it can be transformed into something new and unexpected with a new and viable reason for existing.

Mi trabajo se hace eco de mi personalidad es la necesi-dad de expresión y la asunción de riesgos llevando los materiales a los límites. La propuesta es lograr que no se vea, para provocar los sentimientos de los usuarios de mis joyas, a través de la plasticidad del material y la viveza de los colores.

My work echoes my personality’s ever demanding need for expression and the risk taking of bringing materials to the limits. My current work is risking the uses of silver and powder pigments. The proposal is to achieve the unseen, to provoke the feelings of the user of my jewellery, through the plasticity of the material and the vividness of colours.

My work is sculptural, grown from fine wire of silver or gold. Every piece is handmade and unique. Nature inspires me, especially the underwater world. I started as a silversmith, worked at a restorer workshop and finally studied metal design. I love to play with these different possibilities of expressions.

I work with a most ancient and colourful material: thread, which gives me the freedom to create large, rich and lightweight pieces. The crochet hook has become a natural extension of my hand creating pieces of jewellery based on a technique, not entirely traditional, nevertheless forming part of Greek modern life. My creations are influenced by the richness of Greek nature. I always was fascinated by Greek mythology as well as by fairytales. I borrow these stories in order to make my own story crocheting each piece of jewellery.

Our exhibition covers a wide range of Baltic amber jewellery, silver and gold jewellery with gemstones, diamonds and pearls, decorative stones, silver functional art products, technologies and packaging. Cada año en febrero, INHORGENTA MU-NICH abre sus puertas a un fascinante mundo de joyas y relojes. El pabellón C2 juega un papel importante en la feria - un lugar de encuentro y de inspiración para diseñadores de todo el mundo. Para los diseñadores de joyería contemporánea, así como para jóvenes y prometedores ta-lentos, es la plataforma perfecta para un valioso intercambio de ideas y una gran posibilidad de exponer y vender su nuevo e innovador trabajo.

Más de la mitad de los expositores del C2 provienen de fuera de Alemania: del 20 al 23 de febrero, diseñadores de España, Por-tugal, Italia, Polonia, Gran Bretaña, Grecia e Irlanda presentan su filosofía de marca y sus interesantes piezas en stands interna-cionales conjuntos. Además, la feria reúne a jóvenes talentos y diseñadores de prime-ra calidad ya establecidos, como los pio-neros alemanes Angela Hübel, Carl Dau o Marion Knorr, lo que asegura un encuentro beneficioso para ambas partes. Every year in February, INHORGENTA MU-NICH opens its gates to a fascinating world of jewellery and watches. A major role plays the pavilion C2 – an inspiring meeting place for designers from all over the world. For contemporary jewellery designers, as well as young promising talents, it is the perfect platform for a valuable exchange of ideas and a great possibility to exhibit and sell their outstanding new products.

More than half of the exhibitors in C2 come from abroad: From 20 to 23 February, de-signers from Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland, Great Britain, Greece and Ireland present their brand philosophy and intriguing arti-facts at joint international stands. For young talents INHORGENTA MUNICH is not only a great source of inspiration but also a great chance to call the attention of important in-fluencers in the international industry. One

of these promising new faces is Stephanie Hensle from Germany: the young designer has been awarded with the INHORGENTA MUNICH special price of the renowned Leg-nica Jewellery Festival SILVER 2014 in Po-land and therefore gets the chance to exhibit at INHORGENTA MUNICH 2015.

Another major point that makes INHOR-GENTA MUNICH to one of the most impor-tant events in the world of jewellery is the high emphasis laid on communication and networking: For instance, in the relaxing atmosphere of the Contemporary Design Lounge, the designer community can en-joy a delicious breakfast while discussing new trends and the future of the jewellery industry. IBERJOYA

En el mes de Septiembre se celebró en Madrid, bajo el paraguas de la 66 edición de Giftrends, el salón Iberjoya. La muestra reflejó el es-fuerzo de las empresas para motivar al sector y sirvió de escaparate de tendencias para la colección otoño/invierno.

Uno de los eventos realizados dentro de este salón fue la exposición “Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook 2013/2014”, que dio una visión única de más de un centenar de artistas provenientes de todo el mundo que se dedican al diseño, la experimentación, las emociones, el arte... en el terreno del ornamento corporal. Todos ellos partici-pantes en la tercera edición del primer anuario impreso de joyería contemporánea del mundo. Esta exposición se convierte siempre en un punto de gran interés al mostrar el mundo de la joyería contem-poránea en un ambiente más comercial.

In the month of September was held in Madrid, under the umbrella of the 66th edition of Giftrends, the show Iberjoya. The fair reflected the efforts of the companies to motivate the industry and served as a showcase of trends for the autumn / winter collection.

One of the events held in this show was the exhibition “Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook 2013/2014”, which offered a unique sight to more than one hundred artists from around the world who are dedicated to the design, the experimentation, the emotions, the art... in the field of body ornament. All of them were participants of the third edition of the first printed book in the world of contemporary jewellery. This exhibition always becomes a point of great interest as shows the world of contem-porary jewellery in this commercial environment.

