Dear Jenny, I speak on behalf of myself and my family, to acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude the wonderful work delivered by yourself and your team. It was a long journey for my mother in acknowledging and realising she needed to research her family history and do a family tree, and collect information from St Josephs Orphanage In Cowper/Grafton for herself to truly grasp her identity. She was aware of where she come from and who her parents were, however was always lost with her cultural Identity as she had not been provided with the teachings or knowing in her growing up years. My mum was diagnosed with Cancer in 2009. In April 2010 the oncologist informed my mother she was now terminally ill. The Koorie Heritage Trust were able to locate mums files from the sisters of Mercy In Grafton, assist me with the Bunjulung language and websites, access great grandparents war files. Koorie Heritage phoned regularly to check in with the family. I will never forget … you and your team had worked around the clock to collect all the information and family tree as we had requested for both mum and myself. I was so impressed because all the information had to be collected from N.S.W and this can be dif-ficult to gain information from Victoria. Mum was in hospital at the time and was so excited as when her family and friends were arriving to visit her this became the focal point of discussion, and she wanted to show people her information with pride. My mum sadly went to her “DREAMING” 4th November 2010, however you and your team gave her her cultural identity, and she accepted all that she’d previously swept under the carpet. I really would like to thank you as I seriously appreciated all the hard work, but the care and also the fact that you listened, not only did you listen but you actioned the work.
