Deakin University’s first Elders and Respected Persons Council

A significant milestone for Deakin University and the Institute of Koorie Education has been the appointment of the first Elders and Respected Persons Council. Since the Institute’s establishment in 1985 the University has maintained strong ties to Elders and Respected persons. The Council will be responsible for advising, assisting and guiding the University and Institute on Aboriginal and Tor-res Strait Islander initiatives, community issues and mak-ing recommendations on Aboriginal tradition and culture.
