UP TO BE PART OF THE FUN!!! Sign up sheets are outside the sanctuary. Please consider being a part of this fun summer event that shows off our new
facility and Atonement hospitality.
ROADIES NEEDED!
We are in need of roadies to set up some
chairs, sound system, and the booth tents
and tables. Helpers are also needed to tear
down after the event that evening. We’ll
start the set up Saturday, June 14, by 2PM
before the concert.
Thanks for being a roadie!
HEAVEN AT SEVEN CONCERT! CELEBRATE OUR 50TH ANNIVERSARY!
Atonement will be hosting this historic outdoor summer event
here in the Heights! Our neighborhood and Heights
community will be attending to see what we are all about. Invite your friends and neighbors to come and visit. This may be
their first Atonement experience and we want it to be
a great one! Saturday, June 14th, food and fun begin at 6PM
and the music starts at 7PM with our very own teen praise
band. Other guests will perform and Servant 28 will cap off the concert. The concert

Words on Worship SUMMER Edition!
ONE service at 9:15 through Labor Day!
Mark your calendars: June 14th – Heaven at Seven – Summer CONCERT at Atonement – 6:00 pm! July 6th – Heavenly Harp – service with Karin Gunderson, and afternoon concert. August 24th – celebrate Atonement’s 50 years by dressing as we would have in the 1960s – music, too!
This summer we will celebrate many events, and have amazing music to go with these events and liturgical days. Did you know there are special colors to go with these days? In case you never stopped to ask why our paraments changed color over the year, here is a brief explanation of the liturgical colors and when they are used:
BLUE: Blue is associated with Advent, suggesting hope.
WHITE: White, calling to mind the purity of the newborn Christ, and to our light and joy in him. Christmas, Epiphany of our Lord, Baptism of our Lord, Transfiguration of our Lord, Maundy Thursday, Sundays of Easter, Christ the King
GOLD: Gold suggests our joy in the Resurrection. Vigil of Easter, Easter
SCARLET: Scarlet is the preferred color of Holy Week, as it suggests the deep color of blood. Sunday of the Passion, Monday-Wednesday of Holy Week
GREEN: Green is used for its symbolism of our growth in Christ. Green is used, to indicate our growth in faith as we follow the teachings and ministry of Christ. Sundays after Epiphany, Sundays after Pentecost
RED: Red as the color of fire is used on this day when we remember the tongues of fire descended on the crowd in Jerusalem. Day of Pentecost
PURPLE: Purple is typically associated with Lent, suggesting repentance and solemnity.
BLACK: Black is the preferred color for Ash Wednesday, since it is the color of the ashes to which we will all return.
Other changes for this summer? Seasons of MUSIC, to being with SPIRITUALS!! Do you know the history of spirituals? Did you know many originated in Africa and were brought to America with the accompanying dances and rhythms, but many were sung as code about the Underground Railroad?! “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” is one such spiritual – sung about Ripley, a station on the Ohio River which was difficult to cross – so when fugitives arrived, they had to wait for help to cross. Thus the lyrics, “I looked over Jordan and what did I see/ Coming for to carry me home/ A band of angels coming after me”.
Our summer worship will begin with Spirituals, and then change to the Country Gospel liturgy in July. Come
join us – we have something for everyone!! See you at 9:15!
