MESSAGE TOTHE COMMUNITY

–MICHAEL TARDIFF, BOARD CHAIR

On behalf of United Way’s Board of Directors, I sincerely thank everyone who donated time, money and resources to United Way in 2016. Your continued support of this remarkable community allowed United Way to fund 49 important programs throughout Kennebec Valley. Your efforts are greatly appreciated, and the effects of your generosity are beyond measure.

My time as Board chair has been exciting and rewarding. I collaborated with some hard-working people, especially the dynamic Fossett family,

who chaired our campaign and widely shared our message of “Planting seeds for a stronger community.” This theme perfectly embodies the work that United Way does every day – the success that United Way could not achieve without your help. Together, we are all planting seeds to impact the lives of more than 20,000 people annually. Whether it’s our donors spreading United Way’s message to their friends or our partner agencies working toward a common purpose, just look around the Kennebec Valley region and you will see that the seeds planted by United Way truly help our community grow.

MESSAGE FROMOUR TREASURERThe United Way of Kennebec Valley’s fiscal year drew to a close on June 30, and I am pleased to report that the UWKV has once again received an unmodified opinion from the Certified Public Accountants at Gibson LeClair, LLC for the audit of our 2015 financial statements. As Treasurer, I have been very impressed with the quality of work of the United Way staff and the small group of highly skilled and dedicated professionals who make up the Finance Committee. During this past year we have worked together to implement a series of new policies, consolidate operating accounts and complete the approval of the administrative budget in an effort to ensure that our financial controls and operations put us in the best position to steward each donor dollar in a way that helps strengthen our community. I want to personally thank everyone for their hard work and dedication in 2016 and look forward to another successful year!

“I am pleased to report that the UWKV has once again received an unqualified

opinion from the Certified Public Accountants at

Day of Caring demonstrates that volunteering truly brings out the best in all of us. Students, local business sponsors and the United Way all work together to

lend a helping hand. We are proud of our local students and the community spirit they demonstrate through the Day of Caring program.

The United Way partners with 18 local schools and many area businesses to sponsor Day of Caring student events. This annual event matches student

volunteer groups with work projects at local sites in Southern Kennebec Valley. Students take pride in giving their time and talents to important projects in order

to improve our communities.

GIVE. ADVOCATE. VOLUNTEER.
