In: Studies in Conservation, 21(1976), 161-170----An extensive sampling has been carried out of corrosion products and encrustations on the surface of a gilded horse of St Mark's Basilica in Venice. XRD and chemical analyses have allowed identification of typical compounds, proposal of mechanism of deterioration and define some conservation problems of the statues in outdoor exposure.