JOYA Barcelona Art Jewellery Fair es un evento internacional que pre-senta una cuidadosa selección de artistas, galerías, colectivos y escue-las relacionadas con el mundo de la joyería de arte. Un evento repleto de actividades tanto para profesionales como para el público en general.

El Anuario de Joyería Contemporánea estuvo de nuevo presente en la 5ª edición de JOYA en Octubre, con su nueva edición. Además, disfrutó de un especial protagonismo organizando la entrega del IV Premio In-ternacional Arte Y Joya durante la feria.

Los candidatos fueron los artistas participantes en el Anuario de Jo-yería Contemporánea 2013/2014. La elección fue reñida porque las propuestas representaron un verdadero compendio de creatividad, queriendo reconocer la importancia de la joyería contemporánea como punta de lanza en el desarrollo del sector.

Los miembros del jurado fueron ocho personas estrechamente relacio-nadas con el mundo del diseño:

JOYA Barcelona Art Jewellery Fair is an international event with an accu-rate selection of artists, galleries, collectives and schools related to the world of art jewellery. An event full of activities for professionals as well as the general public.

The Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook was again present in the 5th edi-tion of JOYA in Barcelona in October, with its new edition. Also enjoyed a special prominence by organizing the delivery of IV International Arte Y Joya during the fair.

The candidates were the artists participating in Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook 2013/2014. The election was fought because the proposals re-presented a veritable compendium of creativity, wanting to recognize the importance of contemporary jewelry in the sector development.

Members of the jury were eight people closely related to the contemporary design world:

ESPAIJOIA es la cita de la joyería en Barcelona que se celebra paralela-mente a JOYA, dentro de la Semana de la Joyería de Barcelona. El salón, asentado ya como una cita importante para los profesionales de la joyería, mantuvo una gran acogida por parte del público el pasado mes de Octu-bre. Estuvo marcado por el buen ambiente, la magnífica organización y la animada actividad por parte de los expositores y los visitantes del salón.

Uno de los eventos realizados dentro de este salón fue la exposición “Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook 2013/2014”, que dio una visión única de más de un centenar de artistas provenientes de todo el mundo que se dedican al diseño, la experimentación, las emociones, el arte... en el terreno del ornamento corporal. Todos ellos participantes en la tercera edición del primer anuario impreso de joyería contemporánea del mundo. Al igual que en anteriores años, esta exposición disfrutó de un gran éxito, convirtiéndose en uno de los puntos álgidos del Salón.

ESPAIJOIA is the appointment of jewellery in Barcelona celebrates in parallel wit JOYA within the Jewellery Week Barcelona. The show, already established as an important event for the jewellery professionals kept a great reception from the public last October. It was marked by the great atmosphere, superb organization and the lively activity on the part of exhibitors and show visitors.

El Anuario de Joyería Contemporánea se ha definido siempre como un proyecto abierto a todo tipo de iniciativas que ayuden en la pro-moción de la joyería contemporánea y sus creadores. En esa línea, el Anuario emprendió hace dos años una nueva actividad con su pre-sencia en Inhorgenta (Hall C2) con un stand propio.

Tenemos la oportunidad de presentar en directo el Anuario en una de las plataformas comerciales más interesantes del mundo en cuanto a joyería contemporánea se refiere, dado que el pabellón C2 de Inhor-genta es un referente de la expresión más creativa del sector.

The Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook has always been defined as open to all kinds of initiatives to assist in the promotion of contemporary jewelery and creative projects. In this way, the Yearbook launched two years ago a new activity with its presence in Inhorgenta (Hall C2) with our own stand.

We have the opportunity to present the Yearbook in one of the most inte-resting trading platforms in the world in terms of contemporary jewelery is concerned, since the Inhorgenta C2 Hall is a benchmark of the indus-try’s creative expression.

This has been the proposal of the CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY YEARBOOK 2014/2015: innovation, experi-mentation, questioning, subjectivity, reflection... in short, art in the form of a jewel. Each work has a concept, a story that gives it identity and a reason, expressing the deepest thoughts of each author, their experiences, their ideas. This concept, this story reflects on us and gives us a new vision of the jewellery.

We want to thank all the artists who have helped to make this book a reality again; their talent and enthusiasm are what drives us. They transmit us their energy, their curi-osity, their reflections... they give us life.

For all of them, for those who were before and for those who will come, we will continue on with the same enthu-siasm, putting all our effort to continue expanding the contemporary jewellery horizons.

Esta ha sido la propuesta del ANUARIO DE JOYERÍA CONTEMPORÁNEA para 2014/2015: innovación, ex-perimentación, interrogación, subjetividad, reflexión… en definitiva, arte en forma de joya. Cada obra posee un concepto, una historia que le dan identidad y ra-zón, expresando los pensamientos más profundos de cada autor, sus experiencias, sus ideas. Este concep-to, esta historia se refleja en nosotros, dándonos una nueva visión de la joyería.

Queremos dar las gracias a todos los artistas que han ayudado a que este libro sea, de nuevo, una realidad; su talento y su entusiasmo son nuestro motor. Nos contagian su energía, su curiosidad, sus reflexiones… nos dan vida.
