The CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY YEARBOOK reaches its third edition. With it this international community group, actively involved in the promotion and dissemi-nation of the contemporary jewellery in the world, is consolidated.It is a pride for the entire group to realize the active ac-ceptance of their annual proposals, as well as all of the parallel events that we create around it, such as exhi-bitions and programmed shows in different jewellery shows over the world, grouped presentations in fairs. As prime mover and the editor of the book, we thank to all participants for their creativity and fidelity in a project where the jewel is understood and lived as one of the best vehicles of artistic presentation.

El ANUARIO DE JOYERÍA CONTEMPORÁNEA llega a su tercera edición. Con ella se consolida esta co-munidad internacional que colabora activamente en grupo para la promoción y la difusión de la joyería contemporánea en el mundo. Es un orgullo para todo el colectivo comprobar la ac-tiva recepción de sus propuestas anuales, así como de todos los eventos paralelos que se ponen en marcha a su alrededor, como son las exposiciones y muestras programadas en distintos salones joyeros del mundo o las presentaciones agrupadas en ferias. Grupo Duplex, motor de la iniciativa y editor del li-bro, agradece en especial a todos los participantes su creatividad y fidelidad en un proyecto destinado a que la joya se entienda y se viva como uno de los mejores vehículos de presentación artística.

El Premio Internacional Arte y Joya perfila su personalidad más investigadora. Los candidatos son los artistas participantes en el Anuario de Joyería Contemporánea. El premio recibe el nombre de la revista decana del Grupo Duplex.

La elección siempre es reñida porque las propuestas representan un verdadero laboratorio de creatividad, en la que queremos reco-nocer la importancia de la joyería contemporánea como punta de lanza en el desarrollo del sector.

El acto de entrega se realiza en el marco de JOYA, Contemporary Jewellery Week, el contexto ideal para destacar los artistas que se abren camino en todo el mundo.

The International Arte y Joya Award outlines its researcher person-ality. Candidates to it are the artists participating in the Contempo-rary Jewellery Yearbook. The award takes its name from the dean magazine of Grupo Duplex.

The election is always hard-fought because the proposals represent a veritable laboratory of creativity, in which we recognize the impor-tance of contemporary jewellery as spearhead sector development.

The award ceremony is performed under JOYA, Contemporary Jewellery Week, which is the ideal context for highlight the artists who make their way around the world.

ALBERTO ZORZI

Zorzi representa una propuesta plástica que nace de la práctica del diseño orfebre. Zorzi es escultor de jo-yas, da a la joya la libertad del mármol en la escultura. Realiza un proceso inverso al que estamos acostum-brados, realizando no tanto escultura en concepto de joyas, sino joyas en concepto de escultura. Profesor Enrico Crispolti, Universidad de Siena y Roma.

Zorzi represents a plastic proposal that takes birth from the practice with the silversmith design. It can be said that Zorzi is a sculptor of jewels that brings to the jewel the liberty of marble in the sculpture. De hecho trabajo acerca de la observación de la na-turaleza… Como un naturalista… Dibujo ranas, ca-maleones, flores… Una colección de un cierto tipo de herbario e insectos. Después, puedo mezclarlo todo para crear mi propia realidad de la naturaleza y dar mi visión haciendo broches y anillos con insectos, flores, bambú…

I work actually around an observation of the nature… Like a naturalist… I draw frogs, cameleons, flowers… A certain type of herbal and insect collection. Then, I can mix all to make my own reality of this nature and to give my vision in making pins and rings with insects, flowers, bamboo…

Mi trabajo representa una conciencia ambiental. Uso materiales reciclados que llevo a sus límites sintiendo intuitivamente sus puntos extremos. Esto se convier-te en una exploración de intención, azar y casualidad. Mediante la experimentación, la transformación de los descartes de nuestra cultura de consumo, deseo hacer tomar conciencia de la ideología de que todo tiene potencial para ser reutilizado y valorado.

My work represents an environmental consciousness. Using reclaimed materials I push these materials to their limits sensing intuitively their points of extremity. This becomes an exploration of intent, chance and accident. By experimenting, transforming the discards of our con-sumer culture, I wish to bring awareness to the ideology that everything has potential to be reused and valued.

La manera en que creo mis piezas tiene mucho que ver con mi amor por los polos opuestos. Combinando diversos elementos o repitiendo los mismos símbolos, intento crear joyas que tienen una estructura clara y que jueguen un papel importante como complemento del cuerpo del usuario.

The way I compose my pieces has a lot to do with my love for contradictory dipoles. Combining various elements or using the same symbols in repetition, I try to create jewellery that have a clear structure and that play an im-portant role in complementing the body of the wearer.

