Dear Mr. Menken,

I am writing you to let you know that I found Kurt Vonnegut's God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater. It's about time everybody else did, too.

I have been a Vonnegut fan ever since I first encountered his writing in High School. I've read everything he ever wrote. When he passed, we lost one of our greatest national treasures. I don't think I could pick a favorite novel, but Rosewater

would be up there: the only thing he ever wrote with a "happy" ending.

I teach Drama at a High School in a small town in Michigan just outside of Ann Arbor. I was looking for a musical and asked Samuel French to send me a copy of 7he Secret Life of Walter Mitty; they sent me Rosewater by mistake. I couldn't be­lieve it! It was like Fate handed me your script. I listened to the music and knew I had something special in my hands. How can I begin to describe how beautifully the songs evoke every moment within the story and every character's personal and collective struggle to be wanted, needed, and loved.

I proposed it to be our Spring Musical at the High School; I think you can guess how the Administration of a politically conservative School District felt about that ...

I feel like the luckiest person on the planet, and I feel like Ann Arbor's theater­goers are about to see something truly amazing.

I don't know why this show never made it to Broadway. I assume it was a victim of the recession of the late '70s, but the message ofVonnegut's book that was relevant in 1963, that was relevant when you and Mr. Ashman adapted it for the stage in 1979, is still relevant here in 2010.

We're performing in the new Arthur Miller Theatre at the University ofMichi­gan: an intimate performance space for this intimate chamber musical. I'm ap­proaching it like Our Town with minimal set (costumes, props, and lights doing all the heavy lifting) and Kilgore Trout as the Stage Manager.

We have a terrific cast that's in love with the show and excited to bring it to the stage; our audiences won't know what hit them!

The Cast KIM ANGOTTI (Diana Moon Glampers, other various characters) is thrilled to be involved in her first A2Cf produc­tion. Past roles for Kim include The Witch in Into the Woods, Alice Bean in Titanic the Musical, Maria in West Side Story, as well as various other roles in different theatre organizations. She toured as lead dancer in Broadway Branson's Production of Annie Get Your Gun, and understudied Miss America 1998, Kate Shindle, as The Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Tech­nicolor Dreamcoat. Kim is a home-based travel agent, and has 2 hysterically funny kids, jessica and Nicholas. Kim would like to thank her husband Drew for all of his love and support. (He is hysterical too ... )

MATTHEW ANTONINI (Mushari) is appearing in his first production with A2Cf and has had a great time. He is thankful to A2CT for the opportunity. He has performed in ed­ucational and community theatre elsewhere including Pirates of Penzance, Noises Off, Book of Days, Guys and Dolls, Kiss Me Kate, and Spinning Into Butter. Matthew also enjoys reading, cooking, cracking bad jokes, and playing with his cats.

KATHLEEN BEARDMORE (Dawn Leonard, Caroline Rosewater, et al) is glad Rob Roy proposed this quirky, dark, fun and touching play for A2CT and found her fit to play a "useless and unattractive" Rosewater County resident. Kathleen's recent shows with A2Cf include Nine (Stephanie Necrophorus), Not Waving; Lend Me a Tenor (Maria), Cactus Flower (Stephanie), and Full Monty (Vicki). To Bob she says:"I'm so happy we in no way resemble Caroline & Fred!"

ELLINGTON BERG (Jerome, Kid, Fireman, Sgt. Boyle et al) is so happy to be apart of the Rosewater cast Other stage appearances include A2CT's Bye Bye Birdie, The Producers, and How To Succeed. Ellington is also a junior at Ypsilanti High School, a member of the Chamber Singers and Concert Choir. You might catch him soon in YHS's upcoming production of Hairspray. Enjoy the show!

BRODIE H. BROCKIE (Eliot Rosewater) is excited to be returning to A2Cf, having previously appeared as Caliban in The Tempest, Diamond Louie in The Front Page, and Tyler Ray­burn in Light up the Sky. Other local credits include Amos Hart in Chicago with the Saline Area Players, Gaston in Beauty & The Beast, and Alfred P. Doolittle in My Fair Lady - both with Chelsea Area Players. Brodie would like to thank Bob and Kath­leen for suggesting that he audition; and his wife Christa, who is celebrating a birthday on opening night, for all her support.

SANDERS HAMSON (McAllister) has appeared in three A2CT productions: Home Again Jiggity Jig; The Sleepwalker, and A Night in the Theater. Formerly a mid-level corporate menial, he now, pursues acting and voice over work. He wishes to thank Marie! for her support

ANDREW HOAG (Delbert Peach, et a!) though usually a stage manager these days, decided to stick his foot back into the performing pool when he saw his favorite novel by a favorite author on this season's schedule. He has been active at A2Cf for over 17 years now, since '93's Biloxi Blues. He was last on stage in june, staring blankly ahead as the lobotomized Ruckly in Redbud's One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest. THOM jOHNSON (TJ)(Kilgore Trout) has been involved with A2Cf for over 25 years. He has been an actor, director, stage manager, lighting designer, board member and president. He directed last season's Picasso at the Lapin Agile but last ap­peared as an actor on the Civic main stage as George Hay in Moon Over Buffalo, and as Rick in the Studio Series Bigfoot Stole My Wife. He is happy (and surprised) to be acting in a mu­sical since his last appearance was the Nazi butler in The Sound of Music in 1999. Outside the theatre TJ works at The U of M, plays softball and bar trivia and is currently working with his Wii trainer Lars. Special thanks to )AC, Z&P and the boy for­merly known as "The Tani<.

