This monthly magazine was founded in 1985, and was orientated around college rock music and featured some hip-hop.

It is sold in America but can be accessed on the internet.

As well as featuring music artists, the magazine often does reports on cities such as Texas, Glasgow and Scotland, that are said to have unfound culture.

•The magazine has changed hands 3 times and has now formed their own group, Spin Media.

Vibe magazine featured predominantly hip-hop and R&B artists.

The target audience was young people interested in hip-hop culture.

Vibe made a constant effort to feature people of all ethnicities.

The adverts in the magazine were linked to hip-hop culture, for example clothing:

Sean Coombs’ clothing line, Sean John

Nelly’s clothing line, Apple Bottoms

Jay Z’s Clothing line, Rocawear

It was founded by the producer Quincy Jones, a legendary music producer who has worked with the likes of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

•The front cover layout of spin almost always has a gimmick and a background. This gives the cover character.

•The only consistent font is the masthead apart from that, every issue has a different font on the cover. Again that gives the magazine a playful character and shows versatility and enforces the fact that it can appeal to a wide target audience.

•There is always quite a bit of writing on the front cover compared to Vibe.

•The text on the front cover is all in capitals and very bold, just like the mast head. This is very eye catching and gives the magazine an edgy personality.

•The layout is simple and only ever has two or three complementing colours on the cover at one time. This makes it look colour coordinated and sophisticated.

•Vibe always has innovative camera angles in its photos.
