If you have ever wanted to know what it was like to homestead in Mon-tana, a modest, 119-year-old cabin north of Ramsay will give you an au-thentic experience.
Located in the Flint Creek Ranch subdivision, 3144 Iris Ridge Road is the real deal.
Built in 1900, the cabin was once home to a man who had homesteaded in the area, said Loren Baker, owner of Whisper Creek Realty and listing agent, adding that the man road an hour by horseback each day to work in the mines of Butte.
3144 Iris Ridge Road is rustic — really rustic.
With an antique claw foot tub, cement flooring with a distressed finish, authentic log-cabin walls and a gas stove just like grandma used to use, the two-bedroom, two-bath-room cabin isn’t for the faint of heart. However, the homeowners have put a lot of work into the property, adding tasteful details that don’t take away from the cabin’s charm.
“She fixed it up and it’s pretty cool,” said Baker, of Robin Norton, who cur-rently owns the home with her hus-band Michael.
The kitchen, for instance, pairs an antique porcelain sink with a small breakfast bar made from a single piece of timber with a glossy finish, keeping up with contemporary tastes. The fur-nishings and décor, meanwhile, have been thoughtfully curated, adding just the right amount of charm and whimsy without being overly precious.
With a listing price of $254,000, the 1,152-square-foot cabin sits on 21 acres, has a new addition and comes fully furnished.
Inside the family room, one can get cozy with a large, wood-burning stove, while simple yet inviting upholstery is similar to the midcentury modern

style, adding to the cabin’s warm, rustic vibe. Black-and-white photographs of John Wayne, along with a wall hanging com-posed of rope and a horse bridle, honor the area’s ranching history.
Throughout the grounds, one can see remnants of the old homestead, including the prop-erty’s original barn and a refur-bished windmill. Similarly, one can get up close and personal with how the West was won with the property’s historical outhouse.
Inside, the master suite is located in the cabin’s new ad-dition and offers a four-poster bed and high ceilings, while the second bedroom is dressed up as a whimsical child’s room. The main bathroom boasts an an-tique sink and tub, and the cabin comes equipped with a washer and dryer. Other modern conve-niences include flat-screen TVs in the master bedroom and family room.
With an outdoor seating area overlooking a mountainous landscape and the addition of a quaint and charming guest house, the historical property makes an ideal spot for a family
cabin, hunting lodge or a vacation home, but can also be used as a full-time residence.
Bow and black-powder hunt-ing are allowed in the area with additional recreational activities accessible nearby.
Hunting, skiing, hiking, fish-ing, four-wheeling and snow-mobiling opportunities are all within a 30-minute drive from the property, while Old Works Golf Course in Anaconda, Dis-covery Ski Area near Philipsburg,
Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, the Big Hole River and Georgetown Lake are all a comfortable drive away.
Sitting on 21-acres, the prop-erty has several gardens, a chicken coop and workshop. It is
suitable for keeping horses and provides views of four mountain ranges.
“It’s so Montana,” said Baker of the property.
“This is about as rustic as it gets.”