En mis joyas, por ejemplo, el plástico crece sobre y a través de la pie-dra. La forma orgánica del plástico toma la piedra.

This brooch has been created to the topic “Lithophil”. “Lithophil” means Stonelove. It’s inspired by microor-ganisms that have been formed in the rock and live by it. In my jewellery, for example, the plastic grows over and through the stone, The organic shape of the plastic takes the stone.

My roots: barnacles are suspension feeders; they dwell continually in their shell. My island: Seashell found on a beach, my beach. Organic forms that lay on the body. La joyería de Elaine está inspirada en las increíbles formas. Superficies y materiales de la Tierra. La cali-dez del oro, manipulado para parecer desgastado por el tiempo es, a menudo, yuxtapuestos con plata oxi-dada y minerales en bruto. Piedras preciosas como diamantes, rubíes y zafiros están normalmente sin pulir y sin tallar como homenaje a su origen.

Elaine’s jewellery is inspired by the amazing forms, sur-faces and materials of the earth. The warmth of gold, manipulated to appear worn by time, is often juxtaposed with oxidised silver and raw minerals. Precious stones such as diamonds, rubies and sapphires are usually un-polished and uncut in celebration of their origin.

Mi búsqueda se basa en conjugaciones actuales de diferentes materiales, pero que crean piezas elegantes como la porcelana con caucho, tela, elementos naturales.

Inspirada por sus raíces europeas, su trabajo resalta los elementos esenciales del diseño, jugando con la geometría y la interacción de forma en la relación, presentando la inherente belleza del patrón.

Elizabete’s jewellery strikes a balance between geomet-ric and organic, fragile and strong, precious and ordi-nary, traditional and modern. Inspired by her European roots, her work brings out the essential elements of de-sign, playing with geometry and the interplay of form in relationship, presenting the inherent beauty of pattern.

Mi inspiración proviene de la observación de mi en-torno. Una hoja, una piedra, un mosaico en el techo, un corte de pelo de alguien que conocí, un mueble... cualquier cosa puede encender mi imaginación. Uso mayoritariamente bronce y plata solos o con piedras semipreciosas o con añadidos intrigantes o con perlas.

My inspiration comes from the observation around me. A leaf, a stone, a tile on a roof, a haircut of someone I met, a piece of furniture … anything can switch on my imagination. I mostly use bronze and silver, sometimes or with semiprecious stones with intriguing inclusions or with pearls.

Mantiene contacto con muchos aman-tes y criadores de aves de toda Europa. Nunca utiliza plumas de especies protegidas. Ahora vive y trabaja en Bratislava y Berlín.

Gudrun Arp was born in Hamburg, Germany. She col-lects feathers from her very childhood onwards. Most of the feathers are from ducks, pheasants, peacocks or special breeds of cocks. She maintains contacts to many bird enthusiasts and breeders from all over Europe. She never is using feathers from protected species. For the time being she stays and works in Bratislava and Berlin.

Me centro en la piel humana que es mi principal ins-piración y que tiene texturas múltiples y únicas. “Skin secret”, el nombre de mi proyecto, es acerca de la identidad y el ego. Basado en el concepto principal, desarrollo dos líneas de trabajo. De esta forma, la creación ofrece un método de pensamiento para dis-cutir el comportamiento humano.

I focus on human skin, which is my main inspiration and it has multifarious unique textures. “Skin secret”, the ti-tle of my project, is about the “id” and “ego”. Based on the main concept, I develop two bodies of work. In this way, the creation offers a thinking method to discuss hu-man behaviours.

My passion for creating jewellery derives from my desire to create something new, using different simple materi-als combining them with fine goldsmith’s work. My inspi-ration comes from observing different body movements of dancers and gymnastics. In the process I explored the freezing of a movement by metal framework.

En este caso, saca de contexto las famosas “Matrioskas” que combinadas con materiales propios de la joyería, es-conden en su interior una sorpresa final…una muñeca a modo de colgante en oro amarillo.

Iñaki Salom is inspired by architectural elements, urban symbols, typography, toys or popular traditional objects to turn them into jewellery. In this case, he takes the famous “Matrioskas” out of context, which combined with typical materials of jewellery, hides inside a final surprise... a doll in yellow gold as a pendant.

Jewels that narrate, I take advantage of the plasticity and the cromatism of the materials to create sequences and movements, my source of inspiration in this collec-tion was the Vesubio and Pompei. I like to cause this act unconscious when someone looks at my pieces and they read its title they are transported and they complete the story to their own idea.

Todo esto que está allí imperceptible, a punto de ser descartado, vuelve a la historia y cambia su rumbo.

