LOCAL PEOPLE HELPED:
35,902
This quote from Helen Keller captures the essence of our approach to improving people’slives here in Androscoggin County. We believe that a Community Impact model is themost effective way to mobilize resources from across our community to identify problemsand to create solutions for the problems. No single organization has the resources, knowledge or skills to “fix” the many challenges our neighbors are facing on a daily basis.
The first step in bringing about positive change is to truly understand what the problem is– what are the roadblocks that get in the way of people trying to finish their education sothey can get a job that pays a living wage; what keeps people from finding and affordingquality early child education and care; how can people find transportation to a doctor’sappointment or to a job interview?
United Way of Androscoggin County is uniquely situated to lead this Community Impactapproach – we work across the community and connect with a wide array of not-for-profitorganizations, government organizations, small businesses and industry, educationalinstitutions, faith based groups, interested individuals and more. Our work is not justabout United Way, it is truly about the community; about bringing traditional andnon-traditional resources to the same table to accomplish what none of us can do alone.
All of this work would not be possible without you! Thank you to all who supported UnitedWay in 2016. We greatly value your time, talent and financial contributions that builda stronger Androscoggin County!
