This is our new book for this term.

Like in class we will read part of the book first and work towards creating a piece ofwriting.

Monday 22nd June 2020WALT: predict a story

This week we will be starting a new book ‘Angus Rides the Goods Train’. Today you will be predicting what you think will happen in the story and at the end of the week you will develop the beginning to a story.

In your Home Learning exercise book write todays date and the WALT at the top of this slide.

Remember the school presentation expectations. The date should be on the right hand side, with the WALT on the left next to the margin, underlined with a straight line.

In your books draw a mind map with conjunction in the middle.

Around it write down as many conjunctions that you can think of in 2 minutes.

Once you’ve written down as many as you can think of, look on the next slide for a range of conjunctions.

Conjunctions are words which join phrases, clauses or words.

A goods train transports things rather than people. For example a goods train might

carry merchandise such as food or clothes.

Over the next three days you are going to develop the beginning of a story.Take your time with your writing, think about how in class we take more than one day to do prep. Do the first paragraph today, the second paragraph tomorrow and the last paragraph on Friday.

If you would like to write your sentence on a scrap piece of paper before writing it into your book, like prep, to make sure it makes sense and is the best it can be then you can.

Read through the WAGOLL first, and then like we do in class use the questions and sentences on the slide after the WAGOLL and your descriptive language from yesterday to help you.

The WAGOLL is to help you with ideas and structure, but try not to copy it, you can magpie ideas but make it your own.

You do writing like this in class, I know you can do it at home too, take your time and try your best!

WAGOLL - Paragraph 1

Overcome with confusion, Angus was awoken by an echo of clunking and chinking filling his ears. Opening his eyes with a start, Angus sat up in his bed, feeling overwhelmed by what he saw. Thinking he was dreaming, Angus roughly rubbed his eyes and stared intently at an industrial steam train racing towards him. Hanging out of the circular windows was the cheerful looking driver waving his hands frantically to signal Angus to come aboard.

WAGOLL - Paragraph 2

Feeling strangely excited, Angus carefully climbed aboard the mysterious midnight vehicle, still with a pinch of apprehension. Being greeted by the driver, Angus could smell the sweet aroma of honey consequently making him notice the goods loaded onto the rear of the train. Water, milk and rice also trailed behind them as they set off with a whistle and a whoosh, while the steam began to chug out of the towering chimney.

Inquisitively peering out of the windows, the young boy stared in awe of the landscape around him, as the locomotive rapidly sped through the valleys. Passing through bustling cities and towns and delving into lush green forests, thick with trees, Angus couldn’t believe his eyes, while the wind was flowing through his golden hair. His heart was filled with happiness to be experiencing something so exciting and to be delivering these goods to somewhere that must be important.
