Respect Responsibility

Resourcefulness

Dear CMS Community,

Every time I have occasion to address our community it seems my first thoughts are of gratitude and humility. This occasion is no different. Our 13-14 school year was filled with joy and accomplishment. Dedicated staff, supportive parents, and a school full of happy children made for another delightful year. We sent four people to Montessori teacher training, and opened a second Toddler Class for the first time in the school’s history.

The Middle School Program started off its first year in its new building with great success. Our goal to have several of the micro-businesses up and running was met. District 30, specifically Maple School, welcomed our 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to join their athletic teams and participate in their after school clubs helping our students to integrate into the wider community. And our first three 8th grade students, Class of 2014, graduated and transitioned to high school.

We remain committed to the development of character, because we understand it to be the single most influential and most powerful aspect that any person has to affect change and create a life of his or her choosing. We have a faculty and staff who do not lose focus: it is character which matters most. And most importantly we have a community of families who share that commitment.

Wendy Calise Head of School

Dear CMS Community,

As one of the original Countryside board members, I vividly recall our humble beginnings in the early days when we rented space in the basement of a Glenview church. We sure have come a long way. My early board colleagues and I look back and take great pride in the growth of the school and the acquisition of our own facilities. The expansion decision to embark on the middle school and its magnificent new facility far surpassed what was contemplated in those formative days. The mission of Countryside remains as relevant as ever. I look forward to watching CMS continue to grow fully into its expanded space.

The Class of 2014

In July and August of 2014 educators from Canada, Russia, England, Nigeria, Austria, and New Zealand attend the annual Summer Institute hosted at Countryside.

Finance and Operations

Montessori Teachers Institute for Professional Studies

In 2009, at the encouragement of CMS school mentors, Head of School, Wendy Calise, founded a professional development organization to provide practical advice to other Montessori schools and teachers that addresses the concerns and challenges that they face as they offer families Montessori education in the 21st century.

Countryside Montessori now enjoys an international reputation. Hundreds of teachers have come from more than forty states and fifteen countries to learn from the CMS model. CMS teachers provide an online mentoring community accessed weekly by hundreds of teachers. They are often called upon to consult at other Montessori schools who are familiar with their work. Every summer more than 150 teachers come from all over the United States and other countries to attend a Summer Institute at CMS.
