Amid growing uncertainties in the energy sector in Asia, the World Energy Council will be hosting closed talks with senior energy leaders and government ministers at its World Energy Leaders’ Summit (WELS), taking place on 17-18 June 2015 in Manila, Philippines. The summit will be co-hosted with the
Asian Development Bank (ADB). Discussions will address the new dynamics of LNG markets, next steps towards regional integration, develop-ments in smart innovation, financing resilient energy infrastructure, as well as the relevant policy implications.
Held as part of the Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF), the World Energy Leaders’ Summit will bring together energy leaders from across the globe , including up to 15 energy Ministers. Confirmations so far include CEOs and heads of energy companies from France, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singa-pore, South Africa, Switzerland, UAE, UK and the USA.
Speaking ahead of the Summit, Christoph Frei, Secretary General of the
World Energy Council, said: “We are pleased to work with the Philippine Government and the Asian Develop-ment Bank in bringing together an influential group of energy leaders to discuss the future of the energy sector in the region and beyond. Asia is the world’s centre of gravity for growth in energy demand and we look forward to the dialogue on smart innovation and the further expanding role of LNG in the region. Within the midst of energy price volatility and with climate framework uncertainty remaining at the top of the global energy agenda, it is also a critical time for dialogue on the Energy Trilemma and the role of regional integration.”