EDMOND REYNOLDS (Senator Lister Ames Rosewater) is delighted to be performing again with A2CT. He directed Nine, Kiss Me Kate, Sweet Charity and The Best Little Whore­house in Texas for A2Cf. Past acting credits with A2CT include ... Forum (Miles Gloriosus), How to Succeed. .. (Wally Warnper), Our Town (Doc Gibbs), The Nerd (Ticky) and Guys & Dolls (Big jule). Ed has also appeared at The Croswell Opera House, in Adrian, Michigan, in The Full Monty (Harold Nichols) and She Loves Me (Mr. Maraczek). His two favorite roles have been with the Dexter Community Players though: Caldwell B Cladwell in Urinetown and judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd. Enjoy the show!

ADELE ROY (Mary Moody,et al; Graphic Design) is honored to have worked with such a enjoyable group of people on this amazing project. This is her first A2CT on-stage performance and she truly appreciated the acceptance and camaraderie offered by all of the experienced veterans around her. Many thanks to Rob (heart!), to Griffin and Lucie for encouraging her to "Go for it, Mom!'; and to julia, who always steps in to help in numerous ways when we have our hands full.

BOB SKON (Fred, et al, sound) has been a member of A2CT for 9 seasons working mainly off stage designing sound and serving on committees, but an occasional bout with the acting bug lures him on stage once in a while. Bob is a singer I guitarist and can be seen with The Bob Skon Trio (www.bobskon.com). He thanks this most talented cast and crew, and is most excited to be sharing the stage with the love of his life, Kathleen. Were nothing like Caroline and Fred ... really!

MATTHEW STEWARD (Charley Warmergran, Arthur Garvey Ulm, Fireman Ray and then some) is very pleased to be

appearing in his second musical production for A2CT. His past credits include Gangster 2 in Kiss Me Kate, Sanchez in Cactus Flower, the Dr. in Bigfoot Stole My Wife, pit orchestra for Chi­cago and Fiddler on the Roof, drums and crooning for various Steppin' Out benefits and the producer hat for The Tempest and Bat Bay, the Musical. HEATHER WING (Sylvia Rosewater) is humbled to have the opportunity to play such a wonderfully quirky character in an equally wonderfully quirky musical, and to share the stage with a terrifically talented cast, to boot She loves musi­cal theater, A2CT, and attention, so this seemed like a perfect marriage. Past A2CT credits include Nine. Lend Me a Tenor, The Music Man, and Cactus Flower. The Production Staff TIFF CRUTCHFIELD (Lighting Designer) has lit more than 15 A2CT productions overall but this is only his second outing at the Arthur Miller Theatre where he previously co­designed A Few Good Men in 2008. More recent lighting credits include last year's production of Nine at Lydia Mendelssohn as well as many recent shows at the Croswell Opera House in Adrian. In addition to lighting, he occasionally serves as pro­ducer-most recentlv for A2CT's How To Succeed ... last June.

NAKI SUNG KRIPFGANS (Music Director) is a concert pianist/organist, teacher, and a jazz musician. She is the organ­ist at the First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor. Though her education and professional output are mainly in classical music, she enjoys playing jazz and working with musical the­atre singers. Her upcoming performance engagements are an Organ Symposium at Hill Auditorium in February, 2011, and Poulenc's Organ Concerto with Michigan Sifonietta in March, 2011 , and an organ solo concert in an organ festival, Orgues sans frontieres in Germany in summer 2011.

JOHN LUTHER (Musical Staging) has directed and! or cho­reographed productions of A Chorus Line, A Little Night Mu­sic, Cabaret, Chicago, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Miss Saigon, The Rocky Horror Show, Urinetown: the Musical and Zombies from the Beyond. CASSIE MANN (Co-producer, props) is happy to be co­producing Rosewater, now one of her favorite musicals ever. Most often Cassie is either acting-with A2CT and Redbud Productions-or directing (most recently A2CT's Lend Me a Tenor and Not Waving ... ). By day she is the program director for A2CT. JEREMY MERKLINGER (Hairstylist- Encore Studio) has been working in salons around Ann Arbor for over 10 years. In April he will have been at Encore Studio in the Kerrytown Shops for 6 years. He has worked with A2CI on many shows over the years including: Into the Woods, Follies, Stage Door, Kiss Me Kate, Nine, How to Succeed in Business Without Re­ally Trying and Bye Bye Birdie. Each time he has done hair for A2CI working with the cast in the hair and make-up room has been a complete blast and this time was no exception! He thinks that A2CI rocks!

MARTHA MONTOYE (co-producer, props) Martha has been an active member of the A2CI for almost 23 years. She has done pretty much everything except appear on stage in an acting capacity. She would like to thank Cassie for tricking her into becoming so involved with such a great organization. Martha also owns and runs Auntie M's Pet Sitting and Pet Daycare here in Ann Arbor.

SUZI PETERSON (Stage Manager) is delighted to be back­stage again ... as opposed to in the lobby! She last was not seen (backstage) on A2CI's production of My Trip to Bountiful. In her spare time, Suzi is Managing Director of A2CI, one of the finest member-driven (yes, become a member!) community theatres ever. LISA POWELL (Costumes) loves creating costumes and is excited to be working with A2CI for the first tiroe. While not working in the theatre Usa teaches about dress at EMU and operates the River Raisin Gallery in Tecumseh, MI.

ROB ROY (Director) is the Director of Drama at Pinckney Community HighSchool. He holds advanced performance degrees from Wayne State and Southern Methodist Universi­ties. He has most recently appeared with A2CT as Mr. Biggely in How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and as a gangster in Kiss Me Kate. He is a comic book fan that is ob­sessed with wmbies.
