A LITTLE LAUGH …

Father Kerry was invited to attend a house party. Naturally he was properly dressed and wearing his priest’s collar. A little boy kept staring at him the entire evening. Finally, Father Kerry asked the boy what he was staring at. The little boy pointed to Father Kerry’s neck and when Father finally realized what the boy was pointing at, he asked the boy, “Do you know why I am wearing that?” The boy nodded his head ‘yes’ and replied, “It kills fleas and ticks for up to three months.”

Life is 10% what you make it and 90% how you take it.

== Fr. Kerry’s Korner ==

Thursday the Church celebrates all the saints:

canonized or beatified, and the multitude of those

who are in heaven enjoying the beatific vision that

are only known to God. During the early centuries

the Saints venerated by the Church were all martyrs.

Later, the Popes set November 1 as the day for

commemorating all the Saints.

The Solemnity, a holy day of obligation, reminds

us of what the Fathers of Vatican Council II called

the universal call to holiness. They said, "we must

follow in His footsteps and conform [our]selves to

His image seeking the will of the Father in all things.

[We] must devote [our]selves with all [our] being to

the glory of God and the service of [our] neighbor. In

this way, the holiness of the People of God will grow

into an abundant harvest of good, as is admirably

shown by the life of so many saints in Church

history" (Lumen Gentium, 40).

Please look at the mass schedule for Wednesday

and Thursday. On that day you may want to relate to

others the patron saint you chose for Confirmation.

We are surrounded by this great cloud of witnesses. Peace, Fr. Kerry

Diocese of Rapid City 2017 Men’s Retreat

St. Joseph: The Quiet Man of the Gospel November 10-12 ~ Terra Sancta

Retreat Center, Rapid City A few years ago, Pope Francis reflected on how the Scriptures seldom speak of Saint Joseph, but when they do, we often find him resting, as an angel reveals God’s will to him in his dreams. Joseph’s rest revealed God’s will to him. In this moment of rest in the Lord, as we

pause from our many daily obligations and activities, God is also speaking to us. The Men’s Retreat is an opportunity to pause and reflect on what the Lord is saying to us, to hear and accept God’s call, to make a home for Jesus. For this we must be able to rest in the Lord, so that we may rise with Jesus and Mary, and be a prophetic voice to our families and the community around us. This year our retreat will be facilitated by Fr. Kerry Prendiville, pastor of St. Therese the Little Flower Church in Rapid City. Trained in spiritual direction with the Institute of Priestly Formation, Fr. Kerry’s gentle pastoral guidance is truly modeled after the “Quiet Man of the Gospel.” He has been a priest of the Diocese of Rapid City for 34 years, serving throughout the diocese and has given directed retreats to religious women and led days of recollection for groups.

Accommodations for the retreat are: Monastic Room-$ 135 * Family Style Room: Single Occupancy-$220/Double Occupancy-$150 * No Lodging, Meals only $85 Register on line at www.terrasancta.org or for information on the retreat contact Amy Julian at 605-716-5214 or [email protected]

There is no cost for this trip, but on-line registration is required. Deadline to register is November 3. For more information or to register,

ONE MORE LITTLE LAUGH…

Three men are sitting (wrapped in towels) in the Sauna. Suddenly there is a Beeping sound. Tim presses his forearm and the Beeping stops. The others look at him questioningly. "That's my Pager," he says. "I have a microchip under the skin of my arm." A few minutes later a Phone rings. Max lifts his palm to his ear. When he finishes he explains: "That's my mobile phone. I have a microchip in my hand." Dave, feeling decidedly low-tech, steps out of the Sauna. In a few minutes, he returns with a piece of toilet paper emerging from behind. The others raise their eyebrows. Invoking the best poker-face he can muster, he explains: "I'm getting a Fax".

If the Holy Spirit is calling you to serve,

Hope For New Life (HFNL) Ministry 11

th Annual Christmas Jail Program One of our

ministry’s traditional events presented each year is the Christmas Program for the inmates of Pennington County Jail. This year marks our 11th endeavor to

bring the joy and blessings of the Christmas holiday to the inmates. Our program includes the singing of carols with guitar and flute accompaniment and

the distribution of over 600 bags of holiday candies and Holy cards to the inmates we entertain. Because our regular weekly jail groups average about 45-50 men and women (6-7 percent of the jail population of 650 people), the Christmas Program gives us a wonderful opportunity to reach out to many

more inmates in several different cell blocks. This year’s Christmas Program will take place on Wednesday December 20. To make this a truly enjoyable

event for the inmates, we ask you to consider donations of puzzles (especially those with a Christian theme), Christmas cards, and paperback books (themes: action, Westerns, historical). Donation boxes are available at the HFNL Display Shelves in the Cathedral, Blessed Sacrament, and St. Therese. We remind you that inmate prayer requests are collected in binders which are also available for

your reflection at our Display Shelves. Perhaps you can add the inmates’ prayers to your daily devotions as we approach the Christmas season. To learn more about our jail ministry please contact Bill Gradoville (341-2721). You are always welcome to attend our monthly HFNL meetings every 3rd Monday of the

month at Catholic Social Services at 6:30 pm.

Christmas Decoration Recycling!! Do you have some gently-used Christmas decorations that need a new home? If so, Church Response would love to have them for our Christmas Decoration

Recycling project. Many of our clients have very few, if any, holiday decorations, and we would like to pass along

your donated items to these families to make their Christmas a bit more festive! If we receive enough decorations we would also like to sell them to the general public every December at reasonable prices and donate the money to Church Response. Cleaning out your Christmas storage boxes will result in a cheerier holiday for many Rapid City families and also provide additional income to Church Response – everybody wins! Please bring your donations to your church, or the Church Response office at 30 Main St. Call (342-5360) for more information. Thank you!
