HALFEN HIT INSULATED CONNECTIONS

Quality features:• First ICC Approved Structural

Thermal Break • Ideal solution to reduce thermal

bridging resulting in long term energy savings

• Reduces the risk of mold growth• Reduces cracking due to thermal

expansion minimizing maintenance costs and increasing overall lifetime of the structure

• Versatile product range to accom-modate a variety of structural configurations

• Provides continuous insulation per IECC, ASHRAE 90.1 and NECB

Increasing energy costs and the pur-suit of healthier and environmentally friendlier living spaces have led to more efficiently insulated structures. However, typical balcony construction penetrates the insulation and creates a thermal bridge, reducing the overall energy efficiency. Temperature reduc-tion on the internal surfaces creates condensation, which results in mold growth. The HALFEN HIT Insulated Connection is engineered to create a thermal break and to minimize the flow of thermal energy through the structure.

HALFEN HIT Insulated Connections also allow for differential movement between the connected components. This minimizes cracking at the connec-tion caused by thermal expansion and contraction of the concrete. This pre-vents costly maintenance in the future and increases the overall lifetime of the structural component.

Simple to install, HIT Insulated Connec-tions are designed to minimize thermal bridging at all concrete members that cross the insulation layer of the building such as balconies, cantilever roofs, and fin walls. HALFEN HIT Insulated Connec-tions are available for various concrete thicknesses and can accommodate a wide variety of balcony configura-tions (e.g. cantilever, internal, corner, recessed, and supported).

HALFEN HSD Shear Dowel Systems are designed to distribute shear loads through construction joints. The shear dowels allow relative displacement, reducing internal stresses and thus eliminating cracking of the concrete.

HALFEN HSD Shear Dowels provide solutions for a variety of applications, loads, slab depths, and joint widths. Each connector is a two-part assembly comprising of a sleeve and a dowel component. The sleeve is nailed to the formwork ensuring subsequent alignment with the dowel and that the system works as intended. HALFEN Shear Dowels are manufactured from stainless steel to ensure a high degree of corrosion resistance with no require-ments for additional protection.

HALFEN HSD Shear Dowel Systems are ideal for use in expansion joint applications and provide a more efficient alternative to corbels. Eliminating the custom formwork and congested reinforcing associated with traditional concrete corbels reduces overall cost and construction time.

HALFEN HSD & HSD-VHALFEN HSD Shear Dowels are used in joints with relatively small loads. The HALFEN HSD-V Shear Dowel uses the same dowel as the HSD, but the cylindrical sleeve is contained within a rectangular box section to allow lateral movement in addition to longitudinal movement.

HALFEN HSD -ULTRA and HSD-ULTRA-VThe HALFEN HSD-ULTRA Shear Dowel is a two part, high capacity system. Additional steel plates around the dowel and associated sleeve engage more concrete to allow higher load resistance within the system. HALFEN HSD-ULTRA allows for longitudinal movement only, while the HALFEN HSD-ULTRA-V also permits movement perpendicular to the dowel.

HALFEN HSD-LD Lockable Dowelshave been designed for use intemporary movement joints, mostcommonly found in post-tensionedconcrete slabs. These dowels allowinitial shrinkage of the concrete to takeplace and are then locked in positionwith a mechanical plate and acontrolled amount of epoxy resin. When locked, the dowels continue to transfer shear, but prevent further movement from taking place.

The use of HALFEN HSD-LD LockableDowels can save a significant amount of time and material over otherconstruction methods. Concreteshrinkage has traditionally beenaccommodated by leaving gaps in the slabs called ‘pour strips’ or ‘closurestrips’. These strips are filled oncemovement has ceased; however, until they are filled the slabs must betemporarly supported, restricting siteaccess and delaying site progress.Gaps in the slab also create a triphazard for site workers. LockableDowels improve site access, minimizeformwork requirements, and acceleratethe rate of construction.

HALFEN HSD-LD LOCKABLE DOWEL SYSTEM

HALFEN HSD-LD Lockable dowelsare available for slab-to-slab as wellas slab-to-wall connections. Thenailing plates at the sleeves preventinaccurate installation of the product. This prevents unwanted tension, which often results in occurrence of cracking.

HALFEN HSD-LD Lockable Dowels are manufactured from stainless steel, providing corrosion protection and ensuring high level of performance throughout the lifetime of the product.
