TEACHER OBSERVATION

• Each observation type will be completed using a 1-4 rubric, producing an overall score between 1-4

• Observation types are combined using a weighted average, producing an overall Observation category score between 1-4.

• This overall Observation Category Score will be converted into an HEDI rating and entered into the Evaluation Matrix to determine the overall evaluation rating

• NO Artifacts, unless part of pre/post conference or other “natural” conversations.

• Lesson plans will be looked at during the Pre-observations

TEACHER OBSERVATION

• Teachers who receive a HEDI rating of Developing or Ineffective for the announced observation may request a walk-through

– within five (5) school days after post-observation, contact your administrator, send your administrator an E-mail, to do a walk-through

- within five (5) days of the request, you and your administrator shall meet to schedule the walk-through to be conducted

- within five (5) days of the walkthrough the building administrator and teacher will again meet to discuss the observable performance indicators observed during the walkthrough

• DWM= District-Wide Measure is the weighted average of percentage of students “passing” the 4TH GRADE SCIENCE TEST adjusted for the allowable safety nets for students with disabilities to the extent allowable by SED regulations.

• Teachers with courses ending in a Regents exam, or a Grade 8 State Science assessment, will have a measure based on their individual students’ results - depending upon their teaching schedules/ class rosters on BEDS day. This may include a combination of Regents exams, and DWM.

• If your course ends in a State test for which there is a State-provided growth model and at least 50 percent of your students are covered under the State-provided growth measure, you will have a State-provided growth score

Student Performance Category

• For a State Provided Growth Score only, a student must meet the minimum enrollment duration rule of 60 percent in order to be included in the teacher’s growth score

– For example, a student who was enrolled with the teacher for 80 percent of a course and attended 90 percent of the time he/she was enrolled would be weighted 0.8 X 0.9 or 0.72.

– Attendance is important

• If you receive a “Developing” or “Ineffective” rating overall in June, you will be placed on a Teacher Improvement Plan (TIP)

• Teacher Improvement Plan (TIP) must be in place by October 1

– Length of time will be discussed with your administrator

• If you are rated Ineffective for three(3) consecutive years, the district is mandated to file 3020-a charges against you

• Read the appeals agreement in the MOA

Continuing Teacher and Leader Education – (CTLE)

• Starting July 1, 2016 – During the month of your birthday

• Who must register?

– Permanently or Professionally certified teachers

– Educational Leaders

– Level III Teaching Assistants

• Registration is done on the State Education Department’s TEACH system

Continuing Teacher and Leader Education Requirements

• You may register now before your birthday

• You will have to re-register every five (5) years during your birthday month

• Must complete 100 hours of CTLE during each 5 year registration period

100 HOUR CONTINUING TEACHER AND LEADER EDUCATION (CTLE) REQUIREMENT

• TESOL Teachers or bilingual extension -a min. 50% of required CTLE hours in language acquisition aligned with the core content area of instruction taught, including a focus on best practices for co-teaching strategies,

100 HOUR CONTINUING TEACHER AND LEADER EDUCATION (CTLE) REQUIREMENT

• All other certificate holders-minimum 15% of required CTLE hours shall be dedicated to language acquisition addressing the needs of ELLs, including a focus on best practices for co-teaching strategies, and integrating language and content instruction for such ELL

What if………you hold a permanent certification-

you do not need to complete 100 CTLE hours. However, if you have multiple certifications and one of them is a professional certification then you must complete 100 hours, even if you are not working under that certification.

…you have multiple professional certificates-

the 100 CTLE hours that you complete during the five year registration period will be sufficient to fulfill the requirement for all of your professional certificates.

ACCEPTABLE CTLE COURSES AND ACTIVITIES

• Acceptable CTLE must be taken through a sponsor approved by State Ed.

• It is imperative that you check in advance with the content provider in order to ensure that they are an approved sponsor and that the activity/course being offered is eligible for CTLE credit.

• Courses earning credit for the ELL’s requirement are marked as such

• For credit-bearing university or college courses, each semester-hour of credit equals 15 clock hours of CTLE credit

• For all other Continuing Ed courses, one CTLE credit hour = 60 minutes of instruction/education

The certificate holder shall maintain a record of completed CTLE, which shall

include:

• the title of the program

• the total number of hours completed

• the number of hours completed in language acquisition addressing the

need of English language learners

• the sponsor's name and any identifying number

• attendance verification

• the date and location of the program