For some time, I have been working with pieces of wood and found objects from the idea of re-use natural ele-ments. They are narrative pieces with stories that have to do with the story itself about the objects that compose it, and the new images that arise from a new composi-tion. All that is there imperceptible, about to be discard-ed is back to the story and changes its course.

A partir de su obra escultórica “Semilla” en 1997, comenzó a esculpir piezas pequeñas como ella las llama. Auténticas esculturas que engarza y convierte en joyas de diseño modernas, que enlazan directa-mente con los que sin duda lucían los primeros seres humanos. Tribales, realizadas con madera y metales, procedentes del entorno natural.

From her sculpture work “Semilla” in 1997, she began sculpting small pieces, as she calls them. Authen-tic sculptures that she sets and coverts in design and modern jewels, that link directly to those who certainly worn the first humans beings. “La Piedra” the work that I present is inspired on three materials: metal, wood and mica, and has the sense of the change’s transformation, the evolution. The wood through the metal appears transparent, translucent, has changed, it is a stone that even though it appears hard and immutable has been transformed.

Renata is engaged in research on textile jewellery struc-tured by wire, mouldable to the body to create ongoing dialogues between the wearer and the jewel. Inspirada en el museo Guggenheim de Nueva York, esta colección representa un camino, que vuelta tras vuelta nos conduce a un espacio en continuo movi-miento. Un volumen creado a partir de una única línea sin origen ni final. Los diamantes contrastan con el ónix, creando un efecto óptico casi hipnótico, que nos arrastra hacia el interior de esta espiral infinita.

Inspired by the Guggenheim Museum in New York, this collection represents a lane, that lap after lap leads to a space in continuous movement. A volume reated from a single line with no origin or end. The diamonds contrast with the onyx, creating an optical effect almost hypnotic, that drags us towards the interior of this infinite spiral.

Each jewel can exist on its own, robust and present, as a sculpture in a landscape.

Suzi’s work engages the past. Rather than creating reproductions, she uses the past playfully, as a way to imbue her work with the qualities of uniqueness and rar-ity. My inspiration is the movement of the body and the Uni-verse. Forms are abstract with no recognizable motifs. How look like the energy? El ornamento, el estampado y la textura influyen en mi acercamiento al diseño.

Sculptural in quality, bold in appearance my designs are formed through fused craft and artisanal workmanship. All artefacts are hand stitched, moulded, linked and as-sembled with attention to detail and finished off with found objects. Ornament, pattern and texture influence my approach to design.

Son corales, animales marinos, insectos y plantas tropicales los que me inspiran a producir mis joyas con esmalte al fuego. Es un material que es quemado casi al punto de fundición del metal, pero me permite de combinar colores translucientes con oro, plata a veces cobre en combinación con gemas preciosas.

They are corals, marine animals, insects and tropical plants what inspire me to produce my fire enamel jewel-lery. It is a material that is burned near the melting point of the metal, but it allows me to combine translucent colours with gold, silver, sometimes copper in combina-tion with precious gems.

My attention is focused on both abstract pattern and texture, combining the natural colour, and three-dimen-sional form. The tea stains become a perfect pattern and are turned into high quality wearable jewellery. The process of dying with tea creates paths of surprise and accidental colour and shape. These are beautiful marks, which I try to highlight in my work.

En el mes de Septiembre se celebró en Madrid, bajo el paraguas de la 64 edición de Giftrends, el salón Iberjoya. La muestra reflejó el es-fuerzo de las empresas para motivar al sector y sirvió de escaparate de tendencias para la colección otoño/invierno. Cabe destacar que el 8% de estos visitantes eran de origen internacional.Uno de los eventos realizados dentro de este salón fue la exposición “Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook 2012/2013”, que dio una visión única de más de un centenar de artistas provenientes de todo el mundo que se dedican al diseño, la experimentación, las emociones, el arte... en el terreno del ornamento corporal. Todos ellos partici-pantes en el primer anuario impreso de joyería contemporánea del mundo Esta exposición tuvo una gran acogida, convirtiéndose en uno de los puntos más visitados del Salón.

JOYA - CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY WEEK

El ANUARIO DE JOYERÍA CONTEMPORÁNEA 2012/2013 tuvo una activa presencia en la 4ª edición de JOYA en Barcelona en Octubre. Además de estar presente durante toda la celebración de la exposi-ción con la nueva edición del libro, disfrutamos de un especial prota-gonismo organizando dos importantes eventos.

Mesa redonda “Formación, ¿versus arte, versus industria?”Un diálogo abierto a tres frentes y que pretendió exponer las relacio-nes actuales entre el mundo docente, el artístico y el industrial en el sector de la joyería, los puntos de encuentro y diferencia, la necesi-dad o no de entendimiento, la existencia o no de colaboración, y las fórmulas para tender lazos y puentes de futuro.

III Premio Internacional Arte y JoyaEn esta edición, el PREMIO INTERNACIONAL ARTE Y JOYA perfiló su personalidad más investigadora. Los candidatos fueron los ar-tistas participantes en el ANUARIO DE JOYERÍA CONTEMPORÁNEA 2012/2013.La elección fue reñida porque las propuestas representaron un ver-dadero laboratorio de creatividad, en la que quisimos reconocer la importancia de la joyería contemporánea como punta de lanza en el desarrollo del sector.Los miembros del jurado fueron nueve personas estrechamente re-lacionadas con el mundo del diseño: Anthony Chevallier, Carmen Li-zarriturri, Cristina Mariño, Giò Carbone, Iván Moreno, Joan Oliveras, Manuel Carrera, Michele Bortoluzzi, y Paulo Ribeiro.

The CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY YEARBOOK 2012/2013 has had an active presence in the 4th edition of JOYA held in Barcelona in October. Besides being present during the celebration of the exhibition with the new edition of the book, we enjoyed a special role organizing two impor-tant events.

Round Table: “Training: Versus Art, Versus Industry?”This was an open dialogue on three fronts which aimed to set forth the current relationships between the worlds of education, art and industry in the jewellery sector, along with the points of convergence and diver-gence, the need or lack of need for understanding, the existence or non-existence of collaboration and the formulas for building ties and bridges in the future.

III International ARTE Y JOYA AwardIn this edition, the INTERNATIONAL ARTE Y JOYA AWARD outlined its researcher personality. Candidates to it were the artists participating in the CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY YEARBOOK 2012/2013.The election was hard-fought because the proposals represented a veri-table laboratory of creativity, in which we recognized the importance of contemporary jewellery as spearhead sector development.The members of the jury were nine people tightly related with the design world: Anthony Chevallier, Carmen Lizarriturri, Cristina Mariño, Giò Car-bone, Iván Moreno, Joan Oliveras, Manuel Carrera, Michele Bortoluzzi and Paulo Ribeiro.

Después de celebrar la exposición de “Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook 2012/2013” en diferentes ferias profesionales, se presen-tó por primera vez en una joyería de cara al público consumidor en Zaragoza, donde se pudieron contemplar alrededor de 80 piezas, desde el día 8 hasta el día 26 de noviembre en la Joyería Ginés de la capital aragonesa. El día 22 se celebró un cóctel para los medios de comunicación y a los clientes más selectos de la Joyería Ginés. Esta exhibición constituye un verdadero acontecimiento en el mundo de la joyería contemporánea, diseñadores de todo el mundo han expuesto sus creaciones, haciendo de la muestra un espejo de las tendencias de la joyería más extrema y actual convirtiéndose en una lanzadera de nuevos valores. Y por primera vez los visitantes de la “Contempo-rary Jewellery Yearbook 2012/2013” tenían la opción de comprar las piezas expuestas.

After celebrating the exhibition of “Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook 2012/2013” in different trade shows, it was presented for the first time in a jewellery shop to the final consumer in Zaragoza, where they could see around 80 pieces, from 8th to 26th of November in the Ginés Jewellery of Zaragoza. In 22nd November was held a cocktail party for the media and the best customers of the shop. This exhibition was quite an event in the world of contemporary jewellery, designers across the world have presented their creations, becoming in a mirror of the most extreme and current jewellery trends and in a launcher of new values. And for the first time, the visitors to the “Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook 2012/2013” exhibition had the option to buy the exhibited pieces.

El Anuario de Joyería Contemporánea se ha definido siempre como un proyecto abierto a todo tipo de iniciativas que ayuden en la pro-moción de la joyería contemporánea y sus creadores. En esa línea el Anuario emprende una nueva actividad con su presencia con un stand propio (Hall C2, Stand 515, Gang E) en última edición de la feria Inhorgenta, del 22 al 25 de febrero.Hemos tenido la oportunidad de presentar en directo nuestro libro en una de las plataformas comerciales más interesantes del mundo en cuanto a joyería contemporánea se refiere, dado que el pabellón C2 de Inhorgenta Munich es un referente de la expresión más creativa del sector.

The CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY YEARBOOK has been always defined as a project open to all kind of initiatives aimed at promoting the contem-porary jewellery and its creators. There are no boundaries or limits for creative language, as there are no boundaries or limits to the jewel thanks to a committed collective excited to continue growing. We will meet again in 2014!

Mientras esté viajando a los distintos continentes, sus participantes volverán a inspirarse, estudiar y crear las formas más innova-doras de expresión que se pueden dar en la joyería.
